One of my all time favorite movies. Sometimes I get a glass of my wine and close the shutters, put the DVD in and put put my legs up on the recliner. My time.❤

Seeing Al Lettieri laughing and having fun is freaking me out, one of the best on-screen bad guys.
One of the best RUclips videos I've ever seen. A legend such as Steve McQueen in the midst of genuine inmates of a Texas penitentiary keeping things down to earth. Same with the locals. Gotta love it. Rest in peace, King of Cool. I'm 69 now and this young boy loved seeing your films as a kid.
One year behind you, and same here. I saw The Getaway when it came out. Pekinpah was the Quentin Tarantino of his day, and Steve McQueen was a true badass as usual, he made the movie.
I was lucky enough to see the preview screening of this film back in 1972 and I was only 10 years young uncle David was 1 of the producers my mom's brother David Foster.
A simple plot, but For some reason it's my favorite McQueen movie. 2 people running against The wind, in a way it Reminded me of my Wife, and myself in our youth".
What a great movie this was. I saw it in Ecuador in 79, even that this movie was showed in 72, McQueen was loved in my country because, he was a cool bad ass actor.
Randy Johnson nah you got Steve all wrong. He was a street kid and had a very hard life. He was a "pain in the ass" to the people with the money and power.
When I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan back in 1974-75 in front of Gate Two of Kadena Air Base just about every shop you went in had a pic of Steve. They really loved him over there.
...the textile machinery; the field working force; the breaking of the bridge model; the lack of concentration; the memories of her... That whole jail scene at the beginning, masterfully captures a prisoner anger and frustration, like I've never seen before or after. Boredom & monotony brings tension.
I love the pics of the super stars meeting the locals. I'm sure it made their day, both sides. Prison pic's where amazing that it was filmed in a real prison.
Thanks so very much for posting these great pics.As much of a "pain in the ass" as Steve McQueen was often purported to be, it's nice to see he had a soft side as well...
As a long time Pecinpah fan, I'd give anything to see this one in its original cut, with the score by Jerry Fielding. I wonder if it still exists in a vault somewhere?
after reading the Wikipedia on it, I'd say we'll never see/hear it. McQueen of all people, insisted after seeing an early cut of the film, that Quincy Jones should be hired, which means Fielding got fired. Peckinpah didn't like that ,and wrote a very public letter to JF, thanking him for his aborted effort. but it apparently didn't end his friendship w/ McQueen. y' hafta be a big star to 'GET AWAY' w/ that. I don't get it.
@@davidtignor6698 yeah, steve had the final say alright apparently he gut a lot of scenes with al lettieri out, this then led to a major falling out between the two of them.
Pechanpaw sorry for the spelling. really saw this as an extremely interesting way to rob a bank.. etc..Im still watch the shooting and the way McQueen really handled his mannerism his look it was excellent done..
I missed NEWT ARNOLD...thank you sir for being so kind and polite. Nobody did a more funnier safety meeting and just make all feel lucky to be around you
Wow!!!! One of my favorite films, accompanied by one of my favorite songs! Anyway I could give another 693 likes all by myself? Awwww, rats, it only allows ONE, probably a wise policy, lol. Actually, this video has been up 7 years, and less than 700 likes?!?! How is that possible?
yeah, loved that bit, when he says, don't figure ya gonna shoot me are ya? McQueen replies I kinda doubt it. and the very end when they drive off to toots theilmans harmonica. I often wonder what that shot would look like today. I get a bit nostalgic .
Steve, the rebel/ Fast cars and girls/ Many things to revel/ Conquering the film world/ Crown was my favorite/ Get away, ok/ Steve was the man/ Still COOL today/
Just noticed that Steve McQueen and British actor Martin Shaw resemble damn near identical looks. Martin played 'Doyle' in the hit secret service show "The Professionals" (CI5) in the late 70's and early 80's which ran for about 6 or so years and is still performing in the UK today. See RUclips..
Steve apparently enjoys meeting the fans. I would have liked to have met Ben Johnson. It was a little surprising that he got killed off quite early in the film. From what I hear Al Lettieri was very hard to work with due to his drinking. The last three years of his life were quite busy in some well known films.
Sam Peckinpah, Steve McQueen, Ben Johnson and The Allman Brothers, it doesn’t get any better. I heard Robert Evans knew McGraw would fall for Steve. I often wonder what would have happened at the Cielo Drive house had Steve been there as he was apparently supposed to be if the rumors are true. Before CGI and the rest of what we are offered today, I can only imagine what Sam would think. Punch it baby.
A story I read claimed that when Steve and Ali tried setting Sally Struthers up with someone, Al Lettieri was FURIOUS because he and Sally were having a hot-'n-heavy romance. It was said that Lettieri threatened to kill McQueen and McQueen kept a .38 handy just in case.

A great movie from the first scene to the last. What a beautiful lady .and I'm a little surprised Steve signing autographs for a bunch of lifers
Randy Johnson nah you got Steve all wrong. He was a street kid and had a very hard life. He was a "pain in the ass" to the people with the money and power.
They must have made alot of money with those autographs!
Enjoyed the hell out of this. Ali was just stunning.

