Stop calling our people "African" American. We're not "African". That name makes us comparable to other immigrant groups (e.g., Mexican-American, Italian-American, Jewish-American, Asian-American, etc.), but we were here before the USA existed... we are NOT immigrants like the rest of you.. we go by black American or foundational black American (FBA)..
Maybe immigrants from Africa...? This whole "AFRICAN AMERICAN" thing came to a head with the rise of Elon Musk... He's not black! But he is African... I think public speakers are the ones to blame for the widespread use of the term "AFRICAN AMERICAN" Black is one syllable. A-FRI-CAN A-MER-RI-CAN = a lot of syllables, and a lot of repetition... That makes it a more memorable thing in their speech. IMHO
@@michaelg3573 Elon is an immigrant. American Blacks are not immigrants, so the term "African American" should have been a slap in the face. But it was symbiotic with white guilt, so people had fun with it. I know blacks who were born in Africa, but unless they tell me I can't tell them from blacks from Haiti... So what ever... IMHO
@@Freddy-Da-Freeloadah We aren't immigrants though. To be an immigrant, you need to leave somewhere then join a country that is established. Africans arrived on the USA land mass with the Spanish early 1500s, then they escaped and inter-married with the indigenous population, then they were captured again by the English early 1600s, then were slaves until 1865, so we were here way before 1776, you can't immigrate to something that didn't exist before you arrived.
@@wise5674 Calling black people "African Americans" is an interesting phenomenon that has been going on for 4 decades. More then half the immigrants from Africa that I personally know, are not black. IMHO
