I would say the closest modern day equivalent is beyonce, who is pretty much universally loved. I think part of it is because it was before everyone had 🛜 and so it was easier for one single group to make a bunch of money.

Northern Star is one of the best albums of its era. The lyrics, the melodies, the futuristic vision, and Melanie’s unique voice make it a true pop masterpiece! Every single track is perfect.. it's a no-skip album even today.
We need the Spice Girls (ALL OF THEM) back together now more than ever. They did the UK stadium shows, they need to do the Las Vegas Sphere. It’s literally made to be a globe with a giant Spice Girls ring on it!
Only if they perform something that is not pure pop, not written for them by a commercial team nor co-written with any such team. Maybe something either written by or co-written with a homegrown artist, a grassroots musician known for writing and performing their own songs.
