YIKES GHOST. 👻😱🤯. Congratulations your half way there!! So very cool😎 ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏. I love your videos and all the information you share with us! Goooood night I hope the ghost behaved last night!! Rest up & Hike On!! 🏕️🧗♀️🥾👍
Rain jackets need the mesh liners. Makes all the difference and keeps your skin off the jacket, warmer, less condensation. I'll never buy just a shell again.
Resided in PA for 40 yrs. Glad to understsnd some history from iron making mining era. Sad it was so dangerous. There is a coke plant in Erie still, lots of concern for cancers but all denied of course.
Congratulations on reaching the halfway point to the highest mountain in Maine!!! The Ironmaster's Mansion was built in the 1820's, so there surely were horses around there then, and perhaps today, too. What kind of horse does a ghost ride? A night-mare. 🙂
Absolutely agree on the rain jacket. I had an OR ultralight that did the same. Took a weight penalty when I bought an Orvis “ultralight” ( not by backpacking standards ) and it made all the difference. Never soaked through again. You are much kinder than me, 5 Stack! That hostel was laughable in 2023,it was so bad. State of PA, where their funding is supposed to come from, should be ashamed. It looks pretty good in your video, it was trashed when I was there. Always appreciate your history lessons!
Congratulations on half way! You enjoy making the videos ….. I so greatly enjoy watching them! Thank you for all the interesting information! Steady on!
Congratulations being half way! So proud of you! Keep on Trucking! OMG you are to funny about the ghosts 🤣. Thank you for the details about how iron was/is made. Glad you got to be with Marty too 👍💪⛰️🥾
So as you know, we had hoped to meet up with you in Maryland. But we blinked and you’re through lol. Just got caught up yesterday and knowing what kind of weather we have had here this week, I’m sorry MD will be likely a regrettable footnote on ur thru. Although easy by AT standards, we love how many overlooks you get in a relatively short mileage, as well as so much history. Perhaps we will coincidentally meet in New England over Mem Day wknd when we head there to finish NH- Altho you may be home by then! Keep at it and thanks again for all the Geo lessons!
I can’t wait to see the next video to see if the ghosts were rowdy. This is the only posting I’ve seen of the inside of this mansion. Really nice stay. Thanks for the interesting knowledge of this! As a retirement fun job you could do in-depth videos. School wasn’t fun because I had to remember! But, knowledge like you give I can take in & “hope” to remember it but will remember what I liked most. The RUclips channel. AppalachianStotyTeller is such interesting stories you might enjoy him. It’s just stories but I love them.
Thank you for the lesson on iron manufacturing. Congrats on your progress. Appreciate tour of the hostel. Good luck rest of the way. Please keep the videos coming. Much enjoyed!
At least you got a bucket bath! When I stayed there (regrettably) in 21, I had cold water for a shower, no TP, and froze all night in bunk room. I would rather have stayed at campgrounds for $5 and hot water showers!
Not a large family but the family had personal servants and quarters of their own and he often had guests and local school groups stay. Had his personal office room. Large kitchen and dining room, a parlor.
Wow, this was so interesting. Enjoyed the nice shelter and the ghost must have felt honored to be in your presence 😅. I could not have stayed there alone I don’t think lol. Anxious to hear how it went. Nice raincoat! Is that by chance an Arcteryx?
Congratulations on halfway. Really appreciate the great videos. It's snowing here in Masschusetts this morning, but it should be gone before you get here. By the way, if you see Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duval at that big lonely mansion, run for it...
🚶👟👟⛺ congratulations on halfway to mount katahdin you have been moving right along enjoy watching your videos and all the education you also share 💯👻👻👻👻 BOO
Good video. Keep your eyes open along the trail, there are going to be a lot of old man-made features. I figure that you will hit CT before May. That is usually 6 to 8 weeks to Katahdin. Don't be surprised if you hit snow in NH and ME. Eat more proteins. You're on pace for a 5 month thru hike which burns up a body. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
Half way! What an accomplishment. Hopefully this weather will change soon and not be as rainy as last year. I just might have to add some of my chocolate chip cookies to the competition when you get to New Hampshire. Keep on keeping on. Thanks for taking us on the journey. Stay warm, dry and safe!!
Congrats on the 1/2 way mark! Couple of quick questions: What rain jacket did you end up switching to? Do you think the section from PenMar to Duncannon is good for a novice backpacker? Did Ironmasters have laundry? I was planning to stay there on my upcoming section hike and was hoping to get some clothes washed. Thanks and love your channel.
Arc'teryx is the brand. It is really expensive, but there is nothing like having been on the edge of hypothermia to prod one to make the investment. It is still reasonably light. I'm sure there are less expensive ones that are effective.
I am just wondering what brand and model of rain jacket did you switch to. I have that same Zpacks jacket and I agree it does what it was designed for but not cold endless rain. I assume you’re in this very bad storm that is crushing the Northeast. Here in Vermont the snow is coming down. Congratulations on making the half way point. That is awesome and no small accomplishment. Take care

