This was everything I was hoping for. A K11 that proved to be more solid than expected and that would start and somehow manage to run on ancient stale fuel. It does again reaffirm that they are the best cars in the world. I agree with your dad. Don't do too much to it as it's a nice wee snapshot of time and its imperfections show that it has lived a life. Interesting to hear the story of your almost first car too
Fantastic to see that micra start and be in quite good condition after being woken up all jobs which I am sure that you can both take on! I bet the memories came back Jon you never forget your first car mine was a 87 fiat panda engine string as an ox but body gradually dissolving! All the best to you both Daniel
Superb video & great that your trusty old Micra started, you can’t beat Japanese / Malaysian / Korean reliability, it’s only just run in ! Cool thing to still own. I know a great Bodywork chap in south Lincs, who is good at fabricating / repairs & does superb paintwork & reasonably priced. I’ll email you his details if interested. Where do you get your wheels refurbished, Wheelrite Gosberton
Brilliant piece of content. Stick the museum Micra in its spot and get it over to Dad. Forget the beauty bit of those wheels for now. Get the boots & brakes sorted. Clean it. And do some welding (get a cut of a K11 bodyshell which is solid in that spot, saves fabrication). And get a new sump on it.
I had a 1994 3 door 1.3 green lx then in 1997 a red (red goes faster) 1.3 GX 4 door all from new as, my brother worked for Nissan and we got family discount . Great cars, found memories.
After watching this I had a little look online and the "sport" seems really rare, they did a sport and sport+ (with the 1.4 engine) and the 1.0 sport seems to have non existent in survivors and the sport+ is rather rare usual case of them not selling many and because they've been so cheap they are all got run into the ground
Get your dad to teach you how to weld.a couple of plates onto the little gem to get her through the test. Rust is the enemy of classics, but it can often be fixed with enthusiasm, some cardboard templates, and a cheap angle grinder and welder from the middle aisle in Lidl - The Micra's done it's bit, everything still works perfectly after 10 years hibernation...
Amazing shows how well made those Japanese engines were back then , heck even the car im surprised has not rusted but wish me luck as im going to view a 1999 Citroen Saxo at weekend it looks mint and has been owned by same eldely gentleman since 2005 , mot history backs up the 75 thousand miles on the clock and no advisories so seems a bargain , Im selling my Fiat 500 next week £2 grand i got back for it as i cant put up with the FIX IT AGAIN TONY Car LOL
Yoh should be ok with a saxo of that era if it’s been looked after the TU engines were reliable not like the later prince and pure tech engines and I’ve had Citroens for years 😊
I reckon you should wash it and take it for a test.. Clean the brakes on the way and see if it will pass. Still do the jobs to freshen up a bit after but see if you can park a Micra K11 for almost ten years then MOT it 😂😂
You really love them don't you I like them and the older ones but after that terrible I'm not expert on them with wat model they are as I only had a g red and I enjoyed it when I put a 1.3 engine in and last few a couple of years but like any old car is rust but but welding no problem for me I'm shocked the red paint hasn't lost colour or lacquer peel you should put it back on the road if your not like most people haveing to many cars sat around doing nothing and there are plenty of people who do would not take much to put back on the road to be honest wat you going to do with it???
I do love them you are right :) - its an emotional thing rather than practical - the plan is to put it back on the road and take it to Rustival 2 in September - i will then hopefully run it as a retro modern daily
@@JonCoupland i would use it I don't understand some people having lots of cars just to sit there as projects and not get them done and back on the road to enjoy driving them yours doesn't need alot just welding can be expensive I'm lucky myself as older cars I can do every thing but the paint spraying I stick to old cars as newer cars are to technical with everything electrical now

Cheers Eddie. Thankfully this is only a £200 K11 Micra and so we're not overly bothered about treating it that way. When we fire up the Rolls Royce we will be a bit more careful 😉
Brilliant that , Jon ... your first car purchased by a dad .. you only get one first car and one dad .. bless him 🙏
Absolutely - really humbled that folks get to share my passion and my Dad with me :)
Love the old Nissan overalls and Dads attitude of “let stick a jump pack on it and send it” 👍🏻
I was shocked!
That moment of tapping the sill and waiting for the crispy squish noise is something I always dread!
Heart in mouth time!
The fact that it ran straight away after 10 years and on stale petrol just makes nissan micras the best cars that anyone could buy.
I have to agree
More K11 content jon! I have subscribed now, mostly cos of your dad being in the videos! Int he lovely lol
Hes the star not me!
Nice little k11 there. The RG21 is Basingstoke, and there is still a nissan dealer at the postcode, but now called Yeomans Nissan.
Ah thanks for letting me know
Just catching up on this now - what a good looking car that is - even with the tints! Very OEM+ - my sort of style.
Many thanks 👍
Great video, amazed she started 😮😂 seemed pretty emotional.
I was amazed too! Spent all night just staring at her in the garden!
Hope you're keeping the clip on headlight protectors as well. They took me back to the nineties! 😀
Of course

Glad to see a red micra, in good condition too, make sure to give it a polish, and maybe spoil it with some parts from gizfab and humprheys
😊👍 thanks for watching
Factory tints? Guess i should of waited konger to comment.
Looks like a good car
Ah no - i whacked them on there at 18

Definitely some rust converter needed and some bonda primer, plus a top coat of something before the tin worms form a revenge attack 😅👍🇮🇪
Absolutely!

Ah brilliant - red is faster i agree ;)
I have a 5 door K11. In my opinion it is the most reliable car ever made. Only weakness is rust which needs to he taken care of.
Awesome - they are brill
brilliant result boys
So far so good
Decent car there it will need a little bit of TLC but its well fixable. 😊
Watch this space :)

My Renault megane has no rust it’s clean and it’s been sat since 2014 the only bit of rust is the slam panel
Sounds good! You should revive it too :)

thats not a me problem! love it!
🤣🤣
Wish I could see my first car again, lol
☺️
Testament to Japanese reliability. Nice looking Micra that, fog lights and alloys I see
Yes it's a nicely specced one
The Mighty Micra refuses to die! I'd still trade you the rust on the 2cv, for the rust on your Micra.
Ha maybe another day!
As soon as you start using it all the old rubber bits will start to fail !
More content then 🤣💪
Of course it was going to start it's a Nissan!!
I was wrong to doubt it!
I love it
Thanks Peter!
Bullet proof engine same as my old datsun cherry f11 never failed
:) - couldn't believe it started!
A good bit of carchaeology!
