  • We now have chicks coming and a deadline to meet! It's all so exciting to see our little homestead growing!
    Welcome to our High Desert Homestead where we inspire the dreamers to make big plans in small spaces! We have lived in four different U.S. States over the past eight years. In that time I learned to cook from scratch, bake with sourdough, and grow gardens wherever we lived. I grew blueberry bushes at a rental where I couldn’t “garden,” I grew tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, beets, radishes and flowers on our apartment balcony, I grew herb gardens in sunny window sills, and began my journey towards growing our homestead on our one acre property here in the high desert.
    Let’s learn and grow together wherever we are on our homestead journey!

    Homemade chicken pot pie, absolutely love pot pies and I know that a homemade one would be very delicious. When our daughter was in grade school many years ago and then when her daughter and son were in grade school, we did the 4H chicken projects. Our (20) each time were day old chickens which we started out in our garage with the proper lighting and heat and then out to a coop and run when they were ready for that. Six of the chickens were required to be sold at an auction to raise funds for the program and we could do whatever we wanted with the remaining ones. We didn't need or really have room for 14 each time so we sold them to local farmers who were more than glad to buy chickens almost ready to start laying. It was a great learning experience for all involved and it felt good giving them the experience of having responsibilities raising them. Years later I bought 6 chicks myself which I raised to be back ;yard egg layers and enjoyed their production for a few years until a predator found a way into the run and unfortunately ended my chicken venture. Still have a love for farm raised eggs, so now buy them from local farmers when I can find them available. Winter months slow down the production so I anxiously await the farmers market soon coming. Your progress on your coop and run are looking great. Shouldn't take too much time to finish it and have it ready for your future flock.

      @@highdeserthomesteader ...🧖 Someone commented that Israel will be punished for defended them selves .. I found a promise for Israel about forgiveness ...
      Joel 3.18 ... "Then you will know that I, the LORD your God,
      dwell in Zion, my holy hill.
      Jerusalem will be holy;
      never again will foreigners invade her.
      18 "In that day the mountains will drip new wine,
      and the hills will flow with milk;
      all the ravines of Judah will run with water.
      A fountain will flow out of the LORD's house
      and will water the valley of acacias.
      19 But Egypt will be desolate,
      Edom a desert waste,
      because of violence done to the people of Judah,
      in whose land they shed innocent blood.
      20 Judah will be inhabited forever
      and Jerusalem through all generations.
      21 Their bloodguilt, which I have not pardoned,
      I will pardon."
      The LORD dwells in Zion!
