I do think the economy has had the biggest affect on the hobby. So, many collectors turned to painting for themselves. Some turned out to be really good and now we are saturated with "Artist" I am strictly a collector and I am picky with what I collect. I want true art pieces but I will support up and coming artist and I can tell there is talent there to see. I am by no means a true critic but I know what catches my eye and I am a bit of an eclectic LOL so my taste vary anyway.
That is such a good point that collectors started painting for themselves! I didn’t even think of that….so true

Hey girl. Wonderful chat. I feel exactly the same. To the point of selling my kit stash and hoping I can get what I paid for them. OR because it’s just something I like to do and just donate to the nursing homes. Since for me it is a hobby and not a way of life. Then on the hand the reason I bought so many was to earn a little extra spending money and to just give them away I will have spent SO much acquiring supplies that I feel I can’t afford to loose it ALL. Then like you said it would be nice to move some dolls to try a new one but the market isn’t moving and now so many people learning to paint the dolls just don’t sell and definitely not for the amount of work that goes into them them. Another aspect is the products have changed and people don’t want the older ones. Anyway enjoyed the chat. Blessings dear dolly sister❤
Christy, hi! Yes to all of this! Someone else mentioned how collectors are learning to paint which I didn’t even consider and that is so true. I hope this hobby sees better days!
I took a break from the community for 2.5 years and coming back now is crazy. It’s honestly pretty sad to see what’s become of the community

It makes me so sad. I just started into this hobby in the summer and its SO hard to sell my dolls I've made and I'm so proud of my work but no one to share it with it makes me so disheartened.
I hear you! Man it was so much better when I started. My painting was not the best but my dolls flew off the shelves. Now it’s anxiety inducing just to list them sometimes 😭

Linda, I know about using thinning medium to repair cracked matte but his hair painting would have turned into a blur I thought. Nice to see that it doesn’t show up in videos anyway. He films beautifully. What did Shaylen suggest?

This is such a good topic. I lurked in the reborn community for a while before taking the plunge myself 2 years back, and even in that I've noticed a shift. I feel like, as a new artist I chose the worst time to get into it. I think the way you described sampling is why I got into painting, getting to experience the doll for a short while and learn what I like about it or what I dislike before letting it go and finding what I really want in my personal collection.
Its so tough to try to sell my work for what its worth, but at the same time, seeing other artists work and just knowing *I* cant even justify a new doll.
I hope there will be a come back, I really would love to experience more sculpts and more painters
