This song is EPIC. It's an entire movie in 1 song. So much , morals , tradedy, a mothers love. Wow. I'm crying , coz my mother was terrible to me. They don't write songs like them these days. So beautiful.
I'd never heard of this song or knew anything of its existence until I recently started reading Duma Key by Stephen King. Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, on the small chance anyone else might consider picking it up, the main character starts the story with some memory problems, among other issues, and this is the song that holds the key to some of his memories. It had been playing in his car during an accident. He puts a strong emphasis on the line "It was RED!' (0:41) It's likely the only line in the song he really remembers. I just felt like I had to listen to this song to understand the character a little more. Oh well, nevermind me ranting about something you'll all probably never be interested in anyway.
Carry On!!! You are being passionate about something you love and it was so cool for you to share that with the internet I may have to go buy the book on audio because sitting and reading is really hard for me
My mom listened to this song all the time when she was still with us, but by the time I started reading Duma Key I hadn't heard it in years. So far it's a pretty good book, but after the tenth mention of "It was RED!" I had to come back and listen to it again.
I know your comment was left a couple of years ago, but I love that I stumbled upon it! This is one of my favorite Reba songs, and the fact that YOU associate it with such a good book and fond memory makes my heart happy.
I think there should be a movie made from this song......Think it would be great with the correct writers.....I dont think there is a movie about this...So many movies can be written from songs....
There's a movie/book that reminds me of this song. It's East of Eden by Steinbeck. Very similiar because of prostitution and family themes, also about the poverty issue.
Krystal Woody I’m thankful that this song doesn’t remind me of my own mother! God rest her soul! My mother loved us kids and she would have turned the tricks herself if there was no other choice, before putting me out there as a teenager! I like this song but it’s a very troubling song! Most mothers would never do this to their daughter. And then says don’t let me down? 😳 Nope!
We need a movie for this song. East of Eden is very similiar to the story of this song just because of Catherine and her back-story, but this song, this STORY have such an interesting twist that need their own movie!
+Panda42 A 'high priced' prostitute by today's standards but it used to be called a 'Courtesan'. I'd like to think of Fancy as a Courtesan. :) www.mtholyoke.edu/courses/rschwart/hist255-s01/courtesans/defining-the-courtesan.htm
Agent1W No a prostitute is paid to have sex (and they both know she is doing it for the money). A gold-digger uses a man for the money/ a will (and then sometimes tries to kill him off so she gets all of it to herself).
Killer track! & thanks for the lyrics. I was always unsure about that last verse. What a phenomenal song! I can almost see a movie playing just from the lyrics and Reba's vocal performance. They don't make 'em like this anymore! 👍
@@sarahsharp8652 Exactly. She knew she was dying and Fancy (no longer underage, so no foster home for her) would be left alone and homeless. She spent the little money she had buying her something that'd make it easier for her to survive and you can tell she didn't "sell" her because she died poor. Self-righteous hypocrites lack reading (or rather listening) comprehension lol
Reba, such a refreshing true gutteral country sound.. Match this with " This Property Confirmed", Robert Redford and Natalie Wood... AWESOME! 😉Excuse my spelling, evidently, spellcheck is 1960's ignorant...lol . This Property Condemned
Well im just being a big ohl baby singing in my hospital bed in Akron General 4401 but i grew up this way after a while i understand more about it then most
I just can't put a price tag on love. A friend, a honest voice free from greed and envy. I wont place a price on it. I haven't been privledged to hear it yet that I know of.
I always knew this song had power and it still does many years later. Didn't really know what she was talking about, i always heard "Lord, forgive me for what i do..." and that is the important thing to remember. I kinda figured it out on a hot Texas night i was gettin' in my car when a woman who's name wasn't fancy, asked me how to get somewhere. I gave her directions and she walked off into the dark
robin gordon I like this song but thank God I can’t relate to it on any level! My Mama would have never done this to me and would have prostituted herself before putting any of her kids out there and I would never do this to my daughter either!
Stitches Something or Everything Lol! I have only heard this name twice in my life! In this song and there was a girl named Fancy that went to my high school.
What's the deal? The original released sound track. Fancy was only thirteen. Which is with in the age of sexual consent for females in several states, with in the U. S. of A. According to written and published record Family Law practice. For instance Kansas state law, and South Carolina state law has set the age of female sexual consent at age twelve for females. So a girl at the age of thirteen in those states are at the age of sexual consent for them selves. And Fancy is OK being thirteen. Why did Reba McEntire decide to change the original produced and released lyrics of the original sound track? Was it do to pressure from the politically wrong Cristian moral right? Or the Me Movement? I am woman, see me roar, meow. I personally prefer pussycats.
See how easy you have it, ladies? Go up from a one-room shack to a nice townhouse in a big city and all you had to do is be nice to the gentlemen. Not that I justify prostitution at all but it's one of the easiest paths to prosperity in the grand scheme of things. But for the BOYS, we need a hard-to-concoct cocktail of opportunity, drive, motivation, luck, and time to strike it rich in one's lifetime.
There are words on this LYRIC LIST that shouldn't be on it. Like a few AND's that make the singer late on certain entro's to a verse. A BIG thumbs down! I had been using this play list to practice my Reba Song to Fancy, but those small intricate words mean SO MUCH in the way her music is sung. Please PLEASE PLEASE.... FIX IT OR TAKE IT DOWN!! A DISGRACE TO REBA!!!😑
This is the rare country song that makes me teary eyed. Reba's voice is AMAZING in this powerful song.
cheetara25 I get teary eyed too
cheetara25 this song always gave me chills the words are fucking deap
Same here...one of my favorite country songs and Reba be leaving that strong effect on you
This song is beautiful!
I seriously thought I was the only one that gets teary eyed when I hear this song.
This song is EPIC. It's an entire movie in 1 song. So much , morals , tradedy, a mothers love. Wow. I'm crying , coz my mother was terrible to me. They don't write songs like them these days. So beautiful.
You are absolutely right

