Thank you for the useful tip me and my girl are looking forward to trek to Everest base camp so we are gathering all the information we can. Stay safe !
Good video dude. Nice calm way of doing things rather than the panic you see in others. Going in 5 weeks so definitely helpful. Respect.
Man man man .... positive energy all over the place! Usefull content and cool how you brought it!
Looking forward to more of your vids!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Patrick! Stay tuned for more fun and Happy Monday to you!
I watched this almost two years ago. Now I just rewatched it before my upcoming trekking because I remembered it as one of the most useful packing videos and wanted to see if I still agreed with it, and amazingly I do! Still an amazing video and comes highly recommended for everyone who is going on a first trip!
Thanks my man!! Hope you have fun on your adventure, you'll love it!
Great video! I go to Nepal each year, but just launched my channel and this is the first year I will be documenting everything. I have published my first few Everest videos on the channel but "hope" to upload 40-50 more Everest "how to" videos in the next year. LOVE what you have done here! Great job!
Been watching again and again over the years....best info and entertaining. Thx so much for all the work that goes into those vids.
Thanks Ryan, I'm soo excited fir my trip. Good info and advice cheers!
You are gonna love it!
Loved your video and your approach with the packing light
Thanks!
Excellent video Ryan! So informative. I never hiked before but I am going to in near future. Information and tips you gave for packing, helped me :)
Great! Glad that this video could help
Dude. You are my hero! Have fun!
Isaac White Charlie Brown is my hero!!
awesome! i just finished watching all your nepal video's and i must say im inspired!
so next year it's my turn! greetings from Belgium!
Hey Ryan I am impressed the way you presented Nepal and the EBC trekking! Regards, bro!
This is the BEST video!
Hey Ryan, just love your positive energy ...have totally enjoyed all your videos...really inspiring !!! I leave for Nepal in a few days to do the Three High Passes, your're also a pretty funny guy....thanks for the entertainment, inspiration & tips!!!
Kerry Bromage you are gonna LOVE IT!!! Nepal is magical. Thanks for the kind words:)
Haha love your energy, I'm going back in a few weeks for the second time. I'm so excited too! Nepal is definitely up there with my fave countries.
Do you go on your own? Or do you take tours?
One additional observation. Most places in Nepal do not accept damaged or old US bills so take brand new, straight from the bank notes to exchange for rupees
Love your energy...This was the funnest...yes that's a word..travel video I have seen...not to mention uber informative..glad I stumbled on your channel will check out more...off to run Everest base camp marathon next month...won't forget my icebreaker, monayyyy, iodine and journal...keep on trekkin the world
Cool! I wanna run that marathon someday! Good luck
Found your information helpful and easy to note down. Thanks!
Great! Thanks for watching and have a great time on your journey!
Ryan you are fantastic to watch! I watched your whole trek to EBC and felt like I was right there with you. My friend and I are doing the EBC Trek in early October and I was hoping you would recommend a portable water filter. Thank you for any guidance! Love your videos!
Thanks Rebecca for watching! You are gonna love the trek, it's pure magic...and WAY better in real life than in my videos :) I didn't have a water filter, i'd get water at the tea houses everday and fill up my camelback...I also used some iodine tablets here in there in the wild...they are WAY lighter than a filter. Have fun!
Thank you for visiting our country. Thank you so much for such a beautiful video.
Very thorough subbed for my new treks approaching
Thanks Erik! I'm always making new adventure vids, so stay tuned!
Awesome list! That Mavic is out of my price range but OH SO tempting to get those majestic aerials. Heading to Kathmandu in a month and you got me even more stoked to go! Adventure on, dude!
You are gonna love it out there! Have fun
I'm packing right now to depart in 1 day for my EBC trek, Apr 2017. I'm taking my Mavic, but getting the legal permit is just about impossible if you're not in country at least a week before you plan to operate. Supposedly the permit is free, but you have to get so many different letters of 'security' and such.
No one seems to be able to arrange a permit before I arrive, so I have little choice but to just not get the permit.
What was your experience using it, getting the permit, if applicable, and the performance of it in the high altitude?
did you never be afraid when you are in the mountains ??.
