This phone is appealing because even when it's big, it's not that big, perfect for reading and drawing. Then again, it's chunkiness and camera do make me think that I'd need to handle it before deciding to purchase..

    • @reddrogue
      @reddrogue 2 года назад +9

      @sbcontt YT I'm curious where you get your info from? Have you ever used an Android tablet? I've had a Samsung galaxy tab for years, and it carried me through a period of months when my PC had conked out, and it was pretty much like having a windows laptop. Ipads couldn't even be paired with a Bluetooth mouse just a short while ago, (as recently as 2020 from what I've read), whereas Android has had that functionality right out of the gate since it came on the market, for both phones and tablets. This functionality alone made a huge difference in what could be done with an Android tab productivity-wise compared to an Apple. I'm not saying ipads aren't useful, just wondering what you're basing your analysis on when you say Android is not good for productivity?
      Regarding showing off money, please point me in the direction of an affordable Apple product for which there are not 15+ more affordable Android devices. Jus sayin...

    • @vullord666
      @vullord666 2 года назад +5

      @sbcontt YT I've gotten 0 use out of my iPad until I finally switched to a 2 in 1 laptop that could actually accomplish something. The problem with the iPad is that it tries to be a 2 in 1 PC, but runs on an OS that is somehow less functional than IOS. (what was even the point of Apple rebranding it if they do the same things, but PadOS gets great functions later than IOS?) The tablet workspace is dead and arguably never existed to begin with. All android and apple tablets manage to be, are mobile phones with smaller screens. If you just need a limited function device able to perform basic tasks, a cheap tablet does the trick (like watch HBO Max or something), but when you actually start to do consistent mid range work, it's just frustratingly limited. The problem with Apple is that on top of being a limited mobile OS, they go a step further to limit you to their ecosystem so you can't even find solutions elsewhere (and they make it much harder for non apple devices to work with them). The other problem is the pricing. You can't convince me or anyone sane that an iPad Pro (earlier models) selling for 1000+ had as much functionality as a 2 in 1 PC at the same price. Except the iPad Pro comes with none of what's needed to remotely make it a two in one and everything costs an additional $100+ (magic keyboard; apple pencil)
      What's really sad is apple had a real opportunity to make iPad's actual 2 in 1 tablets and present an actual reason to buy one with the M1 chips. But nope. They knew they didn't need to bother because people only ever bought them for brand loyalty and name recognition to begin with.
      I'm just waiting for affordable foldable phones to finally kill that space entirely. And then for Microsoft to run full (or maybe with some limitations) windows on a foldable phone or Apple run Mac on one. Giving people streamlined mobile OS's as a limited functionality option and making tablets an actual 2 in 1 PC space.

      @leonfrancis3418 2 года назад +20

      There have been competitors in this market for quite some time.
      Samsung has remained "comfortable" since the Fold 2 because they've moved their folding devices out of the realm of, "That's cool, I'll try it next year when it doesn't seem like a tech demo," into actual usable mainstream product.
      It seems as though they will remain that way for the foreseeable future as other companies are still on their 1st or 2nd gen foldables while Samsung is prepping gen 4, and making money off of anyone who wants to enter the market by being the source for expensive folding displays and other parts.

    I think it's designed for productivity. Smaller than most when closed, larger than most when open and with a screen real-estate you really want when you're editing a document. It's not overly fast, it's good enough for video and will make standard phone tasks easier. If you already have a laptop or desktop and use your phone for basic tasks and communication it's probably one of the best options out there. If that's their market they are going to have to come down in price a lot.

    • @avieshek
      @avieshek 2 года назад +1

      Hardware wise, my only complain is that small battery of 4500mAh when there's Samsung M-series with 7000mAh battery if not 6000mAh already being a standard at least like the Asus ROG Phones - 70% of the battery drain is due to screens and foldables like this have bigger if not multiple screens with higher refresh rate & brightness and amalgamate that with Cellular Data like 5G, those battery sizes are surprising and a turn-off for foldables (and not just Oppo) that single handedly killed iPhone Mini-series for example.
      Batteries need to get bigger, not smaller irrespective of fast charging since it's a mobile device than a laptop.

Ill will definitely get one, just not yet.

  • @sumandark8600

    For a good aspect ratio, we need a phone with 2 folds (so that it folds in thirds not halves). This would mean a screen ratio of 16:9 (~1.78) in both folded and unfolded modes as sqrt 3 is roughly 15.6/9 (~1.73) That means that once you add in the slight extra length you get from the depth of the phone unfolding twice, your aspect ratio stays the same. Your 9 side slightly more than triples to around 28.5 and 28.5/9 is also 1.78 to 3sf
    Another benefit of this is that only 1 screen is needed due to how a 2 fold design would work (think all of 1 side if the letter Z) and so the total screen usage for the developer is the same as now, but the the result is a much larger screen. A 5" screen would become a 8.9" screen. That's both compact when needed and huge when you want it to be.
    For comparison, the Galaxy fold 3 goes from 6.2" to 7.6". The comparable dimensions would be something like 64×115mm and 200×115mm for the fictional phone vs 67.1×158.2mm and 128.1×158.2mm for the Galaxy fold 3.