Stephen King huh? I’ll have to check it out

Cool ima check that book out I love Stephen King
this song will never let me hear it without chills growing all over my body
The most depressing, upbeat song that's so catchy you can't help but sing along to.
It's got alot of reality in it's punch.
I think there should be a movie made from this song......Think it would be great with the correct writers.....I dont think there is a movie about this...So many movies can be written from songs....
Or a musical ..... and true
There's a movie/book that reminds me of this song. It's East of Eden by Steinbeck. Very similiar because of prostitution and family themes, also about the poverty issue.
Pretty Woman.
Pretty Woman is close
There’s a lot of songs and books that should have been movies I agree completely.
It took me a long time to understand this song, after I whatched the lyrics
Thats weird. The song and music video have 2 different endings. In the song she stays a high class escort, the video she becomes a singer and actor.
I listened to this song when I was little. I love Reba. I sang to this song all day today and have a great singing voice.
Did you know it was about prostitution when you were little? I did lol
ive loved this song for a while, and i just recently understood what the song was about. watched the music video and i sobbed.
This is one of my favorite reba songs ever, she's still got it!!
Kathleen Woodruff yes she does 😇😇
Same here
A man wrote this song
Well, actually the original song is from Bobbie Gentry.. Bobbie is the first singer and the writers of this song, and she is a woman..

Heres your one chance fancy don let me doooowwwnnn
Reba, such a refreshing true gutteral country sound.. Match this with " This Property Confirmed", Robert Redford and Natalie Wood... AWESOME! 😉
"to thine own self be Tru"
My mom sounds just like her singing this
Krystal Woody I’m thankful that this song doesn’t remind me of my own mother! God rest her soul! I used to love to hear this song on the radio when I was a kid.
Did you know it was about prostitution?

It's sad that not a lot of people appreciate country, especially the classics, nowadays.
We need a movie for this song. East of Eden is very similiar to the story of this song just because of Catherine and her back-story, but this song, this STORY have such an interesting twist that need their own movie!
Love Reba...she is an amazing singer!
I left ve this song it is so inspiring be strong! I'm a kid I know and love this song
Jessica Phillips Nothing inspiring about being a prostitute! This is just a song! Real life isn’t a song.
one of my favorite Reba song.
remember hearing this when I was younger, just realizing she was singing about prostitution.
+Jeff S This song literally has NO connection to prostitution
+Panda42 A 'high priced' prostitute by today's standards but it used to be called a 'Courtesan'. I'd like to think of Fancy as a Courtesan. :)

I thought it was about a gold-digger
Gold-digger, prostitute, same difference.
Agent1W
No a prostitute is paid to have sex (and they both know she is doing it for the money).
A gold-digger uses a man for the money/ a will (and then sometimes tries to kill him off so she gets all of it to herself).
This gives me shivers ♥️

Juliana MM Her “mom,” pimped her out. Just threw her to the wolves as a teenage girl! Not cool!
