(Turn around) Every now and then I get a little bit lonely
And you're never coming 'round
(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit tired
Of listening to the sound of my tears
(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit nervous
That the best of all the years have gone by
(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit terrified
And then I see the look in your eyes
(Turn around, bright eyes) every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes) every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
'Cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time)
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
(Turn around, bright eyes) every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes) every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight (and I need you now)
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight (if you only)
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right (and we'll never)
'Cause we'll never be wrong

Hello. I feel so alive in my heart and feel everything I felt flow through me the first time I heard this beautiful song even now and always shall. Thank you so much.
Her sorrowful, lovely, rough voice breaks my heart in a way that’s worth it.
Rory Dodd is the unsung hero of this performance. He's the perfect accompaniment to Bonnie's fiery delivery. His persistent grace and vulnerability, especially at the end of the song never fails to move me.
He should have gotten an artist credit.
Same for "Loving you is a dirty job", long version❤
Technically he's the sung hero of this performance.
Initially I thought he was Meatloaf.
Honestly one of my favorite songs. The slow build up is impeccable and when you finally get to the chorus it's the biggest thing ever and I love it so much
Do you know more songs with that vibe? Building up and then exploding
@@Koshrocreations So sadly I don't know of any off the top of my head that hit the exact same note, but there's a few that do something similar, maybe one of them will work.
One of my favorite build-ups in music comes from Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull. At least the first minute or so is spectacular buildup to an explosion, and while the rest of the song is less that, it's still one of my favorite songs. And that initial buildup is impeccable as far as I'm concerned.
In some ways, while the exact nature is different, I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) by Meat Loaf has a surprisingly similar vibe despite being less of a build overall. It's more modulating, while slowly becoming more epic, but doesn't do quite the same massive explosion of a finale, although does do something still incredible. Same composer (Jim Steinman) wrote both songs, so if it does work for you, maybe track down some of his other stuff. Just listen to the full 12 minute version if you do.
For a reeeeally long one (17 minutes) that's a metal song, there's When Time Fades Away + Sons of Winter and Stars by Wintersun (it's one song despite being listed as two songs). At the very least, the initial build is fantastic and honestly worth listening to on its own, and the rest of the song is really good too.
If you're willing to indulge in some J-Pop, there's a few that are somewhat similar. Mikazuki by Sayuri is one of my favorites, and while its build isn't as long, it honestly still does a pretty good job of building up to the chorus and then letting it all out.
Similarly, if you want an explosion at the chorus, you might like Crying for Rain by Minami. Honestly worth it for the few seconds right before the chorus kicks in, it's phenomenal. Although like the song before it, it is on the shorter side between choruses so it can't build nearly as well as Total Eclipse.
The last one is very different, but I needed to mention it because I feel it does have a great build over the course of the song, but it's just a much more subdued song overall, so if you want the bombast that Total Eclipse reaches, it does not hit that. But just in terms of build, I do really like Michi by Taichi Mukai.
Hopefully something here works, if you ever find something that does a better job of emulating this song than what I listed, please let me know, I'd love to hear it.

Damn I feel that line right now
The summer of 8th into 9th grade I had a crush on a boy. The first school dance in 9th grade this song came on and he starts walking toward me. Then asked the girl sitting next to me to dance. They went to the dance floor and he positions them where he is facing me and he looks at me and sticks out his tongue. Yup I felt those lyrics also.
Not only you.😔😔😔💔💔💔

The Man was a genius, and Bonnie's vocal on this is beyond amazing.

R.I.P. Jim Steinman, another GREAT song in his huge vast catalog of music! Love this song!!
Paradise By The Dashboard Light, 2 Out Of 3 Ain't Bad, Rock Me Tonite, Total Eclipse Of The Heart, I Would Do Anything For Love, just to name a few. The man was a love song mastermind.
" Oh, man, I don't wanna die to this song."
At last, the full length version. Every time I hear this song on the radio, I hope that it will be this version. Of course, it's always the edit, but one can dream.
I didn't know until 2015 that there was a longer version.
Bobbie this is Debbie I love your song baby girl sweetie love ❤️ happy Mother’s Day to you texts me back please and thank you
I've always loved this long version better than the shorter single versions
I remember there was one radio station out of (I believe) Greensboro, NC (98.7) that used to play this entire 7-minute version. Heck, if the station still exists, they might still play the whole thing! I've rarely been back to that area for the last 13 or so years, plus I rarely listen to FM radio during the times I am there now, so couldn't tell you for sure.
same here, they still show the radio version in puerto rico on magic 97.3 and 99.5 and club radio 98.1 instead of the extended album version like the one we prefer.
This song is just GORGEOUS! Everything, the vocals, the arrangement, the lyrics, everything comes together just perfectly. It hit me in the feels then, and it hits me right in the feels now!
And Bonnie
I think it was written for a musical?

One of the most magnificent songs in the history of music. I lost the love of my life to breast cancer after 42 years. "a total eclipse of the heart"
My condolences 😢, I can imagine the pain you passed through. My grandmother is sick, we don't know what is wrong but the doctors suspect is cancer. I want to see her before she takes her last breath...
I'll be praying to God to bless you and my granny in this hard times.

Total Eclipse Of The 💜
It's crazy how many people listen to it again every day... this song is a masterpiece!
This is one of my guilty pleasure songs. Being from Chicago this wasn't being played amongst the black youth of the 80's but something about it I liked and still do. But back then I'd have to wait untill MTV played the video for me to hear it. Surprise surprise youngsters,MTV use to actually play music videos and wasn't nuthin like it! I wish someone would hurry up and build that damn time machine and take me back to 1982 and leave me thert
Wow how perfect are those pitches and rasp put in the right spots of the song! Just amazing voice!
I cosiddetti "raspy" nella sua voce sono il risultato di un intervento alle corde vocali, con mancata convalescenza. Comunque efficaci e stimolanti ❤️💕
If you can find it, "Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts" by this singer is also amazing.
And no autotune to prop up bad talent like they do today
To StuBotNYC: I have a different take on the whole matter of talent. If you'll bear with me as I bring up the parable of the talents, it might explain some things. Three people received talents and two worked with them. Their talents were studied, refined, polished, invested in, and who knows what else. In the end, they had accomplishments to offer the one who made it all possible. Then the lord gave largesse.
I feel sorry for those who had no opportunity to develop their potential without resorting to gadgets which did it all for them. The expense, sacrifices, time, and energy given to the service of a real gift are always worth it.
Just saying.
