    I remember this advert on ITV in the '50s. I don't think that it would go down too well today though 😱!

    The second one ... racial stereotypes aside for just a moment, I find it an interesting touch how the mouth forms an S and O when he says "Esso" - I guess it's interesting to me because of how it ties in to "Esso" being the phonetic pronunciation of "S.O," the abbreviation for "Standard Oil," IDK I'm weird.

    • @stephenroney2366
      @stephenroney2366 Год назад +8

      They're all racial stereotyping including the English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh ones. This one I beilieve is American, Caribbean, Chinese and Mexican. Some folk nowadays are too sensitive and will actively find fault in everything.. Just ignore them.

      @@tortinwall I was wondering if people referred to it by that term in a sarcastic manner. I agree that it is chock full of offensive and negative stereotypes. If you were to show this today you would find yourself buried in a mountain of lawsuits as well as the subject of multiple protests. By the by, if you happen to pass a Church of Scientology, would you please inform them that it is not nice to refer to non Scientologists as wogs?

    With the current UK fuel crisis, I don't think it means it now. Maybe terrestrial TV should broadcast this ad again, just to rub it on people's noses. Or, as they are queuing for fuel, Esso could put big screens up showing old Esso ads to remind them of the good old days of happy motoring.