Sir you can check this interesting link ruclips.net/channel/UCfL02HhJUmTXHX7OV8qT0oA
Drone! Nice lists. Thank you~
Lovely video. Thanks for the useful tips.
Thanks for watching!
I will.thanks for the positive vibes 😁
You got it!
this video just made my day,,,, amazing n informative
Thanks!
Excellent video. I agree 100% with the merino wool thing. It's a miracle fabric that helped keep me sane. Soft and snuggly. Thumbs up on your list. I added a polyester liner sock inside the wool socks. Didn't get a single blister on two trips to Nepal. My only issue, I will confess, is I basically bring what you bring, but multiples of each. I had a Sherpa porter/guide helping me out but it still brought me guilt.
It's ok to hire a local porter, it can really help the people! Thanks for watching Kyle!
Oh, it's great to support the locals through hiring porters/guides. I felt guilt about the weight of the pack I gave him to carry. :)
excited to see what you do ~ awesome !
Sacred Thyme me too!!! :)
soo excited for your adventure i could not sleep ~ rewatching your adventures to ignore 2am spine pain. so dang excited as this trip seems super important in your life path for some reason! i am gonna meditate some good vibe to that 3 top trec-mountains. Woohoo! breathe deeply as wim hoff has got me breathing & you got me dreaming to move my body more. thanx Ryan. Much Love ~
Oh yeah baby! Need to do some shopping, fun times ahead. Love to walk amongst natures beauty. Last trek was in Sri Lanka and India 2015.
Fun times ahead for sure! Go get it!
Great vid! that was helpful!
Thanks! Have fun
safe travels bro , I love that beanie with the bike logo .
Orlando Martinez thanks buddy!
Light sounds good
Good one mate, agreed on best place , 3rd visit coming soon...see you over there one day , yeew
Ayy!! Showers Pass! Love that gear!
Christopher Habib me too! They're the best!!
This video is so good
Thank you!
Very Cool Video Ryan! u've done exactly the same trekks i have. and i must say i agree with everything you said in the video. Also going back in Oktober for a Everest base camp trekk. I will buy a Go Pro for next time im there and try to make something similar like Vblog. Maybe i will see u there someday !
Very cool! Have a great trip and I look forward to seeing your content
wowie, 10/10 editing
hi ryan i watched your three passes trek videos and loved them ! i'm going in mid september and doing the same trek cant wait !
one question , those sun glasses you took were they just regular sun glasses ? or a special pair for the high altitude ? thanks
Enjoy you laughter soooo much - unable to sleep as severe pain & unable to travel (as spine injury as infant from parental use)
Just LOVE your Laugh & adventures = LOVE your running & adventures. so fun & awesome - much LOVE. watched again as i love your fun silly & excitement = have a blast Ryan! awaiting you FUN ~ oh the lady below wants to go!
Sacred Thyme oh no! Hope you feel better soon! Stay tuned for fun videos from Nepal!!
Hey mate, great video! How difficult was the three passes trek? Did you find you were warm enough? Cheers man
Best "how to gear up video"...congratz!
Thanks buddy!
Hey Ryan! Thank you so much for this awesome video:) what kind of sleeping bag you used? Cheers from Colombia! Hope to see you here someday! Abrazos!
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for sharing your tips with us here on youtube. I'm thinking of doing Annapurna Circuit in October, but i'm inclined on doing it solo. Is it possible? Also how did you feel in high altitude? was it problematic? Also how many aclimatization days did you do and where along the trek?
Thanks!
Jolly good video.
you are right about wool!
This is as helpful as it is hilarious. Thank you for sharing, I’m definitely getting woolundies for my first trek to highland China!
Enjoy your adventure!!!
Welcome in Nepal again bro,
I’ll be back
Have fun! Kongma La is the hard. No fire wood in the NP only Yak poop. A smart phone is nice for wifi/camera cheap SIM.
Wow really Nice
Ryan, I really enjoy watching your videos! Love your personality! :)
Did u get vaccinated prior to going to Nepal? If yes, what vaccinations dis u get? Thanks.
Thanks!! I didn't get any vaccines, don't need em for Nepal. Hope you get to go and experience the magic
Ryan, Namaste from Nepal. You are always wellome in Nepal.Keep on visiting us.
MrLive2love I hope to come back many more times, I love Nepal!
