      LeeGinSing To light? This has been discussed for decades. Depends on movie, but seems it presents her as depressed, which I know is part of disliking your body. But hope movie is better than this clip.

    • @jhaneeferguson2971
      @jhaneeferguson2971 7 лет назад +58

      it's been discussed but there are not many movies that have to do with anorexia. Not to mention it has a well known actress that went through it herself. In my opinion, the movie looks promising. And is she suppose to be happy as opposed to depressed?

    • @ellag9983
      @ellag9983 7 лет назад +76

      PietreADI actually it's prevalent in Africa and other countries but is harder to diagnose because people don't expect a self starving person in third world countries. And anorexia is almost always due to clinical depression and is often a form of self harm, self punishment or control mechanism. Anorexia is not normally low self esteem but self hatred . There is a reason it's considered a mental disorder and that's because it is . Stop talking as if you're an expert when you are behaving like someone who thinks someone with severe depression can just snap out of it.

      Dangerous Woman Wait, so anyone with heart disease is an expect? Sorry, not having the disease makes your opinion, no matter how educated, invalid? Sorry, may be good of Her St. introduce it, not better because she suffered friends m the illness. More emotional rather than factual is the potential, good for movie, not good for sharing information.
      Ask everyone that's suffered from it, all will know everything about it? It's either a good film or not. Presents subject well or not. One member of cast suffering from a mental illness in the movie does not make it more informative.

      I never said I agreed with her. You seem to hope that at the end of the movie she'll change her mind, become "normal", realize love is everywhere, get a happy ending.
      At least the quote wasn't shallow, it was strikingly beautiful, and beautifully unusual. That was my point.

    I admire Lily and her work so much. She really tries to make people think about mental illnesses and disorders.

    As someone who has been suffering from and been treated for anorexia for over 6 years now, I feel incredibly conflicted about this movie - while I appreciate that they're attempting to raise greater awareness about this extremely painful illness, I fear that it may have a negative effect and trigger more susceptible viewers to begin using it as a sort "guideline", similar to the really toxic thinspiration sites you see on the internet :(

    • @nondescriptbeing5944
      @nondescriptbeing5944 7 лет назад +3

      well there are already dozens of other anorexia/other eating disorder movies.

    • @irismols565
      @irismols565 7 лет назад +7

      I get your point. I have the same idea about the '13 reasons why' series. (Ive been confronted with suicide too, and its scary and confronting to watch...) I fear that some people might take it as an example or idealisation of the whole idea of mental health-problems... Yet on the other hand it brings it in the public eye for everone in their environment (to recognize, or think about it) as well. And maybe, just maybe it might motovate people to fight it, or help some people who need encouragement, confrontation or some sort of realisation. I guess every coin has 2 sides.

    • @emilyhancock3456
      @emilyhancock3456 7 лет назад +1

      + iriskeuh m absolutely, and I felt the same about 13 reason why, too as I've been medicated for depression for a long time as well. I think what makes this particular movie maybe even a bit more uncomfortable for me is because of the physical change Lily had to undergo to get ready for the role, even though it was obviously necessary it seems almost perverse to be doing that for a movie that's meant to be portraying the dangers of anorexia, I don't know how to explain it properly but yeah, I just feel very conflicted

    • @emilyhancock3456
      @emilyhancock3456 7 лет назад

      + Fun Facts yes, of course there, and I felt conflicted about them too - there's something about portraying a mental illness that manifests itself is such an obvious, physical way that always feels slightly dangerous to me

      It looks like cgi and makeup in some parts. Makeup for the face to look sunken in and then they did cgi for her body because at some parts her body looks super small and moving weird but her head is still huge and moving normally. They do this all the time for Hollywood.

    • @emilyhancock3456

  • @MrLidek
    @MrLidek 5 лет назад

    This movies, that I recently have watched, is very deep. There are no obvious solutions and paths. I was very moved with the story. Lilly Collins and her English co-actor were great. In fact, the story about struggling with day to day obstacles could easily deal with any other addiction or illness. Life as we know it.

  • @vanessado1575

    As someone recovering from anorexia, I think it's amazing that there is a film like this. It's great to spread awareness, yet even from the trailer it is a bit triggering. So, if anyone has an active eating disorder at the moment, I probably would warn them to stay away. Other than that, this seems amazing, and I hope that one day I can be strong enough to watch this and feel content with my recovery. :)

    Very inspirational, im sick almost everytime and constantly needed someone to care for me and being sick u needed certain things to be right and when the help cant or wont meet to your expectation it just dragged you further from your healthy state and u seem to get worse and it gets prolonged u curse everyday and everysec. I can see im driving people away, making people see me as a monster. There is always a moment of time i lose myself and cried endlessly and the person feel bad and made the effort to patch things up but u knew this thing wont last and people hate you again and they let u feel as if it was your fault. Slowly everyone just moving away from because u just a shame and rotten to them. Mostly im sick of tired listening to false hope that things going to be alright going to hospital but never see the the light to my situation

    I've heard alot of people criticizing this show based on "glamourizing starvation". Honestly it looks like a beautiful show that brings a common issue to light and shows people who are suffering that they are loved. Excited to watch this drama that has cast/crew members that faced and conjured this illness.

    I remember a few kids shows telling the dangers of being anorexic and of other disorders. Really happy to see someone bring that back!

      PietreADI why are you commenting the same exact thing on every comment.

    • @revinaque1342
      @revinaque1342 7 лет назад +7

      PietreADI That's how a lot of people see it, but anorexia is actually a form of control. Many of these people grew up in emotionally abusive environments, and that's how it manifested in their lives. It's a psychological problem.
      I'm from a developing country, and I still encounter people with eating disorders. Bulimia is actually fairly common among women who have been sexually abused for a long time, while anorexia seems to be more common in higher socio-economic classes.

      I heard they might actually discuss Binge-Eating Disorder in the film, if it makes you feel any better. I could be wrong though, but it would be ideal since it is about an eating disorder clinic--not an anorexia clinic. The cast is also very diverse. For all we know they may discuss all eating disorders, of which there are many even beyond AN, BN, and BED.

      Gugguggug100 Why can't you just be happy that they're making a movie showing awareness to a type of eating Disorder? Yea, obesity is a huge issue but so is anorexia, they did a good thing, just take one day at a time.

    knowing that Lily previously has struggled with an eating disorder makes this even sadder, knowing these emotions are real and raw. I can tell the end of the movie will be positive and she will see the light at the end of the tunnel... which is v hard to get to!
