    I want to update the tier list.
    Move vultures 1 to D tier.
    Vultures 2 is F tier in competition for the worst album of 2024.
    TLOP stays exactly where it is, still mid.

      Exactly. I do the same thing, except I spend closer to an hour or two searching before switching over.
      I like playing with a world map mod, so exploring tends to lead to discovering things on the map that I can go to later without chunk base, which helps avoid searching for multiple biomes in different playsessions.
      But still, finding biomes is pretty tedious in the base game.

    One of the best things they've done recently is the Azalea trees on top of lush caves. I've always thought this was so elegant because you can just be exploring, see an Azalea tree, and know that your exploration downward there will bear fruit if you're looking for lush caves. I want more of this for sure, in game stuff to kind of give me a general region to explore.

    That mechanic it's in the game actually 😅 surprisingly most of the players didn't know about it
    This a text from Minecraft wiki :
    "When dolphins are fed raw cod or raw salmon, they swim to the nearest shipwreck, buried treasure, or ocean ruins. Because they are locating the chest in the structures rather than the structures themselves, breaking the chests causes the dolphin to locate a new structure with intact chests. Dolphins also avoid guardians and elder guardians."

    • @UnderscoreFyro
      @UnderscoreFyro 7 месяцев назад +4

      I actually didn't realize it led to the chests itself. From what I knew of dolphins it only led to a shipwreck, and to the structure itself rather than said chests. Good to know!

    • @benshulz4179
      @benshulz4179 18 дней назад +18

      except those are the three easiest structures to find in the game; They spawn underwater and so are never hidden behind terrain/treeline, and boat travel is fastest travel method without even costing hunger.
      It's a fun mechanic to find for sure, but it's more of an easter egg, as nothing in the game points towards it, unlike eyes of ender which is in the recipe book and has advancements related to it.

  • @camcam_burger
    @camcam_burger 7 месяцев назад +2068

    In Jeb's game design book, there's a page titled "finding things is fun, searching for them is not", so I'm glad the developers keep it in mind when designing new content. Personally I would love it if lodestones were used more in world - fortresses and bastions could contain compasses pointing to each other, referencing a past rivalry. And there could be compasses leading to structures in the nether that have a portal to an ancient city. So the way you find them is more mysterious than a map, but you will still eventually find them.

    • @DIMM4_
      @DIMM4_  7 месяцев назад +290

      I just found the book, and in that section he refers to the woodland mansions and eyes of ender, two of the very few structures that actually have a way to find them. Kinda a weird slight of hand, but I guess the book is more about the best parts, rather than reflecting on what could be better
      But I mean he does say that exploring should be rewarding, and that they, "should also make sure that we give players a reasonable way of finding things." And that I definitely agree with. Reasonable is the perfect word for what I want, but it never crossed my mind when making this video.

      I mean finding the Fortress to me is part of the challenge of conquering the Nether it wouldn't be nearly as Satisfying to get the victory over the Nether with a compass that points me in the exact right direction, I guess I would never have to do that but it's the fact that if people wanna progress FAST they'll always take the most easily accessible method to doing that and not engage themselves in the experience of hunting down a Bastion and a Nether fortress ,

    At 5:18 - I clicked on this video with that same “I’ve never heard of chunkbase, who’s using this” mindset cause I’d never heard of it before. But the moment you showed what it was, I realized “wait I used a downloaded mod equivalent of the site’s exact purpose years ago.” For the most part, I enjoy the exploration aspects of Minecraft, so I don’t mind looking for most biomes. But the biggest problem to me is that slime chunks ONLY exist in the seed’s map data. Like why gatekeep the spawn mechanic of a basic mob, just put it in the F3 menu or something instead of making us use an external tool.

      a new player will be confused as hell when their mine has slime problem, and even more so when they make a new world and can't find slimes even underground. Removing slime chunks and replacing them with biome-specific spawns, like in lush caves, or in a new "slime cave" biome, would just make more sense.

    • @Extramrdo
      @Extramrdo 7 месяцев назад +37

      Doc actually reverse engineers the seed using the way some structures spawn. Like, on a multiplayer server, you can download a mod that reads in structures near you, and after collecting enough you can use that to calculate the seed. Best way is to boat around an ocean and find like 8 monuments or shipwrecks.
      nah actually Doc's *fanbase* reverse engineered the seed using incidental footage he took while looking for a 1-high bedrock in the nether ceiling, because having the coordinates and how a small section of bedrock spawns is enough, because the hivemind is wild. (For season 9, when Xisuma explicitly said in the leadup he wasn't going to release the seed so the hermits can still have a few surprises).

      What's wild is that a 5x5 of 1 layer of bedrock with the coords is enough to do so. (I saw a video explaining it once)
      I was even more surprised that i knew something about technical Minecraft before Doc knew. (Thanks RUclips algorithm)
      Season 9 was all about having a blind seed, and some good came of it, but it also clearly showcases the chunk base problem. It is simply so impractical to find certain essential things without throwing the seed into chunkbase.
      Some of these items are easier to find now, like slimechunks in the massive caves, but overall too many biomes can only be found by aimlessly wandering until you stumble upon them, with no guarantee of them even existing close to spawn. Yeah he has absolutely no idea how genetics work lol, but then again the video leans too much towards complaining about having to explore, which is honestly a problem of its own at this point since so many people seem to suffer with that.
      Other than slime chunks which indeed are absolutely awful to find, this mindset of "I need a guaranteed reward to explore otherwise exploring is not worth it" is something people have been putting themselves through nowadays.
      Just enjoy the game, go out there, explore, fight your way through the night because you forgot you needed to kill those sheep to make a bed earlier, appreciate all the different landscapes, let the music drive you forward, let yourself disconnect from reality a bit and just do whatever you want.
      Play for fun, not for the grind of needing to play for the progression and convincing yourself that if there isnt an objective reward you shouldn't explore the world, that you need to build a big farm for everything.
      I'm not saying a sense of progression is bad either or denying how annoying it is when you're building something and want a different kind of wood that you haven't yet acquired, especially when you get unlucky and don't find the biome so easily, but he even mentioned that we're soon getting maps to lead us to biomes so he acknowledges Mojang is already adressing the issue anyways.
      When we stop thinking so much about the next item we need and just enjoy our time through the world, one biome at a time until we get where we want, it gets much more enjoyable.

