- EarthRanger was developed to fight elephant poaching in Africa. Now the real-time mapping software helps wildlife biologists on the Olympic Peninsula learn about pumas and the vital role they play in the ecosystem. Senior environmental correspondent Ben Tracy went deep into the rainforests of the Pacific Northwest to see how it works.

I absolutely appreciated this piece. As someone who has been out with this team, the comments about the hard work, dedication and passion involved with this project are spot on. It's nothing short of awesome!
Going up a 45 degree slope over blown down trees (bushwacking) for a few thousand feet will make a grown man cry. And in the rain, which makes everything slippery. That's why you got the expletive deleted. And it's not over. Two days later his whole body will ache from head to toe. Kudos to all involved.
It's amazing. Great planning tool.
So basically you attached an iPhone to mountain lions?
Yeh I want One!!!!

Protect habitat
I-5 (every high mph road) should require wildlife crossings in bulk.
I live in Olympia and I'm ready for wildlife crossings over I-5
@@twostop6895 Like what was built East of Snoqualmie Pass?
@@anthonybanchero3072 yep a crossing should be built South of Olympia around where that national forest is at
Hopefully poachers don't get access to data.
Great idea!
Need corridors
The problem is that the population of Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia is so dense that animal corridors just isn't visible.
Was this on Cougar Mountain?
No it was on the Olympic Peninsula
More urban forests!
🙏🌟💜👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
🙀😻
Why can't humans leave the animals alone?
If you have to put tape on your mustache, you are spending too much time with your mustache. 😜
Is that wendy williams?!
How about train the dogs to not continue to bark. 6 hours of pure stress on the cat is torture. There are more friendly ways to achieve the goal.
