Aaron: Hey guys, it's Aaron.
Kristina: And I'm Kristina.
Aaron: And we are professional dance instructors here in New York City. Now today we're going to be talking about a little dance we like to call the foxtrot, and we're going to be starting here with the basic step. So what we're going to do is break it apart, and I'm going to show you the gentlemen's part and then Kristina is going to demonstrate for us the ladies'. So, in its most basic form, what we're looking at here gentlemen, we're starting again with our left leg just as we have in all the dances previous.
So what we're going to be starting with is two walking steps forward. Walk, walk. And then we're going to step to our left. Side, together. And then we would just repeat that from there. Walk, walk, and side, together. So taking a look at that one more time, now we're going to add the actual counts to this step, which is going to be slow, slow, quick quick. And slow, slow, quick quick. Now I'm going to let Kristina demonstrate the ladies'.
Kristina: Okay, so for the ladies we are generally in the smooth dances moving backwards, so we're going to start on our right foot. We're going to take two backwards steps, so we have back, back, and then side right, close left foot to right foot. Again, back, back, side, close. And the counts for that, as Aaron had said, are slow, slow, quick quick. So we're going to go on the right foot heading back slow, slow, quick quick. Slow, slow, quick quick. So let's try this together with a partner. And slow, slow, quick quick. Slow, slow, quick quick.
Aaron: Now, let's try that to music.

Handy if you ever have to dance down and endless diagonal corridor.
Yeah....how tf are you supposed to make an entire dance out of this?
LOL
@@doombuggy123 this is just the basic step. There are a lot of different steps in foxtrot, like progressive, left box turn, promenade, etc.
I laughed pretty good at this
Have you tried going in a different direction? It is useful when I am casually strolling down the street and hit the wall
Love how the music is not even CLOSE to matching up with the steps! Good work!
I took neighborhood dancing lessons many decades ago and I just loved the Foxtrot, it felt as if I were just floating across the floor. The Cha Cha was a fun dance with minimal physical but great eye contact. Great fun! I hope that people get back into this kind of dancing, it really is a more civilized way of interacting.
Civilized how?
@@andynonymous6769 - As opposed to twerking or grinding against one another in public.
@@solamano7239 I bet when foxtrotting first was invented, people viewed it in a similar light
@@andynonymous6769 Lol, and surely one day twerking will be viewed as Foxtrot is now
Watching Downton abbey of all things got me interested in the fox trot as I absolutely love the 1920’s era! Minus the great depression!
Nice and easy; will watch the rest of the videos. But it would be nice if the "now we'll watch this set to music" actually had the music match the dance tempo.
Truly surprised. They put all this effort into production values -- sharp video, clear audio instructions -- and then don't put any effort into syncing the music to the steps. Must have run out of money!
Are you sure you just don't know how to subdivide the music?
Are you sure that the music at 2:00 is foxtrot? cause it sounds like a random background music... @Carrie Sholes is right, the music doesn't match the dance tempo cause they are not dancing to it
Also counting usually involves numbers, not “slow” and “fast” which as a musical and mathematical person I just cannot wrap my mind around
@@sarasteele5465 I thought that was quite strange as well. This is just one weird video.
Simple and simply the best slow fox trot video ever made.! Hats off to this lovely couple. ❤
Me practising this knowing that I’m probably not going to have a dance for at least a couple of years until the Corona is done
FOR REALLL like who am i tryna impress and what dancing with the stars episode am i abt to featured in when im in quarentine
😂 In right here with ya.
hope it's not years :/
Years??? Oh no... I am NOT going to online highschool...
Cheers for the Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Miyyan Wenacob Bulldozer (google it)? It is a great exclusive product for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my good mate called Gray at last got astronomical results with it.
Great instructions for people starting out. Thanks a million!
Guys, if you try to dance this way you will be dancing your partner into tables and chairs by the 3rd or 4th Quick. Every teacher teaches it this way BUT I doubt if they are wrong. So the correct way to dance a fox trot is to first angle your body’s at a 45 degree angle down Line of Dance. This will keep you in a relatively straight line as you progress around the floor. Guys always remember it is your job to make her look good. The music set the scene, you are the dance and she is the dancer.
Wait what happens when you get to the other end of the room?