      spending hours upon hours, traveling for thousands of blocks, just makes the process of finding tedious and will quickly elliminate the fun factor. wandering aimlessly hoping to randomly find what you're looking for does not feel rewarding, it feels like a chore. whatever reward for finding something cool or useful is easily negated by the frustration of not finding the one thing you were looking for and desparately need. this video makes an excellent example with slime. there's a wide array of machines/farms you just cannot build without slime. so for what reason should finding it be so difficult? again, this ruins the gameplay experience. you can have all the other blocks/items you need for a project, and that one key item/block you either cannot find or cannot obtain will sour the mood.
      "there's a greater sense of reward!" is the same logic for "one block at a time". there are next to no methods to cause any sort of change to multiple blocks at once. and contrary to what jeb may believe, this is actually not fun at all when dealing with larger projects. hence why nearly every single technical mod or datapack has at least one method of modifying multiple blocks at once. players actually *don't* enjoy the other way.
      it's one thing to spend time, it's another to sqaunder it. and no small amount of minecraft's current gameplay loop and design cause/encourage flat-out wasting time.

    My general philosophy with Minecraft is that whenever I spawn in a new world, I try to do as much as I can with the resources that I do have, before exploring outwards. I spawn in a forest? Cool, I have tons of wood! I spawn on top of a mountain? Cool, I have tons of stone and iron. I spawn in a desert? Less cool, but still, I have tons of sand and with a bit of luck I can find a temple or a village to get me started. By playing this way, every seed gives a unique challenge, and I'll start exploring only after I feel like I have nothing else to do around the spawn area. Am I missing a key resource? Tough luck, I'll find it eventually, as my "domain" expands naturally. Until then, going without it is part of the challenge of survival. I remember one time when I was looking for sheep to make a bed, but no matter how hard I tried, there wasn't a single sheep for miles around spawn. I could have explored further away and I would have surely found one eventually, but instead I stayed at spawn and kept playing anyway, and that led me to create an awesome underground base that would allow me to spend the nights safely and not suffer too much from the constant barrage of phantoms. It was a cool challenge.
    If you rush to the end, you'll miss so much of the fun little things that the survival Minecraft experience can give you.

When biome placement was a little more chaotic, it was easier to find different biomes by just wandering around. with forests, I think there are too many very samey variants of them, that spawn too often, and too close together - such that you have to sift through what feels like way too many forests just to find an actually interesting biome.

What would be really cool is if when you find a wandering trader, you can ask him to like find a certain item or certain biome and bring a certain amount of that item or a map of where the biome is back to you, then after like a few days he returns back and now you know where that biome is. And then it would be cool if there is a larger chance to find a wandering trader in a village, because they may be like stopping there for the night or to trade with other villagers, that way you have a more reliable way to find these wandering traders.

    First, make villages rarer and bigger. Right now they're over plentiful with not enough reward to finding them. Then, make long trade route between villages. Maybe wandering villagers can be found more often at trading posts along these routes, giving a more consistent way to find them. Then add small branching paths that can take you to nearby structures.
    Like I said idk exactly if this would work, but I think it'd help with the game's storytelling while providing a more practical way to discover structures

    9:47 I mean, they already did that with dolphins. If you feed them fish they will guide you to an ocean ruin or a shipwreck, but why stop there with only dolphins doing that? Like you can have cats and dogs doing that. If you feed a tamed cat a raw rabbit piece on a desert, they guide you to a desert temple and if you feed a dog bone meal they guide you towards a fossil or a skeleton dungeon. Hell, the possibilities are kinda endless, like feeding a fox a glow berry will guide you towards an azalea tree and feeding it a normal berry will guide you towards a cherry groove

    Another notable flaw with chunkbase is that there isn't (as far as I'm aware) any way to see which version of the game each chunk in your world was generated in, and basically every update tweaks world generation a little bit. So if you've carried your world over only a single version, chunkbase will probably look totally inaccurate and you will get very, very confused. I've settled for using the F3 pie charts to find things even though they're also fairly cheaty, just because they accurately tell you if you're near something (a mob, entity, block entity, etc.) and doesn't tell you how to get straight there so you still have to explore.

    I usually just go exploring without intension to find specific biom or structure, and map out everything the way

    Hermitcraft didn't use chunk base last season because they didn't want access to the seed, for every other season the seed has been public

    Honestly, slimes should just be a regular night mob. They are overly rare for the utility their drop has.

    I've known about the villager breeding mechanic for years (that it's 50/50 if they clothes are inherited or based on biome), it's probably just that people don't have a need to talk about it so it feels like no one knows it haha
    And it's WAY better than biome-based clothes. Now you can bring a single villager from far away and still get many other ones with the same clothes. Sure, it's less deterministic, but then you then have so many more options

    On my current world I used chunk base to find the nether fortress after an eternity of looking but generally it does take me out of a world to use it. Currently I’m at a loss looking for a desert in my world but I think I’m gonna do it the old fashioned way, just happening upon one eventually.
