@@FirstStateFishing I have been a fan for years love the vids also I just got a new baitcaster combo and was thinking you should do a vid on how to use them it would really be helpful
@@1134JW To be honest bud, I'm 38 and I prefer baitcasters, but it's best to learn how to use them by feel. You can listen to someone instruct you on how to use one, but it's something best learned on your own. If you're nervous about backlashing it, then tighten down the knob on the side to create more drag on the reel. It's a balance between that knob and using your thumb to control the casting speed of the spool. I have a bunch of really high dollar baitcaster rigs and they have digital chip controls that you can set on the side of the reel and it'll slow or speed up the spool to reduce backlash. The best suggestion that I can give you is don't use a baitcaster for small light lures because if the lure isn't heavy enough it'll backlash for sure. Just take your time and feel it out. It took me a while to figure it out when I was a kid, but I love them now.
I had a kid start his own RUclips channel (Great Dane Outdoors) because of RUclipsrs like you, Bama, and Ron. He sees guys like you having fun in the outdoors. That’s the reason this 11yr old started his channel so he can show kids how fun the outdoors can be. He says a lot of his friends just want to play video games. He wants to show them the outdoors can be way more fun then a video game. God bless your content. Thank you for inspiring people of all ages. Keep doing what you’re doing. You get a chance check out that kids page and see what your type of inspiration has done for a 11yr old country boy. Great Dane Outdoors
Nice find. Regarding thunderstorms, I've noticed that fish usually like to bite directly before and after the heavy rain. Blocking out the sun surely helps in the summer months, but the pressure drop, rain throwing extra oxygen into the water, and the lowered temperature most certainly help.
Hey brother I gotta say I have been on the fence about starting a channel on the east coast here but I’m clueless about editing and even more clueless about operating any of these new cameras and stuff so you def have the drive to make it happen and ur also making me want to try it even more so keep up the work and yeah it’s tough fishing around the north east compared to anywhere else year round we definitely have to adjust dramatically around the seasons all the way down to the gear we drag out and dust off to go use so I know how much work you have to put into one video for sure so got my support and thanks for the entertainment
Those rods with the "butts" were called trigger-cast rods, they give you a good trip on a baitcaster. Modern baitcast rods have the same grip, it's just less pronounced
From Maine, Big fan. If you incorporated everything your doing but had a catch and cook in the end. Views would sky rocket, Especially if you included FirstStateCamper life.
If your looking for waders get a pair of orvis. I wouldn’t consider myself someone who buys expensive gear and equipment but the they are worth the price. Good material, comfy, and good customer service if you have any problems
You should try some lures from aliexpress, you can get them for literally pennies I live in England and have caught loads of pike on the knockoff whopper ploppers
@@UnseenSpirit like other antiques they will eventually gather value and all it takes is a rich collector who will pony up the money. The only trouble is rods and reels take a lot of abuse and are seldom well maintained.
Awesome vid like always!! next time you hit up a yard sale don't be hesitant to haggle brother! you can always save $5-10 or even half the price of stuff for sale:]

when you're old FS that gear will be relic and worth a lot. following your travels, watching you fish around the US. Good times.