Passing through national geographic magazine was nice ☝️ 🤗
Thanks for the videos, inspiring! Just curious, but what do you do for food while hiking? Villages have options to buy for stocking up for a day, or two?
Yep, you can buy all your food in the villages
Awesome! I'll be in Nepal after my next connecting flight! I'll be taking on the Everest Marathon, the world's highest marathon. This list was very helpful! Thank you!
I'll be documenting every bit of my journey so if you all would like to come check it out and let me know what you think, I would greatly appreciate it!
You are gonna love it!!! Good luck in the marathon! I'll be watching
Thank you very much! You're videos have been an inspiration!
Monika Paris running that is a dream of mine 👍! I hope it’s going well for you 😀
What time of year did you go? Plan on doing 3 passes in beginning of December. Is there anything else you would bring for the winter you didn't mention here? Your list seems pretty comprehensive. Also, did you get any gear in Kathmandu?
Hey Ryan! Gotta say I enjoy your videos man! We are planning a first ever trek to EBC and your videos have been really helpful!
I'm curious to whether you got all the "suggested" vaccinations?? Also, your thoughts regarding them. Thanks! Scott :)
I didn't get any vaccinations...didn't even know there were any suggested ones...not many bugs up in the high country to spread disease. have fun!
had a good chuckle at @ 7:32 !!! :D
What guide company did you use? Great vid, thanks
Very helpful video. I wonder if you used Diamox or other similar medicine to cope with High Altitude Sickness (HAS) troubles. Any other recommendation against HAS.
true speaker ☺
Nice video
heya, Ryan said to bring a small daybag for when you dont wanna carry your big guy around - to clarify we're bringing a small bag inside our larger bag just walking around when your not trekking but staying in a spot for a while? is it safe to leave your big bag in the tea houses?
5:53 yeah ryan😁😁, I'll put this for sure.😄😄
Thank you sir
Hey Ryan, Great video! However, I tried marino wool base-layer several time in different conditions. No good! Took too long to dry and didn't wear very well. Polyester is much better. Dries quickly and lasts for years. The water reservoir is good in warm climates, but once you get below zero the tube and especially the mouthpiece will freeze. Wide mouth bottles work the best. Your boots are ok, but I prefer a good quality leather boot when trekking in the Himalayas, but that's my personal choice. The rest of your gear is great! Although, I'd add sky googles and a climbing helmet. Warning about using a drone camera in Nepal: You need permission from the Civil Aviation Authority Nepal (CAAN). And foreigners have a very hard time getting permission.
Next time you decide last minute to go to Nepal - please send me a message! :) I want to go with you! Awesome video! Nepal is now on my bucket list for sure.
Sounds good my man! Nepal is the best!
sir you can check this interesting link ruclips.net/channel/UCfL02HhJUmTXHX7OV8qT0oA

go for yourself....it is super easy toget around and many speak fluent English....
me too he is an awesome guy to trek with!!
So after watching a few episodes of your trek which btw EXCELLENT videos so entertaining so immersive full spectrum culture man love it can’t wait to finish them. I’m going to Kathmandu late December and trekking to early January I’m told it’s cold -18c - 0c at night
My main question is this is really all the gear you brought?? What was final weight??
2. I loved that u just flew to lukla then walked without a guide or anything so how easy is navigation in the Everest area? I only have boot camp training for experience
3. Did you run into any problems/tips for first time trekker
Hello Paulo! It will be cold at night, but the days are pretty warm when the sun is out, many times I hiked without a jacket. I don't know about the final weight, but it was pretty light, which is what you want...heavy packs are no fun...I wore the same thing everyday, and didn't get too stinky. I'd go with less, and if you need more, you can buy all sorts of gear in Nepal in Kathmandu and namche Bazaar. You will be fine without a guide, I met tons of trekkers without guides! ENJOY!
Wooww..ur video really helpful :) did you do solo trekking to EBC?. I just finished solo trekking to ABC in October. Wanna do that in EBC if it possible :)
Yep, solo, you can do it too! enjoy
very informative, my friend, thanks for the vid! Do you do all these treks yourself or go with group of friends or likeminded people? I'd love to join the circuit trekking even though I have no prior experience :)
Hi! You don't need any experience. I did these treks alone, and met people along the way, it's a great way to learn about Nepal, but also meet people from all over the world
Hi Ryan, I know this video was posted a long time ago, but great video as always. I'm in my 60's and investigating the possibilities of an EBC trek in the future. I would more than likely use a guide service, but I was just wondering what the expenses are like there in Nepal, such as a flight to Lukla and food and lodging? Asking just in case the guide service doesn't cover these expenses. Thanks in advance.
