The first two seasons got funded at the same time, and then the third season was announced right after the first one was released and showed how popular it was going to be. So the animation studio has been going crazy on both seasons since the start, and are working on the third season now. There is also a spin off series that was announced featuring the cast's characters from their second DnD campaign, The Mighty Nein. There's also a movie coming that we don't know anything about yet, other than it's in the works.
Omg imagine an animated DND universe with all types of different RUclips DND campaigns. And then like a movie where a few characters from different campaigns go against some crazy boss
Originally, season 1 was supposed to be released in 2020, but got delayed due to the pandemic. So once 1 got released they had already been working on season 2.
Honestly, I think EXU: Calamity would make a pretty good movie(or three) or a good series. Fairly self contained, dramatic, and with a strong conclusion.
- Osysa the Sphinx is voiced by Alanna Ubach - Earthbreaker Groon is voiced by Ike Amadi (he has been voicing Martian Manhunter recently) - Highbearer Vord (which in the campaign was a man) is now voiced by Sumalee Montano who also is the voice of Sharon McGee & Grandma Nin (The Ghost & Molly McGee) - Craven Edge & the Black Powder Merchant Victor is voiced by Matt Mercer
With the Dragons and the Sphinx I gather they did them up with the CG first and then the 2D animators went over them adding extra details and blending it better with the rest of the show. kind of semi-rotoscope sort of stuff.
They put texture on the models themselves which wouldn't require extra animation but makes them look more real than Brimscythe with his flat colours. But like the other comment said there are some details with extra animation, the light refraction on Vorugals ice.
Vasselheim is the only city in the world that's never fallen. Since it was built back when the gods walked the earth, it's never been successfully invaded, even during the war of the gods, aka the Divergence.
I really can't wrap my head around this. Lupa laughs and jokes in the most serious and emotional moments of many other shows...but when he watches this one, at every joke and funny moment, he was so serious and not crackin even the tiniest smile. Like wtf?
he did find it funny when the sphynx roasted scanlan. plus some people prefer to make jokes and create funny situations out of something, not to be bombarded with them. maybe he’s like that too. I don’t know though.
@Jos-Jos Radvanjí love the nice reply...but I guess he wasn't feeling it at that moment. Also, a disclaimer: I'm not being negative or anything, just felt it was strange he had 0 reactions at those moments.
Yeah, season one was already payed for in Kickstarter when Amazon picked it up. Amazon paid for two extra episodes for season 1 and season 2. And Amazon gave the ok for season 3, and a new series based in the same world.
Funny thing is that they initially went to Amazon to see if they'd fund it but Amazon said no. Then they went to crowdfund it, and a couple million dollars later Amazon contacted them saying they had reconsidered.
8:12 bit of a Easter egg in that scene. The man in the middle and woman on left their design is based on Garrison and Red Monika from Battlechasers. Can't wait for y'all to catch up, shit is beyond wild. Even long time critters were sursprised by how this series is changing things, but in a great way
This series has saved Fantasy TV for me the last couple of years. The second campaign that takes place a few years after the first one, and with different characters just got its own series!!!!
I don't think most people even know Battle Chasers even is. But its a nice cameo, since their creator has worked with Critical Role since C1 during its Kickstarter for the game.
The Vista gestation that's she describing are Leg we nearly WORLD class items. They were greenlit for season 3 before season 2 started, and now they're also greenlit for a 2nd series with new characters. So they should be able to crank it out.
Fun fact for those unaware you don't have to verbally say you're raging like you're casting a spell. (Character wise) So grog attempting to say rage and getting pummeled and having it interrupted was hilarious.
Its a trope for Grog, as his catchphrase is "I would like to RAGE!". And I think he learns after this because in Episode 5 he didn't say it, but just did it.
Now that you've met the black powder merchant, you should look up the Critical Role Victor clips. Matt's performance, and the players' reactions to it, should not be missed.
At the end, I don't think "Bumi", actually blew himself up. Without something to CONTAIN all thst energy, that Powder should have just lit up and the fizzled out.
Yaboyroshi I have a suggestion for the gang to watch called Kuroko no basketball it's a very good anime and feel like since y'all have watch volleyball and soccer y'all could do basketball.
I wonder if they’d actually enjoy since they’re pretty familiar with basketball. All the crazy power ups might put them off when it’s a sport they actually play?
This isn't the first time Travis Willingham (Grog) has gotten his ass kicked by an old man. Watch the movie Secondhand Lions to watch Robert Duval kick beat the snot out of him.

This show isn't reinventing any wheels, but it is executing its story beats and tropes very well. I generally like the changes they've been making from the campaign in the Critical Role stream.
Im so happy Matt still voiced Victor. He’s so minor yet hilarious
One of the best NPC's ever
He's not minor he's explosive!
He had to voice Victor. Wouldn’t be the same without him. Just like he needs to voice Pumat Sol and Essek in the Mighty Nein.
Victor is still by far the best NPC Ive seen up to ep 98 of the campain.
@@phyrus16 Wait until you meet their merchant friend in C2... Pumat is... a treat.

Idk which I’d prefer, the physical damage from Groon or the emotional damage from Osysa
well, the physical damage from Groon ALSO came with emotional damage
@@anathem9982 this is true
I almost forgot Grog had upgraded to a vampire sword.
The gunpowder salesman put the "Boom" in Bumi.
This season is so damn fun too. Banger show
Even though it is such a small part in this episode, Victor is a huge part of VM. Loved this episode.

Sphinx treated my man Scanlan like was the whole circus
Victor my all time favorite of Matt Mercer in campaign 1. Matt's Halloween costume was awesome.
I'm hyped for Episode 6. One of the best episodes in the season.
First reaction vid I've seen where someone caught and mentioned the South Park reference. I was beginning to think I was the only one that heard it.

Why does Grog getting beat up remind me of the scene from "Wanted", when Fox was beating up Wesley and asking him, 'why are you here?!'.