      @GH0STST4RSCR34M That's something that can easily be worked on. There are many phones that have been made with a thickness of ~5mm. And the thinnest phone in the world is 4.75mm. Improved hinges would allow phones to fold more flush as well so you could easily make a 2 fold phone that's thinner than the Galaxy fold 3 by a good 2mm.
      Plus, smaller X,Y dimensions mean that you'd notice extra thickness less. Back when 4.7" screens were normal, phones were much thicker and fit into pockets a lot easier than they do nowadays. My proposed phone when folded would likely be around the size of an original iphone 3G with a case on it.

    • @sumandark8600

      @GH0STST4RSCR34M It's possible now, it's just not cheap. Though there are plenty of ideas that haven't been tried yet.
      There's no physical law that prevents it from happening, and I should know, I'm a physicist.
      The same is true for under screen cameras. They could work perfectly well 10 years ago, but in order to save costs, and because of a lack of imagination, the new first generation ones are very bad.

    Here's my piece on this : The only reason why Oppo nailed most of the foldable issues on their first try is because they have the likes of Samsung and other companies who have released their foldables to thank for that. Their "years of research" is more of learning from the competition's mistakes which is a good thing. It's always better to learn from other's mistakes. Having said that, if the reverse was true and Oppo was the first company to put forth a foldable phone in the market, they would've probably made the same mistakes and errors that Samsung has made today.

    The main reason samsung didn't go with the water drop fold design was because it wouldn't allow them to keep the water resistant rating they currently, and exclusively have....but as they're progressing, I wouldn't be surprised if samsung comes out with, not only a screen without a crease, but retain the water resistance....just not there yet.
    If the oppo was water resistant and bigger I'd probably switch. Time will tell

    • @dragonforcegaming7555

      that's a lie. That hinge design of Samsung doesn't contribute anything to IP rating, rather in real life, it makes inner display more prone to scratches from dust particles due to that gap in middle. Also, that Crease which is caused due to that kind of Hinge is the main reason for micro cracks on the inner display. Many fold users had to replace the inner display as it straight-up started breaking from the crease point.

    • @davids.3725
      @davids.3725 Год назад

      @@dragonforcegaming7555 actually its not a lie. But thanks for showing how ignorant you are. The fold 4 has an IPX8 rating, the phone can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. And if you watched any of their videos with their design team, you would be informed as to keeping the water drop fold design due to the water resistance was priority over a flat screen, they would have had to redesign the hinge to keep the water resistance as well as making it flat, which they have released info that they have done so with the upcoming fold 5.
      If there are any fold users who's screens are breaking, it's very minimal as it isn't widely discussed as an issue.

    One solution to the crease that I can only explain its absence as its price of RnD, is that you could possibly put something like a flat piece of something that wont bend that pushes itself into the back of the screen. That way when unfolded the centre is flat and such. Ofcourse there will be a crease, that'll be inevitable, but it'll make it useable, where whenever you touch it, it'll be less noticeable. Uses for this would be that Samsung could finally add an S-pen onto their fold, which works as an idea, a drawing phone, large screen and a pen that can still fit into your pocket.

    Was quite interested in this but I'm gonna stick with my Z Fold 3 for the time being. The market still has a long ways to go

    I can totally see how a foldable being a necessity. What would be amazing is IF ot was a foldable AND also take advantage of a usbc video output so you could hook up a docking station to give you a full blown desktop. But also have the desktop "experience" when unfolded. Just imo

    It's interesting to see how this foldable series of phones develope but as me I think it's not something the majority of people need. What I need it's a bigger phone such as the mate 20X , that's way more useful than being folding and unfolding your phone.

      Have you ever seen the Mi Max 3? Xiaomi stopped making Mi Max series phones after it but if you had seen it you will realize that is what foldables should aim for.
      I have a Mi Max 3. The phone has a 6.9 inch screen and viewing something on it is much much better than anything else. How much more screen you get when watching RUclips etc is amazing.
      The screen is so much bigger that even though it is a 60hz IPS from 2018 i still prefer watching content from it that from any of my more normal lets say smartphones.
      If the bezels were eliminated it could even be 7.0 inch-7.1screen but not a square one like this phone but one that you can utilize the full screen.
      Although the Mi Max 3 is usable and i even learned how to use it with one hand by using the one hand mode, i realize that many may find it too big to carry around for their taste.
      BUT if that phone could fold. Then voila! That will the most awesome foldable i can think. A phone with a 7.0 inch screen that is not square and can be fully utilized that folds in the middle like a Samsung flip phone.
      It will be amazing!

      The Mi Max 3 can't compare to Mate 20X please.

      @@SIPEROTH when you fold a phone it becomes thicker, I know that to some people that's fine but for the majority of fellas it will be too thick to fit in a pocket. I really think that the mate 20X it's one of a kind phone. With phones like the mate 20X we wouldn't even need much tablets anymore and it fits in men's jeans pockets and women's bags perfectly.

      I forgot to mention that until now all foldable phone have a weird aspect ratio and need an extra display for the exterior when folded, all of this makes them very expensive and just not practical.