I love your vdo and also really like your attitude. Same as me that i do visit few country in Europe and Asia even the UK but the place that i miss the most is INDIA. The only place that attracted me alot and that make me wanna go out and see Nepal. Thank you for sharing , youre amazing :)
Thanks! Nepal is incredible, hope you get to see it someday
Wonderful video..... we are planning to go for the 3 passes trek in November... We will be carrying all our gear ourselves, so want to keep it as light as possible...wondering... is it absolutely necessary to carry a sleeping bag? Or will tea houses provide us with extra blankets if we are cold? Also, do we need to carry a four season sleeping bag or something lighter will do?
it;'s not necessary as tea houses have blankets,..but just to be sure that you're warm, it's a good idea. A light bag will be fine coupled with the blankets
Gracias! :-*
thank u so much loving my country we also love u
Namaste brother!
namste brother
Hey Ryan, Love your videos of your trek, am heading their next year so was wondering what video setup you took with you aside from the drone. Really keen to know what on camera microphone you had as the sound in each video is amazing, of course so is the narrative :)
HI Michael, I used the Sony A6300 and Rode Video Micro. It's a small but solid setup! Have fun
Ryan Van Duzer thanks Ryan. Last question for you, what lens did you have on your camera 😀
I had the 10-18 wide lens and the 18-105 zoom lens
Hi Ryan, do you need any permition for your drone in Nepal?
Planning a 3 passes trek myself for April. I'm curious to what vaccinations you got for this trip? I've read a long list of what is suggested but are they all really needed? Awesome videos bud!
No vaccinations for me, you should be good without em. Thanks for watching!
take me with u :) i love the mountains. I've been to india many times but I really want to visit nepal soon. I was going to hike the anapurna trail last year but my friends bailed out last minute. Enjoy ur trip Ryan
go! meet him there ... i would if i did not have spinal injury ~ his laugh is AWEsome. i even rewatch & listen as he wound be fun to wander with. happy trails yoga lady ~
Sacred Thyme thank u for the kind words, believe me I would have been there faster than it took to type the comment if I wasn't tied down at work right now. Hope ur injury is healing, be well.
How much is a trek to EBC altogether? Contimplating this for 2019. Gives me a whole year to save and get extra time off. Are the tea houses cheap and do you pay as you go? I'd like some more pricing and info. I'd becoming from North America. Florida to be exact. Nice video btw
Tea houses are like 2 bucks a night, meals are around 3-5, all together this experience cost me less than 2k.
Thanks man sounds like the most expensive part of it would probably be airfare and any personal expenses then.
Nice
How many iodine tablets would you suggest bringing for a three week trip, and do you need actual glacier glasses for the trip or will regular sunglasses suffice? Thank you!
A couple bottles should be fine, and you can buy them there as well
and regular sunglasses are totally fine!
Awesome video! Do you recommend bringing US cash then exchanging for rupees in Kathmandu?
Jackie Blue cash works, I like using credit cards at ATMs
I can't figure out if you would be a PIA to travel with or the Greatest Travel Companion one could imagine. I'm going to take the high road (no pun intended) and declare you (as we say in Boston) A Wicked Cool guy! Safe Travels Ryan, I hope we run into each other someday (in the middle of no where)
haha, I'm pretty fun to travel with...I think :) I hope we run into eachother too! Thanks for watching amigo!
hi ryan! im one of your biggest fan out there! watched all the episodes of your trek in nepal :) i would like to ask, do we need a permit to fly a drone there?
Hi Ely! Thanks for the kind words and watching all my vids, that's a lot of content! You do technically need a permit, I did not have one though...not sure how hard it is to get one. Have a great time in Nepal, you'll love it!
thank you for your quick respone man! ill be going next year solo like you did for my 30th bday! cheers!
