The second one ... racial stereotypes aside for just a moment, I find it an interesting touch how the mouth forms an S and O when he says "Esso" - I guess it's interesting to me because of how it ties in to "Esso" being the phonetic pronunciation of "S.O," the abbreviation for "Standard Oil," IDK I'm weird.
They're all racial stereotyping including the English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh ones. This one I beilieve is American, Caribbean, Chinese and Mexican. Some folk nowadays are too sensitive and will actively find fault in everything.. Just ignore them.
@@tortinwall I was wondering if people referred to it by that term in a sarcastic manner. I agree that it is chock full of offensive and negative stereotypes. Is this commercial "reeeecist" or...Is it inclusive? It's surprising to see a commercial from the "lily white" 1950's have Asian, Black and Hispanic characters in it. No matter how stereotypical they may be.
It is not discriminatory but inclusive. Because if this advertisement makers were racist, firstly they might not let people other than white ones comes up in the advertisement.
Well they could do impressions of celebrities such as Joan Collins, Kenneth Williams, Bobby Moore, Billy Connolly, Barbra Windsor, Scooby Doo, Lil Nas X, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey and Anna Kendrick.
With the current UK fuel crisis, I don't think it means it now. Maybe terrestrial TV should broadcast this ad again, just to rub it on people's noses. Or, as they are queuing for fuel, Esso could put big screens up showing old Esso ads to remind them of the good old days of happy motoring.
@@captainhappiness2873 white people were cartoon-fied as well during those times.. people are just very offended and sensitive about everything under the sun.. but considering they don't know what gender they are anymore, I'm not surprised
I remember this advert on ITV in the '50s. I don't think that it would go down too well today though 😱!
It was not aimed at 2021 audiences.
Exactly, as they often say now on films " its not made for them"
I agree with the Asian stereotype “the Esso sign mean very happy motoring!”
It's only happy until you get into a car crash.
It would probably mean some very unhappy motoring today.

The tune is the old folk song "There was an old man called Michael Finnigan". We were taught it in school, and it was indeed very catchy and memorable
