One day is determined by the rotation of a planet around itself, years exists because of stars, so the day the last star dies, it will be new years eve to a year that goes on for all eternity
1 billion years is a very long time and I'm fully aware I'll be dead in about 80. But when you say that it's the last 20% of our sun's life, I have a slight existential crisis.
Getting into bed and accidentally click on this video.. ''one day the last star will die, and the universe will turn dark forever'' Me: ahhhhh (closes eyes and sinks blissfully into pillow)
This narrator is just absolutely stunning! I could listen to him droning on and on for hours or listen to bedtime stories read by him. It's just so calming.
For those who are sad The last dwarf will die out, slowly, and soon bursts and goes out of existance. But it's not that bad. Think of it as your mom turning off the lights in your bedroom and going to sleep. After a while, you'll wake up, and it is morning. After a long time, something will come, and the universe will begin again. Soon, as time goes on, it's time to go to sleep again. Time to turn the lights off. The last star will die, and the universe will rest again. And soon, it'll wake up again.
@mikejacobs14 Well, if the end of the universe is the opposite of the Big Bang, then Emerald's right. The Big Crunch, the opposite of the Big Bang, is when the universe becomes so large it can't expand anymore, and instead starts to contract. Black holes begin to come closer and closer together, eating all the matter and becoming bigger. They then start to combine because they're being pushed together, and form into the biggest supermassive black hole to ever exist, which finally eats the last of the matter. The black hole finally dies due to Hawking radiation, and then the universe sits still for a few seconds before another Big Bang occurs, creating the universe anew. Same universe, same explosion. It's possible that everything will form just like it did with the last copy, and the copy before it, and the copy before it, etc. etc. (That idea is the most beautiful theory on how the universe will end because the rest usually involve the universe getting too big to support regular matter and everything gets ripped apart 'n stuff.)
For anyone who didn’t understand the convective part: Stars fuse hydrogen in their cores. More massive stars only fuse hydrogen in their cores, so only the core hydrogen can be available for fusion, even though there is many hydrogen in the outer layer that can’t be fused unless it reaches the core. Red dwarfs, however, are able to mix the gas, bringing in fresh hydrogen from the outer layer to the core so it can be used for fusion. That way, they don’t waste so much fuel and so they are able the last longer. They also burn slower, making their fuel last even longer.
+Quake but think about this... things that happened still happened, right? in that case, things that will happen happened, because in the future, it has happened. therefore, the universe would still be real, we would have just flowed past it in time
It really is true that we are insignificant to the rest of the universe, like the video mentioned "everything has to end someday" which I couldn't agree more, all humans will one day be gone from the phase of the universe, black holes will begin to evaporate and even red dwarfs will slowly turn off their lights. Yet before that, we have time to leave our mark behind, to get to spectacular point in history before we all part.
I love everything about your video production, but I feel compelled to thank you specifically for the fun little Easter eggs you put in them, like the Little Prince's rose! We are all, after all, a planet which is "mostly harmless", so being reminded to find humor in such topics that may be the cause of existential crises in some people really helps.
Probably because it's talking about the end of basically everything, and though the end is absurdly far off, it's not fun to know that at some point everything will end no matter what we do.
I don't know I find these things to the opposite yah the universe dosen't care about us yes it was not just meant for us to live yes we are tiny in comparison to most things but just think about it we were able to figure that out it gives me great hope for humanity that despite our insignificance to the larger picture if the universe we were able to figure out a great deal about universe and that even though we can't find any meaning in the universe we can find it in us that we matter because we think and agree that we matter that are life has meaning because we give it that
You kidding me? We're amazing. If other races don't do it before us, we're the only hope this universe has of surviving. Look how far we've come technologically in 500 years or so. Give us a tiny, tiny fraction of 500 million years and we've got this existence thng on lock. We've got less than a billion left on Earth. There are dozens of ways we can save Earth from being cooked by the brightening of the sun long before then. All life on Earth needs us, and it's sad that we'll end up killing a lot of it before we figure out how. Even now we can bring back many recently extinct species, only governmental law and conservationalists won't let us yet.
@@gmork1090 a few billion years before the sun kicks the bucket is nothing. Nothing to the universe there are trillion quadrillions or more galaxies and planets you are nothing just a spec of dust on the size of the universe aliens probably exist there are so many planets out there how could they not? We are pretty much nothing.
it's a "star" that failed to fuse the hydrogen inside. And not to say it's basically a useless gas. Gravity so weak, they can't hold a planet. Give a planet so close that it could orbit, it will burn them to crisp. A bit further it will be cold as at least pluto. And not to mention the planet would fly off out of the star gravity effect.
Also, if you bought a car, but you found out you can't start it no matter how much fuel you throw because the combustion system is defective, would you: a. report it to your dealer and demand for replacement unit, b. love it?
i love how our galaxy started with many explosions and will die calm and relaxed. kind of similar to life and death on Earth. We are born with screaming and crying and die peacefully and calm (for the most part)
My brother died crying and screaming because he got killed in a freak accident where a metal pipe was lodged into his intestines. It's been 10 years...
I'm probably going to die in extreme pain very very slowly... most likely tortured in some crazy guys sound proof room. You can prob watch it on the dark web.
I live in Florida and yes, it is living hell. Hot, humid, mosquitos, gators, snakes, roaches, hurricanes, weird ass criminals, awful traffic, and it’s all gonna be underwater in a hundred years.
Pfff I'd be fine even if it's hot aslong as one day it's not burning hot and fires break out and the next day it's freezing cold with snow consider yourself lucky you don't live in Oklahoma
500 years ago it was absurd to think that us mere humans could fly for a sustained period of time, let alone go into outer space. If we don't kill ourselves before then, then the limitations of science are endless