Then start to do the whole thing the opposite way, backward... ;D :)))
*I think you shouldn't really have problem with any wall or any other dancer on the floor, once you know the basic steps properly, easy to adjust your steps a bit into the right direction to avoid any distraction during the music & dance..
You pivot, of course. The WHOLE time you can pivot.
You unlock your permeable powers and move through the walls.
You let go of your partner and go home
Thank you so much for putting it into simple 💕
Don’t mind me just having a refresher before my father daughter dance this weekend at my wedding.
Oh, how lovely, how did it go?
when you're not learning this in school or even have some kind of dance to attend just learning this on your own because why not. and you still manage to mess up on the bare basic steps. 😞
ironic toast ßß
I feel bad, just go to the nearest dance centre.
Basic or not, you always have to gain some good routine first ;)
* So just keep practice & once you will be fine, just like with cycling on a bike..
We did this in ballroom dance class and it was a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the videos for easy way to understand this steps & the real meaning of the foxtrot, before I only knows & use as a code word representing the letter F & also used in radio communication purpose. due to I am Asian we are not familiar with this ballroom dance but I always love it..... anyway once again thanks for the videos.....
She looks like princess Diana! So pretty
Thank you for helping me show off talent
I'm planning on walking again.
As soon as I can I'm getting dance lessons!!!
They taught us how to do this and the salsa back in elementary school, good ole days
I love your dress!!!💖💖💖💖
It looks great to me!!
I like how demure the lady is dressed very respectful for teaching the dance
Love her shoes 😍😚😙
Thanks for the tutorial
Claw kicker you came along way🙏
Not me watching this even tho I’ll probably never dance like this and while I have 5 assignments due tomorrow that I haven’t even started ✌️
I,really loved and liked it😘
Thank you for helping me
this really helps me with my ballroom dancing class Bang
When is quarantine is over, I’ll be ready.
I didn't know what foxtrot is until now when I am reading a short story book of 60s and read it there!
Is this a good easy step to start dancing?
I'm learning this at school!
Easy! Thanks. I suggest longer video and more moves.
You should show this same lesson with both dancers showing it done also from their backside too, just for completeness, so you can get sort of the reverse feel for, of the motions involved. .
Thank you.
I love his pants wow
If you are always going in the same direction, how do you stop colliding with a wall?
Though it does remind me of something i think Ginger Rogers said "I could do everything Fred could, but backwards"
I learned ballroom and latin american dancing and i dont remember anything, but muscle memory right😅
And i aslo just love how short the videos are
Idk, I mean I’ve been studying ballet for fifteen years and can pick up choreography pretty easily for just about any genre, but this one looks really difficult. Went way over my head. I’m gonna need you guys to break it down some more.
Now i'm ready to get in my time machine!
let me in
This would be beautiful danced to 'Slipping Through My Fingers' as a Father and Daughter wedding Dance. The Father handing the daughter to her new husband at the close of the ance and going on to their own wedding dance as a newly married couple as we had planned, sadly my dear Dad passed away before my husband and I married 💔but this song and my Dad forever in my heart, bittersweet 💕
Is this the American smooth style foxtrot or international foxtrot.
tnx for the teachings...but can i have a copy of the music??
Do you host group dance classes, for fun and socializing?

What about Romeo Foxtrot, specifically with the ride of the valkyries playing in a helicopter?
we did this at school :)
Really good
I like this dance
I like ball room dancing but I need more help with waltz
We can still practice
Thanks this helps!
And after you hit the wall to the Gentleman's left side...?
Practicing and wishing that once in a lifetime I will be a Princess and would get to dance with my Prince😅
What happens when you meet the wall?
Thank you Aaron, very cool!
sooooo.... you guys are in NYC... do you have a studio where you offer group or private lessons?
Very nice video for beginners! Unfortunately the music was not accurate for the style. Why did you choose to overlay the music at the end?
Hello Tiny Potato! Some of our favorite songs for foxtrot include: The best is yet to come by Frank Sinatra, all I do is dream of you by Michael Buble and All of me by Michael Buble. Be sure to subscribe to our channel we'll be posting videos about music very soon! 🤗
I've often seen the words Fox Trot on the labels of old records. Now I see how it was done.
Ah yes, it's all coming back to me. I remember being taught this and the cha-cha in high school
As a non dancer, musician I’m having a hard time understanding the rhythm. If the Foxtrot is in 4/4 time, are you counting 1,2,3& (slow, slow, quick quick). If so, is there a rest on the fourth bear of a measure?
