The sound engineer had his work cut out for him with this. The vastness and power of her voice completely annihilates everything else in the mix. Incredible.
He captured Andrew brilliantly too - you get the breath and the nuance of his voice. I love the way he sounded around this time.
Incredible job, by Andrew's own admission his voice is not particularly powerful (in terms of volume) so getting him to sound both loud enough and without distorting his vocal is a tricky job.
Not that hard when they're singing to a backing track.

I cannot believe i missed this back in the day , i was 27 playing in bands, i must have been drunk in pub somewhere, it took me 28 years to get here but wow absolutely wow what a track, i can imagine the conversation with the TOTP production team when Ofra Haza announced she was'nt miming, apparently they didnt like live stuff because of the poor accoustics in the studio and it was just bloody hard work. What a haunting performance from a stunning women with a stunning voice, she absolutely nailed the song, pure perfection and kudos to Eldridge for a masterpiece. I had to look Ofra Haza up on Wiki and was gutted to see she died 20 years ago at the age of 42. Her memory will live on as long as people are still touched by her performances. I certainly am.
Wonderful ToTP2 moment dedicating a song to a person who is not in the band, they have confused Patricia and Ofra.

Amazing performance (to playback, but the vocals are live), Ofra was on form as ever. Beautiful voice and sorely missed.
The best version of this track IMO, mainly because it has the most Ofra on it. So powerful. I feel a bit sorry for Tony James and the Mystery Men though, who get no lighting on them.

Wow - Ofra Haza... What a banshee! Such a uniquely uplifting and melodic contrast to Eldritch's darker, more percussive vocal style in this song.
It's no wonder why Sisters have proven to be so influential to so many when hearing songs like these.

I saw the music video of this song and had to find a live performance to see if it's some studio trick or is her voice really like that.

Nice of TOTP 2 to play this for Patricia Morrison's birthday seeing as this was after she'd been sacked by Baron Von Eldritch. I'm sure she was delighted!

They are singing live for sure:) Hear the studio version and you'll find the differences - especially in Ofra's part. The rest is played from tape - but that's the TV rule in shows like this..

Yep, you got it. Although even when the rule was relaxed again in 1994, most acts continued to sing live.
Probably because people wanted to listen Ofra singing.

Her name's Ofra Haza, she had a top ten hit of her own called Im Nin Alu (or something). Wikipedia has a good article on her, she's dead now sadly.
