Afternoon front row ride on the Phoenix at Knoebels (07/03/2024)

With Phoenix having a station wait, I decided to film another ride on it, and this is the result.
Phoenix is one of two wooden roller coasters at Knoebels, the other being Twister. While Twister is an original coaster based on the defunct Mister Twister from Elitch Gardens, Phoenix is a second-hand coaster. It originally opened in 1947 at Playland Park in San Antonio as the Rocket, and operated there until 1980. After sitting derelict for four years, Knoebels purchased the coaster and reinstalled it, and it opened here on June 15, 1985. The ride has a double out and back figure 8 layout, and can be best described by its strong ejector airtime that throws you out of your seats, particularly on the last four bunny hills before the brake run, which it has in large part thanks to the trains being fitted with buzz bars as opposed to the ratcheting lap bars of Twister. This I think has been a large contributor behind why the coaster has consistently held a top 10 spot in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards for best wooden roller coaster.
