Wonderful reading. We are lucky to have a professional reader make this available without charge. And thank you muchly to the person who edited out all the 'This is a librivox recording....' It must have been tiresome, but so improves the flow. And II read this for the fun of it, not because of a school assignment !
Thanks. So many people go like "OMG this channel is stealing this from Librivox!"... as if all the work of editing, cleaning up noise, marking chapters, getting a nice cover, etc, means nothing.
Thank you so much for this delightful reading. You brought drama and life to this wonderful story. These characters will live forever in my mind because of your interpretation.
What an amazing reading! Thank you for the fine job you have done of editing, and doing audio magic! I thought I had read most of Dickens, but then found I had missed more than a few. I am so glad you have given us this gift. Thank you
I very much enjoyed the person that read this awesome book bravo!!!! Thank you I got a week's worth of interesting listen at work, loved the difference in the caracters voices, thanks
I want to say thankyou your voice is so exciting and for working class and for free you are a true contribution to humanity. You are a fantastic ladu thankyou.
Well. That's a first! Gollum (the evil Quilp)makes an appearance in a Dickens novel. I have been totally enraptured by this one, especially by the narration. (PRECIOUSSSS 💍)😅an amazing grasp of the old English or how I've always imagined it helped by the famous films such eg Oliver and Great expectations. THANX.
Thank you for your hard work 💜 I listen to your voice until I fall asleep 😴 💤 I appreciate the time and effort,I admit I would not be satisfied now until listening to all your dickens works.goodnight godbless
My only complaint would fall to the fact of Dickens choosing to call one character "the bachelor" and another character "the single man" and I get confused between the two. Mil did a great job of narrating, and her different character voices are superb. And she did an especially great job with the lines after Mr. Brass drank the boiling rum and was coughing and spluttering at the heat and strength of it.
I think this is my favorite Charles Dickens book (it’s rivaled by an tale of two cities’ and then Pickwick Papers’, but I think this is still my fav.)Thanks so much for uploading it!
11:51:30 hrs - 11:54:15 hrs "And man has his love of home from God. And if those who rule the destiny of nations would remember this... In love of home, love of country has its rise, and who are the truer patriots for the better in time of need? those who venerate the land owning all they produce or those who love their country boasting not a foot of ground in all its wide domain?" Quite Brexit really, and not a little Sir Roger Scruton? And "Love of home is where all domestic virtue springs.... etc etc". And there is much else to consider in this short passage.
It's hard to find a professional reader reading stories from Charles Dickens Jules Verne and other classic authors that are not flat. I got lucky with some audio books but with others I'm still searching. When you're reading to someone or are recording the reading you need to put some emotion into it and emphasize and if you're told that enough try to do voice. Pretend you're reading to a room full of Young children.
The characters are amazing so. Some beautiful and others ugly and still others so repulsive that as a reader I wished were to be removed from all of society.
Hope this doesn't seem churlish, but her reading, altho much better than the others on Librivox, I find a bit too other worldly. A bit sing song. But by far the best.
Excellent tale.....but I'll never understand a reader's passion for voice characterizations ( this particular reader is very talented ) has not the ability to make an easier effort of skipping over the identity of each and every quote be it one syllable or a long speech, what is the sense of multiple voices but for the reader's self indulgence.
Brilliant narration! Excellent dramatization of the characters. But what a waste of time and breath on such a childish novel! The plot is weak stuffed with a lot of nonsense, unnecessary digressions and tens of marginal characters that contribute little or nothing to the development of the story. No wonder, Dickens wrote it when he was only 28 years old. The novel bears the hallmark of an amateur.
Keep in mind this wasn't written as a novel. This was released in 88 sections in a newspaper. The long and winding plot and silly characters were meant to entertain the readers, and to keep them in suspense, so that they would continue to buy the papers. Getting to the point quickly and efficiently would have run counter to purposes.
this is more than reading this is Vocal theater.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to enjoy this book in this fashion.
Many thanks.
Ms. Mil Nicholson, you narrate a beautiful novel beautifully. Your reading is like a play, with you acting all the parts. Bravo!
Flawlessly narrated. This novel is a Dickens masterpiece. Thoroughly engrossing.
23 hours of this wonderful story,my opinion is the grandfather was the reason for all the pain heaped on little nell

Normally listen to books at work. This book had me wrapped up so much I had issues shutting it off. Narrator is a great part of this.
Superb reading - the dwarf is the most excellent sounding evil villain! I had no idea of the end - was so surprised! Thank you so much.
Beautifully read, it’s a blessing to stumble upon such a talent for narration. Applause, Mil Nicholson! 🌹

Mel Nicholson manages so many characters voices it's like there are varias persons doing the reading. How does she do it.? I am mesmerized.

Thank you and God bless, what a beautiful reading. A thorough enjoyment I must say.
Great listening. Thank you for your beautiful reading.
Enjoyed this so much! Thank you for reading!

I can't imagine a better choice of reader.
Indeed. Many thanks for your great care and work.
Charles Dickens The man that invented Christmas 🎅🌲🌲
Queen Alice Kingsley Yes, he said, “ There is magic in the very word, ‘ Christmas’. 🎄🎄🎄
Great narrator! Thank you
Dickens had a sinister imagination. A little girl preyed upon by a variety of dodgy men, -and openly lusted after by a deformed dwarf.
Absolutely fantastic - thank you so very much.
Wonderful narration.
2019!!! borrowed the book The Old Curiosity Shop, out of curiosity! and more glad to have found this audio.
So good, soooo good. I love it.
Be brilliant! Thank you!
Wonderfully read. Thank you

Listening to a bit more everyday and keeping fingers crossed that Quilp meets a sticky end! Don in Sexy Beast is the last villain I hated as much.
Beautifully read
Love it. Great job!
Great !

Nice 😊
Perfection.
Thank You 😷
It will be better than if the story have books so we can hear and read
This is excellent.Dickens must be presented by a British voice
Likewise any American work read by an English reader will be ridiculous

You remainer wet wipes bring Brexit into everything. Leave Dickens alone, it is a good story so stop with your woke nonsense.
Lovely narrator. Do you know her name? Is it a Librivox?
It's in the description, isn't it?
@@andresanchezracing I didnt see it down there under time stamps, sorry =D
@@andresanchezracing nice......no really
The narrator appears to Portray the character of Master Humphrey & Charles Dickens who were one & the same person
parts of the book aren't in the audio. Does anyone know why that is?
👏👏👏👏👏👍👍
This is a very long book!😅

To tell the tale entertainingly for one.