Anything UL is expensive. But hypothermia is something to play around with. I really enjoy your informative talks about rocks ETC. Congratulations on halfway mark.
Great to see you so close. Planning on meeting you after Duncannon yet. Keep in touch about your plans for the couple of days. Phone number on an email to you.
You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Congratulations on half way! I love watching your journey. Thanks for taking us along!
Congratulations on half way to Mama K. You’re flying along.😊❤
Im wondering how that night went. Love it when you geek out. Its more than just a hike. Enjoying it alot.😊

Thanks for the tech explanation of iron.
Interesting
Awesome 🎉 congratulations!!

I was a manager at the I.M. hostel long ago. I could go on and on about the weird occurrences there
Nice work, glad you could get out of the rain!! Might see you in the next few days. Stay safe!

Sorry to have missed you! The MD section was great, even with a bit of rain. Peggy had a great time.

Congratulations on being half way to Katahdin! Woohoo! Very cool history about how iron was made.

Whoo hoo halfway there!!! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
That iron master must have had a huge family to need such a big house. Thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts with us. Stay safe Jedi Knight

Wow, the Iron Masters Mansion to yourself. Wild.

Yes
Congratulate on reaching the half way point!
5:11 Same with me. I have not hiked North of PA.
Congrats on the halfway point! And Happy (404) Day from ATL!

Great job over 1/2 ,good video with some good views on a cold rainy day again, that was a big hostel, so let's keep on hiking 😊
Enjoying thank you! Keep it up!
Congratulations on being half way through 🎉
Congrats on halfway. Been an enjoyable watch so far.. only wishing forward movements to you!
Half Way!😊🏔🏕👍👍👍👍👍✌️
Halfway There! 🎉👏🎉
You are a force to be reckoned with. 🥾
Great job Iron-master!😉 You probably scared those mansion ghosts.
👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Half way there😅. Congratulations
Congratulations on reaching the half way point.
Congrats on the 1/2 way mark! Couple of quick questions:

Did Ironmasters have laundry? I was planning to stay there on my upcoming section hike and was hoping to get some clothes washed.
Thanks and love your channel.
The hostel does have laundry, but only one set of machines. If a lot of folks are there it would beca problem.
Penmar to Duncannon is a fairly easy section.
The jacket in Arcterix
Thank you! Safe travels.
Congrats on making it halfway, and you get to celebrate with a ghost!
Congrats on the 1/2 way to Katahdin! Amazing...
Did any ghost visit you ? Footsteps, knocking , apiristions 😳😳 congrats on the halfway point!!
They were quiet last night...or I slept too hard to hear the ruckus.
I was wondering which raincoat you got as well. I think I’d be scared in that big house all alone. Did it have heat?
Arc'teryx is the brand. It is really expensive, but there is nothing like having been on the edge of hypothermia to prod one to make the investment. It is still reasonably light. I'm sure there are less expensive ones that are effective.
Whoo hoo! Halfway done, congratulations 🎉! No gas equals no heat? I saw the fireplace but was wondering if it was in use.
Don't think the fireplace is in use.
@@5StackHikes Brrr. Like camping outdoors temperature wise. Great job of sharing the history. I really enjoyed that.

I appreciate you so much 5 Stack!!!!
Cool.
Congratulations. I live not far from your half way point.
When did you start the AT?
Jan 11
Came to the same conclusion about lightweight rain jackets. Out of curiosity what is the temperature there and what layers keep you warm.
During recent rain temps have been in the 40s & 50s, and windy. On this day I had a hoody & a fairly heavy wool shirt on, & wool leggings.
Thanks, when the temps drop here in Australia I'll experiment with clothing combinations.
What is the new raincoat?

@@5StackHikes Thanks, definitely not where you want to scrimp on money.
Hypothermia sucks BTDT.

NOT to play with. Should of checked first. Keep on Trucking!
