4:10 The only example I can think of when a DVD extra was excluded from a Blu-ray release was with The Two Doctors, which on the 2003 DVD featured the full original version of the 1985 "charity mini-episode" called A Fix with Sontatans, which is significant for being the only on-screen meeting between the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and Teagan (Janet Fielding), but the 2022 Blu-ray set for Season 22 mostly excludes this extra. On the Blu-ray there's only a significantly shortened version with most of the original broadcast edited out with no option to watch the original version. It's worth pointing out that the decision to do this was done with good reason, as the original full version heavily features real-life monster Jimmy Savile (I don't have the stomach to go into why Savile is bad, but you can look it up if you don't already know) and so the revisionist editing was done to scrub Saville out basically. Still, and I'll preface this next bit by saying I fully understand why people may disagree with me, but personally despite Saville being a genuinely evil person in real-life who should not be celebrated in any way shape or form I do think it's a shame that the Blu-ray didn't include the option to view the original broadcast purely for historic cultural purposes, perhaps with a contextual disclaimer at the beginning or something. Idk, somethings these things can be tricky. Regardless, that is one example of a Doctor Who Blu-ray technically missing something that was previously available on DVD. Thoughts Jason?
The Sea Devils is my favourite from this Pertwee season! Roger Delgado is amazing in that story. Plus a cameo from The Clangers is always fun to watch!
I actually have one of the hypnosis devices he uses. It's actually a flexable pifco torch to see roud corners. I unknowingly bought it on ebay just because I liked the design. The mirror was a custom attachment by the BBC.
Really enjoyed this unboxing video Jason. Season 9 and in particular Sea Devils and The Time Monster are my earliest memories of Dr Who. So a very special blu ray release for me.The Curse of Peladon Target Book was also one my first Target books. So lots of happy memories.
Firstly, love the idea of the Peladon video. Have wondered where you've been, and on your metal channel! As for this set, excited to get it when the Australian version comes out. A stellar season. I think that box you pointed out in the TARDIS picture was Delgado's, properly disguised to its surroundings which from memory was a reel to reel computer room. My favourite here has always been Day of the Daleks, and I really enjoy the special edition with added Dalek army and Briggs revoicing the staccato Dalek voices from the original.
Hey there, EA, yes both channels' outputs have suffered due to a combo of writing workload and health (mine and other people's). But it's great to be missed! Glad you like the idea of the Peladon video.
Looks like another lovely set, beautiful art as always. Think my favourite story of these would be Curse too (either that or Day, although I do have a soft spot for The Time Monster).
Hi Jason. As far as I'm aware there are 5 things that haven't been included on the blueray sets that I don't see getting put onto other sets. The Spanish soundtrack for episode 6 of The Web Plant (The Centre) wasn't included on the season two blue-ray The guy that has the film trims for logopolis offered them to be put on season 18 but only a few brief clips were used (in the making of documentary for logopolis). The film trims are available to watch on RUclips. I have two trailers for The Time Meddler repeat that wasn't included on the season 2 set. Finally I also have a Tom Baker interview filmed at pebble Mill from around 1992. In the interview he talks about his life and the upcoming vhs release of shada. In the interview he also says he way very fond of the Germans for bombing Liverpool 😂. I offered to lend my tapes to the BBC and the restoration team but they wasn't interested so apart from a Facebook upload and a video on RUclips. My Doctor Who stuff isn't publicly available to watch. I do plan on getting the rest of my tapes transferred when I can actually afford to send them off. When I have had the transferred all the interesting bits of footage will be uploaded to my RUclips channel.
Mine finally arrived today- can't wait to dive into it. I especially love all the extra archival footage they put in the special features of these box sets. I've never seen The Mutants either- I'm looking forward to seeing it. I always like filling in the gaps in my classic Who viewing. The Sea Devils is my favourite- one of the Third Doctors best for me. Lovely video as always
I watched this whole season myself recently (on DVD, though this set does look amazing) Curse of Peladon is definitely my favourite, with The Sea Devils a close second. The Mutants was the only Pertwee story I had never seen before, and it was bloody awful so I wish I hadn't bothered. Still got a couple of Tom Baker stories I've yet to see, hopefully they turn out to be better!
@@jarnopp Just The Sun Makers and Underworld, then I can honestly say I've seen every classic Who story. But some I haven't seen for decades, so I can still look forward to watching those again!