RIP. Great Sam peckinpah.
"The Wild Bunch"... Excellent film editing!!
Totally changed my view on Westerns!!

I was 4-5 when they filmed this in San Marcos Tx .. great cast I named my son after the King of Kool
Love you Steve. My all time favorite

Familiar scenes. I remember from my Texas State (SWT) days!
Al Lettieri was reported to be a real pain as he was frequently drunk (or so they say)
mcqueen was a really humble man he just liked women partying and trying to make the best film he could
RULES ALL ! McQueen & McGraw will never be topped !!!!
Thank you for this!
Another legendary villain role played by the late, great iconic Al “Sollozzo” Lettieri.
you remember him from the godfather movie this movie too he was also a bad guy in mr. majestic 1973 with charles bronson
@@davidtignor6698 his best film was THE DON IS DEAD
Great film and great stills. Cheers for posting :)
Excellent photos
one of the surprises of this movie came from the performance of Sally Struthers.after this,i never looked at her the same way.
Yea mate she’s a riot , cek her Vid out being interview by Norman Gunston .. it’s a pisser

See SS in Five Easy Pieces - what a tart!
The 70’s was a very cool decade 😎
This was awesome!

Have you read the book by Jim Thompson? It's very strange...
the cut we see is steves cut he had final cut it would be cool to see pecinpahs cut

Badass video! Thank you!
Al Lettieri. What a badass.

Quincy Jones did a masterpiece for this movie.

Look at Sam and Steve's faces light up when talking to young people.
Tak ten Film byl super , naprawde dobra robota.
Miss those times and those people back then . Ali MacGraw was special . Had that educated , wild side going on .
Best film of all time
I recall the music score was tossed at the last minute and rewritten by Quincy Jones.
Des belles images du tournage...

One of my favorite McQueen films, great movie.Has been redone twice. The original still the best!

Awesome. One of my favorite films. Great chemistry during the filming. Thanks for the upload. Where did you get the photos?
The best thing about that movie was the end . When he got into the truck with Slim Pickens . Shoot slim stole the movie .........

super souvenir !
The train scene! Who were the extras picked to play those parts? The extras are the most important as they give the film its autheticity and texture.
Steve, the rebel/
Fast cars and girls/
Many things to revel/
Conquering the film world/
Crown was my favorite/
Get away, ok/

Still COOL today/

Lol! He made it more than just delivering the message! Did he want the money or not?
I would like to set my way back machine to 1972. Go there for another turn. Thanks St. Paul Minnesota.
Wow, "Midnight Rider" is so HOT. It's a stroke of luck while enjoying the pictures. 😁
Sam Peckinpah, Steve McQueen, Ben Johnson and The Allman Brothers, it doesn’t get any better. I heard Robert Evans knew McGraw would fall for Steve. Tremenda película. Un guion espectacular.
His most excellent movie.
It's a good one but I'd give the nod to "Papillon".
" PUNCH IT. BABY ! "
BEN JOHNSON..STEVE MC QUEEN..ALI MC GRAW...nothing else needs to be said...!
One more thing: Sam Peckinpah!
Very cool!
Apparently Al Lettieri wasn’t happy with Steve McQueen as he had some his scenes cut from the final movie .
"...if we're hot, we're going to have to try Laughlin's in El Paso."
Love the rifle scene double buck...
great movie
Where did you get this photo?
Who performed the song in this amazing video ? It's a great song.
I guess Slim Pickens drove 7 years
later the Same Pick Up in Spielbergs
"1941"...
It's "Midnight Rider" by The Allman Brothers.
@@behindthescenesphotos5133 Thank you !!!!👍
How long did this film take to make?
Great shots...but where's Richard Bright? He and Al Lettieri later appeared in "The Godfather."
that's a bearded Jim Garner at 1:28 talking to McQueen. Garner did a car stunt in the movie.
Sam would say ,, satire gone bad,, but,, i still love that movie.
Those days
Why in black and white?
Awesome! God Ali McGraw was a knockout!
The end of the movie she probably told Al to get it in one shot..She had to rely on Steve to get her to the wall from the rails..That was brave...
Sam p great wild bunch was his best
Yeahhhh the almond brothers xxxx
1:21 James Garner
Wow...good catch...never would have guessed that from that photo (and the beard)!!
@@arthurbishop3173 They both liked fast cars and weed.
Jim was delivering a new van to his buddy Luis Delgado aka Officer Billings from The Rockford Files who was also working on The Getaway also.
I didn't know Charlie Manson directed this movie

Lettieri was a heavy drinker and hot tempered when he was drunk, so I heard.
Really?
heard that too steve carried a gun after he found out he was on charles manson hit list he did have a body guard on the set after al threatned him
yeah, i heard al lettieri threatened steve mcqueen after a lot of scenes with lettieri were cut by mcqueen.
A DAMN GOOD MOVIE!
Id love to be in a movie like this in 2021 with a beautiful supermodel! Yasmeen Ghauri would be perfect! God im such a fucking dreamer!!!
Lol! When she turns tge gun on McQueen..Smart lady..
