Funny how they accurately depicted french hedgerows here which if I recall correctly that a WW2 veteran said in an interview were an absolute nightmare for both vehicles and infantry to traverse through.

Would be accurate to add a Sherman with the Culin hedgerow cutter upgrade for research, can't wait for the hotfix.
Calliopes could not use their main guns out of the factory, but some were field modified by crews so they could fire, although it came with the cost of having a reduced elevation for the rocket launchers.

No It's M4A3 (76) W and "W" stands for wet ammunition stowage. These Shermans have all the ammo stored on the floor under the turret. So there is no ammo on the sides. I'm pretty sure most if not all Shermans with 76mm had wet ammo stowage. This decreased the burn rate of Shermans from 60% or even 80% (don't remember exactly) to around 15-20%.
Wet stowage itself didn't actually make a big difference. It was the ammo location that made the biggest difference.
Oh thats on me then, I just shoot Shermans in the side in WT and they go up like this lmao
@@theShermanator Over the years Gaijin made AP rounds with HE filler significantly stronger than they used to be. It's much easier to get one shots now after you penetrate by either killing the crew or setting off the ammo even if you don't get a direct hit. That spot you mentioned is pretty much the best spot to shoot any tank in WT. Because the shell is gonna explode between the turret crew, driver and bow gunner killing them all.
And it was my comment about tanks in GoH you were referring to right after that.
@@starly1974They've always been nuke rounds. The filler in APHE is meant to help AP rounds have an improved fragmentation cone over solid shot, but in WT they will fragment backwards (which they didn't do IRL). It's a significant improvement to their lethality.
@@Chopstorm. I'm a WT Veteran and trust me AP with HE filler was significantly worse back in the day.
Shrapnel always went backwards but the explosions were generally much weaker and created less shrapnel.

@@starly1974 Maybe, but in comparison to solid shot it wasn't even close. If you were using solid shot you were playing the game on hardmode. It wasn't until the French were added ( and IIRC briefly when the British were added?) that solid shot got buffed into being a useable alternative to APHE.
TL;DR, APHE is stronger now, but so are the other types of ammunition.
About the calliope, the engineers said it would be dangerous to use the main gun while the rockets are attached, the crew´s did it anyway, as far as i know.

They only used it when it was necessary, it generally damaged the whole support structure.

I'm loving this new DLC... my friend and I had a great battle today, very urban area, him as German and me as US and he was absolutely destroying me with 4 PAK's, 2 halftracks and a bunch of MG's and infantry setup in houses... I got some solid grenade kills but lost 2 shermans on the way, the Shermans are great and he fears them when I play them but didn't stand a chance.. definitely looked like something changed, My M8 Greyhound however absolutely destroyed a chunk of his units before blowing up... Love this, will play a hell of a lot more!

What I normally do on maps with hedge groves, is blow holes through them with the demo pack all tanks come with. And make my own opening for flanking.
Yeah I learned that you can do that now, took me a bit haha
Also the quad gun half track is a great investment, as the four 50 cals can pin most light vehicles and hold back infantry with ease.

Love your videos! They made me buy the game! You're right about not over-microing otherwise it would be too boring for RUclips. BTW, how are you switching between the direct control modes? I am playing CTA vanilla and I can't switch between 1st person/3rd person (advanced control) and RTS control (classic control) like you are doing. Is it a feature only available in Gates to Hell?
Yeah, Gates of Hell has the ability to swap from Top down to 3rd or 1st person (depending on inf/vehicle)

I think that you can press F5 and click somewhere and infantry will stop and engage while moving there. But I don't think that they will take cover or lay down

The Jackson was the one mounted on a Wolverine hull and the Slugger on a Sherman hull :) Same turrets and guns

Ihave this game for about 5 days now and im doing an endless conquest as germans. Dman is it frustrating with the few units you can have. But so far its very much fun! And i kinda play like you, except i repair and steal tanks/vehicles. And so far KW1/2 gave me nightmares and also andruysha/Katyusha. But man i love it, though im at one point where i played pretty much every map so far :/

As good as Shermans are, 38.1 mm of flat side armour isn't going to be saving you from anti-tank guns.

Those bolt on plates look like they are almost an inch thick. If so they would probably nearly double the armor right there.
Thats fair, I was thinking more for HEAT protection, but maybe its just pure better armor against tanks
Im not sure if its in game but some shermans had a welded plate over te side armor infront of where the ammo is stored, not sure how that functions in game!
Ah thats interesting, maybe its to protect against HEAT projectiles? cant imagine the tiny bit of extra armor is to protect against actual AP shells
@theShermanator it adds 25.4mm of extra side armour over the area where the sponson ammo store is. Would be useful against AT rounds at longer ranges as it is a pretty substantial increase to the side armour in that spot
Edit: to be effective against heat the side panels would have to have air between them and the armour instead of being welded straight on

lmao, I believe the Germans stopped using the Balkenkreuz painted across their tanks after the Polish campaign when captured Polish gunners said they used them as aim points

Got this game at launched. Was not that impressed with it. The conquest/dynamic campaign felt a bit have baked. Big fan of the other titles though. Game seems to be more fleshed out. May have to give it another try
GoH has come a very long way since ~March 2021 when I first played it!
