So I’m listening to this song minutes after I turned 18 and graduated, milestones that I thought I’d never reach. I never thought that I’d even make it to 16; I used to be so s*icidal. But then I finally started gaining the courage to love myself, and, thank God, that got me to where I am today. Sure, I still have down days, but I’m happier that I’ve ever been, and I’m going to college on a full-ride to become a wildlife biologist. I dedicate this song to my younger self
In the clip where she mentioned this. I believe she said that she originally wrote it for herself. But after he died she realized it was for him. So more of a posthumous dedication.
honestly thinking about this song makes me sad but at the same time very relieved, knowing that I have to grow, that I have to continue, that I have to live, terrifies me.
This album is perfect, unbelievable how each song says so much and goes so deep. She’s truly tapped into something big and her talent in singing, songwriting, lyrics, and production, is kinda unparalleled. I think it will go down as a true classic (whatever that word means to whoever) if the word holds up. If the world crumbles (as some of her lyrics prophesize in a sense) then maybe no music will last. But for now it’s very healing to listen to these songs, they get even better with age.
[Verse 1] Picture me better I finally found the time to write you this letter To the stars and moon for you And it's coming back soon Don't need no money when you're around And you're making me act funny Can't help to smile with those eyes that shine Only, if only you could see [Chorus] You got it all in spades Got a lot of dreams and songs to say Hearts to break Waiting for the call from beyond Waiting for something with meaning To come through soon [Verse 2] Picture us better We finally found a winter for your sweater Got a brand new big suit of armour It's tough, since you left I've grown so much If I could have seen you just once more Tell you how much you're adored There's no point anymore [Chorus] Waiting for the call from beyond Waiting for something with meaning To come through soon
I agree. I heard more of the 50s in there because Elvis had a song or two that had very similar sad swells mixed like this song. But yeah this is definitely an homage to music of around that time.
She played _Something To Believe_ as well, but they haven't posted video. Here's the audio: www.thecurrent.org/feature/2019/05/21/weyes-blood-performs-in-the-current-studio
"We finally found a winter for your sweater"

A gorgeous, heart-wrenching tune. She said she wrote this about her friend who committed suicide.
Do you recall the interview?
RIP Sam Mehran
@@carlscott5447 she told the crowd at a show I went to earlier this year
wow, very insightful. I had grafted my own meaning that was much less painful.

[Verse 1]
Picture me better
I finally found the time to write you this letter
To the stars and moon for you
And it's coming back soon
Don't need no money when you're around
And you're making me act funny
Can't help to smile with those eyes that shine
Only, if only you could see
[Chorus]
You got it all in spades
Got a lot of dreams and songs to say
Hearts to break
Waiting for the call from beyond
Waiting for something with meaning
To come through soon
[Verse 2]
Picture us better
We finally found a winter for your sweater
Got a brand new big suit of armour
It's tough, since you left I've grown so much
If I could have seen you just once more
Tell you how much you're adored
There's no point anymore
[Chorus]
Waiting for the call from beyond
Waiting for something with meaning
To come through soon
this is amazing .. I feel like I’m watching the sun rise and set at the same time
I’ll just lay here in the corner and sob. So gorgeous.