A great looking box set - love the art. My favourite story is day of the daleks which was of the first DR Who stories to get a VHS release after Baker Cyberman story and Troughton Ice warrior story. I have these VHS editions (and a couple of Laser discs too). The collection series is great but they do take up a lot of shelf space but hey ho still great. Wonder what next one will be - probably Davison season - but all are welcome…. Another great unboxing.
Thanks Jason! Great review! Looking forward to this season. I remember being impressed with the sea devils but annoyed with Alpha’s voice! I like the box set packaging but disappointed that the image of Jon Pertwee doesn’t look like him. The same story for the season 2 image of hartnell imho. Season 12 and 19 covers are the best in my opinion. Great to have you back Jason!
Looks like a lovely box set, I was born when the Sea Devil's first came out. Hoping mine comes tomorrow. I'm looking forward for a Davison release when ever that will be! Being my favourite Doctor.
Hello Jason hope you are doing good. Pleasantly surprised by this release as I’m a big fan of day of the daleks and the sea devils myself and this is definitely my favourite pertwee collection box art yet. Also glad to see monsters have made a prominent return to disk art again!

The Mutants is one of my favorite stories for the 3rd doctor because it is the one time Baker and Martin wrote something with a very strong political implications. It is a wonderful story which touches on prejudice and colinization, and treats the human race as the oppressors. I think it gets a bad wrap from effects alone. I would definitely recommend you pop that one on.

Mostly, yeah. After saying what I said, I'll admit to having remembered plenty of location-based features that I really enjoyed! They make them much more entertaining these days. Guess I was mainly thinking about the DVD extras! But yeah, location stuff in general can be very dry.
@@jarnopp Yep that was what I was referring to as well. Anything 1970's BBC though can give you a great laugh as you see the same steps, room, even corridors not just within DW but even across shows. Professor Kettlewell's Office (Robot) has featured in more episodes than some Doctor's. Cheers.

Happy St. Pat's, to you too!! The actor, in the Mutants, that you don't know, played Luke's friend from Tattoine, Biggs, who besides deleted scenes, is killed in the Death Star assault. The racial diversity odic', is good -it's on the Mutants, as there was a rarity of "not pale face" actors during times of Who. There is a prominent Afro-British actor, whose name is Cotten...The docs' does cover other British television, besides Who, and the merit of character actors who unlike a few stories (Crusade, Weng-Chiang) have positive ethnic representation (Tenth Planet, astronaut! etc) Noel C' from the modern series ,narrates -before some sexual misbehavior took him out of the running, like with John B'. I do hope you enjoy The Mutants, and The Time Monster -😀
Thanks so much for the great info, Jonathan! I do actually wish the booklet could have some kind of symbols that tell you at a glance whether a special feature is new or from the DVD era. :)
My favourite stories here are Curse Of Peladon with The Mutants being a close second. I don't know why The Mutants receives such harsh criticism. I would recommend you watch it. I completely understand what you mean when you say it's nice to have an unwatched Doctor Who story up your sleeve. I would recommend you keep The Time Monster for this purpose. Without a shadow of a doubt this is the worst Pertwee story. It is also in my list of top 5 worst stories from any Doctor. I have nothing but scorn to heap upon it. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The fake slowmo running is pathetic, the TARDIS control room is horrendous and Benton's appearance at the end of the final episode is embarrassing. However having said all that you will probably dislike The Mutants and really enjoy The Time Monster. I find it's usually the case that I dislike things people recommend and love the things others dislike. Not just with Doctor Who stories, with everything. But you're maybe not afflicted with my condition of being extremely contrary. It's good to see you back on RUclips, keep up the good work
Gasp!!! Tries to steady himself by the sheer shock of such a announcement....... 🤣. You will find these two doctors both very interesting and very different. So sit back put your feet up and enjoy the early years of Dr Who 👍
It’s a shame you couldn’t do a little bit of research about the stories and characters before this review, and suggesting you don’t understand that you’re being paid for promoting a product with a copy of the product is really something else…

Hi Jason, thank you for the video. I think my favourite story is the day of the daleks. I do love Lee Binding art work. I also like the excitement of what season will be next? My guess a Peter Davidson season . 😊
You're very welcome, Ray! I would indeed like a Davison. Or of course, a Troughton!

It's good to see you back on RUclips, keep up the good work
Thanks so much Aaron. And yes, I'm looking forward to seeing what I make of these two tales!
I've barely seen any of the second and third doctors. A crime, I know. I'm hoping to watch some of their episodes soon 😉
Brilliant! How nice to have so much classic Who to explore. :)
Hehe, cheers Alex! Do come back when ya got a little less time. 😄
