Great and informative video. You should have explained how artist can own their masters like who pays for studio time, engineers, producers, writers etc determines who owns the masters or what share of it they own.
I was not looking for your video, but I'm glad I watched it! Thanks man, you're great. Using REAL examples talks always more than anything. Keep posting! 🎶🙏👍
This was brilliant. your are amazing, great style with the delivery, informative, and inspirational. you provided the look into the slavery these corporations have designed. the break down was really intelligent. your definitely top notch. i have to say, west really is in slavery, there is a line that no contract should be able to be written for, everything that the contract states is beyond normal conduct. west made money separately, but what about the rest, they are working and living off the advance, which will be taken back, that means their paying the bills for everything within the advance. these companies stand to make billions. they should be covering the cost, and guarantying a advance for profits, that you wont have to pay back whether you hit that mark or not, plus you profits over that. i do want to say this, when a record label hires you, it’s work for hire. you don’t own rights to anything. it’s just like when someone pays another to make a beat, if the contract is just for the payment they discussed, then that’s it. they own the beat, and all income from it when it’s released, the beat maker only gets the money they negotiated. so a lot of people are hire as work for hire, so they don’t own rights to anything, and i would not give them, because that’s the business, they don’t own anything from it, they just get paid what they are contracted to get paid. they need to understand that there is nothing wrong with that business structure, but they need to know what they are looking to do. be your own artist and sell your own music, or make music in a work for hire circumstance and get paid in advance, but don’t own any rights to anything. it’s that simple. if a home owner hired a contractor to build the house, he doesn’t own it, and after the price goes up, he has no rights to the profits, just what he got paid to build. so know the two paths, one do it yourself with help from others and companies that can help you get their, or take the easy path and get paid in advance to provide content for the label, which you will not own, it’s work for hire. These labels need to start treating people like humans beings, especially since they are profiting from their efforts, even if it’s paid for, it’s the decency in living, being, you only do certain things when you have to defend yourself, i’m sure none of these circumstances warranted this kind of treatment.
I'm 31 and don't care for a lot of modern music, judge me if you will, its ok. I just think you should have brought up Jimi Hendrix though. His stress levels and lack of sleep were completely due to his contracts. His story is quite a sad one and all he wanted was to make deep music and help the world but the industry attacked his soul almost immediately upon hitting the music scene in london. The music industry killed Jimi Hendrix, and as some have said, we should all know by now. Its been how long since Hendrix became famous and these bright young artists fall into the trap everytime to this day.
Hey Fear The Kid, Yes you will, you will own all of your royalties and copyrights, and we will distribute your music to all of the main music platforms plus more.
Quick question. Someone wants to buy the masters to my songs for a measly amount just so they're able to shop the EP to labels etc. Am i obliged to sell it to them or can i say no? Is it possible to co-own the masters with them instead?
Hi! No you're definitely NOT obliged to sell your masters to anyone. You could sell them a share of your master rights in return for them helping to promote your music or manage your career. It all depends how much you trust this person and whether they'll realistically be able to help you progress. Only you can make that decision, but make sure to get any contracts checked over by a lawyer before signing anything away.
@@dittomusic Ditto music you owe me $900 in back Royals. I was never paid. why do you take royals from you own customers & use Bots as the excuse when i used a legit company who use Spotify ads. Geek Music Marketing cant manipulate Spotify Algorithm. Ditto never send me any takedown notice that they are supposed to do. It was all hear say.