The part "trying it to music" would help if the music wasn't the video series theme or if it was say, on the beat.
This dance is easy im doing this for graduation the moves are AA sidestep BB sidestep AA sidestep BB CC face each other CC face each other then restart
Whenever I dance foxtrot, I'll just hear Aaron saying "slow, slow, quick quick"
This one reminds the movie Out to sea, where Jack Lemmon was teaching Walter Matthau this dance. He was clumsy.
Was this filmed in the 70s?
Why do Edith and Thomas take a turn looking Dow at the floor when doing this dance on Downton Abbey?
Nice.!!!
While moving forward isn't it recommended to land the toe first to avoid crushing the ladies leg?
Usually you lead with heal first and lead with toes going backwards. To avoid crushing your partners foot, you both are offset of each other. The offset should allow your right foot to pass in between the ladies feet while the ladies left foot should be able to pass in between the men's feet.
How much do you make an hour to teach this?
Question: Can't the leader go back? Or are we going all the way forward reaching who knows where?
The leader goes back in the advanced version of this step, wich was the original step, before they simplified it so that people can learn it quicker. The advanced step is known as the "Junior walk", and has two more "slow slow quick quick" steps to it and the foot positions and timing are practically identical to the quickstep basic (only slower of course, and you face differently so that you actually travel down line of dance sideways with the leaders toes pointed towards the wall.
Harry Haller likes this
My father was a good foxtrotter, but I never took it up. Now I have to, as my Charleston days are over.
There has to be a pause after the quick-quick, as this is done to music written in 4/4.
Foxtrot = 4/4.
Most videos offer basic shacks like this: slow - slow - fast fast. And this is 3/4. That is, the rhythm of the Waltz. It’s very difficult to dance 3/4 when music is 4/4
I feel this is similar to the texas 2 step
This reminds me of dancing classroom in 5th Grade
Isn’t there suppose to be a heel turn or a heel drag
Thanks! This has really helped me avoid Shal-hulud
And what does the fox say?
im in 5th grade and we have to do this
+BigBaconGaming we have to do salsa, tango, foxtrot, and more in school, and I'm also in the fifth grade,we have 18 lessons, and have to dance with a partner, and all the boys were like" No we have to dance with girls"and the girls were like"No we have to dance with boys"and at the end we have a big performance in front of everyone's family:-\
I would like to see someone doing the Foxtrot as performed by Doris Day in the movie On Moonlight Bay. Was that step invented just for that scene? Or does it really exist? Can't find it on YT
Is this fox trot?
amei
13yo me trying to learn how to dance at 3 am for no reason whatsoever except I couldn't sleep
This is American or social style fox-trot. Not to be confused with International Fox-trot
i was gonna say
Foxtrot originated in the US.
That's easy actually.
I'm learning this because my rescued greyhounds name was foxtrot so I chose to learn the dance lol
where's the music
I’m an Ice skater and foxtrot is the first basic one u have to learn it’s acc quite different to this
You like to call it the Foxtrot? Isn't that what it is called anyway and for many a long year?
looks to me like tango vals,or just tango basic kaminata
Why are her feet turned out in a smooth dance??
FOXTROT BABBYYYYY
That’s a quick step
Como se llama la canción??
Hahhahahha usei. Isto para a aula de music
It's ironic because I'm at home out of school today with distorted ligaments on my left ankle and I looked up how to DANCE.
Sheilqagh Noonan
Me, but my kneecaps are constantly moving out of their groove... yet here I am.
Pluto is now called Planet Teresarene Shavandale Jenkins
and after you do this twice in the vid. you're done? "slow slow quick quick, slow slow quick quick. " "thank you for the dance" "it was my pleasure"
Slow slow quick quick?
Is it not based on a box step of Slow quick quick? I've seen some of the instructor teach Slow quick quick then went quick quick quick quick for the 4/4 beats.
I'm confused...
You an do it any of those ways. Foxtrot it one of those dances that have more than one rhythm (Swing does that too, because there have been so many evolutions of it over the years). Once the leader and follower have practiced some "s-s-q-q moves, as well as some s-q-q-s-q-q moves they will discover that they can seamlessly go back and forth between to two at any point.
