Nice one. It's actually a 60's song (ED Cobb - Songwriter) recorded in 1964 by Gloria Jones as a B side track which later became a Northern Soul Favourite in the 70's. Soft Cell did breathe new life into the tune and turn it into an international hit - so yes most people know it as a Soft Cell tune. Thank you for sharing the tutorial - nicely put together.
You are my favourite teacher of the entire set of tutorial initiatives that I am subscribed in YT. You really make it easy. Thanks, Amigo. Regards from Tijuana, México.
I'm just starting out, but this is great! I've found that you can just hammer onto the A if you're struggling with the fast change from G to A (EE, GG, CC, [quick open strum and instantly hammer onto A]) and it actually sounds more authentic played that way 👍
Good one .... can't wait to blast it on the electric ... but like you say ... it is good on the acoustic too ... thanks for throwing in "Baby Love" too !
This an outstanding piece of music, watch it's evolution? Gloria Jones did very little with it,Soft Cell saw the content and the beauty. Marylin Manson saved it from obscurity . Good eye for music. Then jazz found it , gave it another life. For me as a poet it aquires the life of something very special.
The song was written by Gloria Jones' brother. Who found Marc dead at the scene of the car crash which Gloria was driving in Barnes Common in 1977. Just a little research goes a long way. BTW. I'M OLD and a T. Rex fan.
Sure that Gloria Jones can thank this great british band (and also Marc Bolan) that makes her a revival for her music. I prefer the Soft Cell version. Good translation in GTR, thanks !
Great tutorial as usual but for teh record Its not an "80s" classic its a 60s classic. Originally done by Gloria Jones and just covered by Soft Cell as Marc Almond loves northern soul.
gr8 do u use light gauge strings ? I bought a John Lennon Epiphone and it was quite hard to play until light strings were fitted. The strings weren't very close to the frets even after I had it set up by Ritchie Blackmore's luther.
I'm really confused on what you call a C. Other than I really like your tutorials. There's a lot of chords I don't know, so if you could spend a little more time just showing how to play the chord instead of saying the chord. Thanks again! Great stuff. I've been playing for a few years sort of picking up things here and there , but I never have the patience to learn songs all the way through. I kinda have a learning disability so it's hard to remember everything. It's hard to follow tutorials, and it gets frustrating and makes me not want to play. :/
its a C Chord with an added G note on the low E string. (third fret from capo). Lots of guitar players throw the low G in. It makes the chord fuller and bassyer. Robbie Robertson uses both C chords on " the night they drove ol' dixie down
Geezo don't you wish you didn't say early eighties, fact is it wasn't a well known song before soft cell covered it which was in the early eighties!. Can be a tricky one to sing while hitting that off beat G to A end of the bar, I don't play the A and just play the middle strings open after the C which are G anyway as long as you just play the middle strings.

Awesome, I was waiting for a tutorial on this forver!
It's actually a song from 1964 by Gloria Jones, a great version.
Its was written by Ed Cobb originally recorded by Gloria Jones released in 1965 and re-recorded in 1976. So no its not by Gloria Jones.
gloria jones version done the best by a mile
great that you put in the extended version part!

Thanks !

Its was written by Ed Cobb not Jones.
Nice cover, and when i saw you first i thougt he look like the actor from Hannibal movies
The capo being on the third fret would be tuned to G? And if so, could you tune a guitar to a G tuning rather than the standard tuning?
great tuto... could you precise up and down in your futur video please !! thanks a lot
great man, the sus2 chord at the end of the bridge could be major instead ? sound cool to switch to major from minor...
Excellent esp the extended Ross bit

Marilyn Mansons version murdered the rest. He OWNED this song.
@Sandro23Sandro Got my epi cos a few on here have em, great guitar, you'll love it!
i thought of the cord progression myself and while looking through tutorials to see how else you could play this i found this video, bruh moment
hehe aditar :D
This song is from the sixties....
Yeah, but it wasn't a big hit then. The Soft Cell rendition is the quintessential version.

Thanks for explaining that Curtis! it does make it sound a lot fuller, and sounds a lot different without the capo.

@Conkzeh adidas don't make guitars....... it's a sticker. Look at Noel Gallagher.
80's, try 60's, Gloria Jones.
@Conkzeh how am i supposedto know, i just asked! wow! you are so mean!
Got the guitar down, put its hard to sing to it,