Perfect!
ehh ryan i will be trekking the EBC this july but im in doubt whether i will bring my drone or not. ive heard it will take a week or so for having a permit to CAAN. what dyu think brother?
I didn't get a permit, and didn't have a problem, but maybe things have changed...I'm not sure. Have fun
Do we have to get permission or licenses to fly drone in Himalaya?
I fly the racing style drones and I was considering a dji Mavic like you have for the ebc trek Im doing in December. But from some of the videos Ive seen there have been helicopters (real ones ;) flying about to rescue people so Ive decided against it. What are your thoughts? Have you flown it there??
Yeah, I flew my mavic in the EBC area, and yes, there are plenty of real helicopters too, you just have to be careful to fly when they're not around.
Good video, but UAVs(drones) are not allowed in the Everest area as they are hazardous to the numerous helis on that route.
You took a minimal sleeping bag but the trek videos show you were very cold at night a lot of the time. Would you take a heavier sleeping bag if you went again. ?
Hey Ryan, I'm off to Nepal this October. How did you get on with the magic pro, I'm thinking of taking mine. Did you have any problems??
Super easy, no problems at all
cool thanks :)
great videos by the way
Where's the link to the trekking pants? That is what I'm most concerned about. All my hiking pants are lightweight.
I forget the exact pants, they were Marmot brand...not super lightweight, but solid
Hello, good vid, you are funny too :)) What kind of lightweight sleeping bag you have and is it enough such a bag up higher where it can get very cold at night? I heard many guest houses charges a fee for extra blankets. Also whats your height and weight, what size is your down jacket?
my down is a large, my sleeping bag is made by sea to summit, it was enough in the guest houses, and blankets are always free from what I saw. i'm 5.11, 165
Wow
A couple quick questions for you... So I am pulling a last minute trip, really want to do the 3 high passes but not sure if I have enough time ( 29th of November- 13th of December, but I can push the return date back 3 or 4 days.). Everything I have been reading is saying that you should have at least 20 days. One company I was looking at said that they can do it in 17 days....after reading some of their review, I decided not to go with them. Did you go though a company ( if so, what one?) or did you just figure it out on the fly? so many questions, so little time....
Dan Kolarsick you got this! I did the Trek on my own, it’s very easy to navigate and many people go solo. I did this Trek in 15 days, and wasn’t really hustling that fast. Buy the ticket and go!!!
Hey Ryan, So I was looking out my kitchen window this morning and I saw this dude wearing a blue jacket and jeans speeding along on his bike through my neighborhood. I thought to myself. What a badass! A fellow Boulderite who also bikes in the winter! As he passed I saw that he looked just like you! Did you happen to be biking in this cold Friday morning Ryan? I live near the Valmont bike park.
Jean-Philippe Millard ha!!! I'm far far away in Nepal:) not me...this time. Cheers!
Haha ok. Have fun in Nepal =)
Hey, how fit should you be in order to go up to EBC ?, i am planning to go, i do work out, i, a couple days per week but no big deal,
Nice videos,
You'll be just fine, you don't have to be in top physical condition, and the best part, you go your own pace, no need to rush. Enjoy!
Thanks for your quick reply
Hey what about the acclimatization days for going to EBC ?, i wanna take a tour, and it lasts 12 days in total , they promote 2 acclimatization days, one in Namche Bazaar and the other in Dingboche ?, do you find it fine to avoid any sort of AMS ?
That's the basic itinerary for EBC. Very challenging, but doable. That's the way I did it.
How was it with the drone? I read you need a special license to fly a drone in Nepal. And as far I know, drones fly not over a height of 2‘500 meters over sealevel. Did yours fly in over 4‘000 or even 5‘000 meter?
I didn't get permission, but didn;t have any problems. Rules might be stricter now
how big is your backpack in litres?
great great videos...I'm thinking of taking a little trip soon I hope...
can you tell me how is the gear there that you find in local shops ? I am finding out online that most or all of that outdoor gear is usually a knockoff...but still ..is it reasonable quality ? or should I take everything with me from here ?
The gear shops are actually very good there in Nepal, you could literally buy everything you need for a trek in Kathmandu or even namche Bazar.
Hello fantistic Video. You rock
Thanks! Appreciate you watching. Check my channel for all sorts of fun adventures. Happy Thursday