+pitfallseed The only reason they make me depressed is because I won't be able to live long enough to see all of this happen. WE GOTTA GET OUR BRAINS INTO ROBOTS PEOPLE!
I remember when I was young "I don't wanna die I want to live where poeople are immortal" There's no way to beat life you will die no matter what. Just enjoy your life while you can.
Wilbur Holton do you really think everyone's going to get a cure for aging just like that.there will obviously be a price and it's not worth it. You'll most likely have depression because majority of your friends in your lifetime (the universe does end remember) won't be able to afford this and you'll attend alot of funerals before you end up dehydrated, starve or die due to any other cause.
the goat, depression ends, no matter what the price is it would be worth it, as if you are immortal you can pay off any amount of debt, and I don't think you can starve, get dehydrated, etc etc if you're digitally immortal, which would be the most likely form of immortality for those of us that are currently alive, as genetic modification would only really work on unborn children.
+BlobVanDam Let's be a little more optimistic and say "Evolution" - by the time our sun becomes too dangerous for us we could very well be so different from what we are now that we won't be actual "humans" anymore.
I really like the accent it's very clear and understandable. The graphics is insane it took many hours to put together and with these graphics I understand easily. thank you for this educational video 🥰
Imagine being alive right before the last red dwarf is about to burn out. Whatever species is still alive at that point is gonna have to (figuratively) sit back, hold hands, and watch the end of the universe. By that time though, those species would be robots so they won't feel depressed about it, unless robots by that time are so sophisticated that they'll feel human emotions too.

I like how this channel is always optimistic about our future, always diving into the what if's of becoming a multi-stellar race, colonizing our entire galaxy, and surviving for billions of years onwards. I won't be around for that, but if someone in a billion years looks back on this when they visit what's left of Earth to examine the remains of our civilization, I'd like to put this out: Good job, you made it.
... a great deal of blind people can still perceive light... not all are in total darkness. You can be "legally blind" and still perceive objects moving around you, even if you don't know exactly what they might be.
Why? You will be dead in the blink of an eye compared to the timespan he is talking about.Stop worrying about irrelevant stuff to your life.Compared to this climate change is way more relevant to ur future generation's existence and yours.
I really like how incredibly optimistic he is about humans advancing in science fast enough and good enough to actually find another planet to live on and actually thrive long enough to make a society on.

Feels very Dark Souls, honestly, and makes me tear up. The flames will fade...and only dark..will remain ;~; felt super sad on that scene of the last dwarf dying out.
Well I'm annoyed by brown dwarfs cuz they r a grew spot between a star n a planet the same for black dwarfs half star half planet not really a star no more but not really a planet
That's not the right number but even if it was, it wouldn't be too bad. If you look at how whats happened the last 100 years alone you'll see it is a LOT
Ice Trex yea man, we invented a lot of things that changed the world. Global Instant Communication, Rockets, Satellites, Electric Transportation, Airplanes, and that's just to name a few. A lot of scientific discoveries have taken place since the year 1900. For example, the famous Stanley Miller and Harold Urey experiment.
Since the Andromeda Galaxy comes close and will crash into ours (dont worry it may sound bad but it does no damage at all) we might find a hell lot of other planets there. Since we developed space flight to moon and even mars soon in just 100 years, we will probably be flying cyborgs that dont need air in 1 billion years.

not even delay by then there will be a new species more advanced than us we consider the previous species homeo erectus neanderthals not humans so the next specials may stop calling themselves humans
+Alan Fox Yes and no. The Sun will undergo fusion successfully for another 5 billion years in theory, but it may expand long before that. At any rate, life on Earth will almost certainly cease somehow before that. Plate tectonics don't last forever, magnetic fields don't last forever, and asteroids are a thing.
we got this far with a small fraction of people advancing technology the people you see in comment sections are just the masses not the ones making changes for human technology that's why Facebook is so popular

Nothing to the universe there are trillion quadrillions or more galaxies and planets you are nothing just a spec of dust on the size of the universe aliens probably exist there are so many planets out there how could they not? it's a "star" that failed to fuse the hydrogen inside. And not to say it's basically a useless gas. Gravity so weak, they can't hold a planet. Give a planet so close that it could orbit, it will burn them to crisp. A bit further it will be cold as at least pluto. And not to mention the planet would fly off out of the star gravity effect.
Also, if you bought a car, but you found out you can't start it no matter how much fuel you throw because the combustion system is defective, would you:
a. report it to your dealer and demand for replacement unit,
b. love it?
i love how our galaxy started with many explosions and will die calm and relaxed.
kind of similar to life and death on Earth. We are born with screaming and crying and die peacefully and calm (for the most part)

True
+David John Whats wrong with being optimistic?
+_Ubuntu Nah, the opposite.
500 years ago it was absurd to think that us mere humans could fly for a sustained period of time, let alone go into outer space. If we don't kill ourselves before then, then the limitations of science are endless

Me-too.-I-cried-over-a-video-of-a-guess-in-the-future.
Wilbur Holton idk why kurzgesagt highlighted your comment because he knows that we won't survive after the universe ends.

I hope you are wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.
May be it will be the best time to live - no wars, everyone unites to meet the same faith and who knows what great technologies they will have?
Rooper K Impossible As Long As Humans Have Differences There Will Never Be Peace We Would Have To Agree On Everything And As Major Philosophers Say If No One Questions Someone Isn't Thinking
Why is every word in your sentence capitalized?
It's quite possible that robot will be able to feel human emotion in near future probably won't take billions of years until the end of the universe
LuneTech By that point you won't actually see the Universe. All you would see would be the combined Milkdromeda Galaxy, due to the way the universe itself expands and light redshifts.
