The sound engineer had his work cut out for him with this. The vastness and power of her voice completely annihilates everything else in the mix. Incredible.
Incredible job, by Andrew's own admission his voice is not particularly powerful (in terms of volume) so getting him to sound both loud enough and without distorting his vocal is a tricky job.
I cannot believe i missed this back in the day , i was 27 playing in bands, i must have been drunk in pub somewhere, it took me 28 years to get here but wow absolutely wow what a track, i can imagine the conversation with the TOTP production team when Ofra Haza announced she was'nt miming, apparently they didnt like live stuff because of the poor accoustics in the studio and it was just bloody hard work. What a haunting performance from a stunning women with a stunning voice, she absolutely nailed the song, pure perfection and kudos to Eldridge for a masterpiece. I had to look Ofra Haza up on Wiki and was gutted to see she died 20 years ago at the age of 42. Her memory will live on as long as people are still touched by her performances. I certainly am.
The best version of this track IMO, mainly because it has the most Ofra on it. So powerful. I feel a bit sorry for Tony James and the Mystery Men though, who get no lighting on them.
I still don`t get it after all those years... this song is so simple, but the tune just never goes away. Sisters of Mercy and Ofra Haza? How did that happen anyway... I still don`t get it - but it brought to me one of the best songs in my personal music history!
Wow - Ofra Haza... What a banshee! Such a uniquely uplifting and melodic contrast to Eldritch's darker, more percussive vocal style in this song. It's no wonder why Sisters have proven to be so influential to so many when hearing songs like these.
her voice, whoever she is, is so versatile and accurate... she floats between the notes with so feather lightly like is a barefoot walk in the park. I saw the music video of this song and had to find a live performance to see if it's some studio trick or is her voice really like that.
Nice of TOTP 2 to play this for Patricia Morrison's birthday seeing as this was after she'd been sacked by Baron Von Eldritch. I'm sure she was delighted!
They are singing live for sure:) Hear the studio version and you'll find the differences - especially in Ofra's part. The rest is played from tape - but that's the TV rule in shows like this..
Very unique track with good combination of Ofra voice and the lead singer of band. Can't stop shanking my leg to the energetic rhythm. This can DANCE. Thank you for posting.
@@cartertheunstoppablefaxmac902 I'm not sure I even saw his blinking lights anywhere on stage. Maybe he felt his presence wasn't required if the background track came from tape instead of him playing the drums live? ;)
the best song i ever heard, you don't know how much drugs and alcohol i took each time i heard this amazing song........the old days, nothing remains the same...billy from ALGERIA........
You can see Andrew is trying to hold back a huge grin because he's on top of the pops with OFRA MOTHERFUCKING HAZA. Musta felt like a boss that day, for sure.
Every time I hear this track I realize how much the world was robbed by the beauty of Of Ofra Haza's voice.
Her voice gives me goosebumps. Very sexy voice too
❤so sad...damn ! Stop treating people like they did...Ofra Haza, a beautiful crazy legend talented Lady...
One of the most unexpected and striking collaborations in pop music history. Thumbs up to Eldritch for teaming up with Ofra… :)
RIP Ofra Haza. You were a gift to humanity! 😭👍
RIP Ofra Haza who died so young. She was absolutely beautiful in this video and her voice was stunning.
The sound of ofra like the gift of Troy
Ofra Haza's voice is so perfect its kinda scary
her voice live is better than the studio version wow
+wumpscut1 I can't believe she's dead.......
@@zaknafein_aconite Unfortunately it was AIDS, which led to pneumonia of 2 degrees.
@@zaknafein_aconite no way!!!!

He captured Andrew brilliantly too - you get the breath and the nuance of his voice. I love the way he sounded around this time.
Incredible job, by Andrew's own admission his voice is not particularly powerful (in terms of volume) so getting him to sound both loud enough and without distorting his vocal is a tricky job.
Not that hard when they're singing to a backing track.
Goosebumps... Best rock/Goth Rock song ever.
Can we talk about Ofra Haza's vocals though? Jesus Christ what a powerful voice.
Please don’t take Our Lord Jesus Christ’s Name in vain. Peace!
@@RapidCycling07What’s the big goddamn, Christ nailing problem pal?
Still the best live performance on TOTP ever , RIP Ofra
Oh she was absolutely beautiful!
She is the reason why I fell in love with this song. Rip Ofra.
Ofra Haza ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She commands that stage- they're all good, but she's just like an angel.
this is a very cool song, andrew is a genius,
with a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain inside....
Yes Ofra was the original lineup for this. She passed and Terri Nunn from Berlin was her replacement but nobody comes close to Ofra.
touched by the hand of ofra haza, complete perfection
Ofra Haza RIP my Goddess. we were the 0 generation, no hope. a lot of drugs. But so together
Ofra was huge. May she rest in peace.
Magnificent set of pipes... And Ofra Haza's prettty good too!
THE VOICE of alternative music at the time, amazing!
Agree
She is stunningly beautiful.
Absolutely without doubt one of the greatest songs of the early90's, such power, love it
With her special voice the song comes complete...fantastic👍
So cool they did this live.
There is very little footage of this era with live performances.
Ofra... what a voice!
What a beautiful woman
The best version
I just love her voice....she is incredible
Ofra Haza's voice overshadows everyone here. Such power.

Wonderful ToTP2 moment dedicating a song to a person who is not in the band, they have confused Patricia and Ofra.
I love Sisters of Mercy by Ofra Haza kinda blows them away with those backing vocals- best backing vocals ever
Amazing performance (to playback, but the vocals are live), Ofra was on form as ever. Beautiful voice and sorely missed.
The best version of this track IMO, mainly because it has the most Ofra on it. So powerful. I feel a bit sorry for Tony James and the Mystery Men though, who get no lighting on them.
i miss you ofra haza
RIP Ofra Haza
man this song was brilliant
That was actually a gem of a performance. Live vocals on TOTP...

WHEN OFRA STARTED ALL SONG IS HIGHLY YEEEEEEEEE I WAS 17 WHEN THIS SONG BEEN ON MTV GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL OFRA
i love you Ofra...

Ofra - period!

from 1991 to 1993 top of the pops wanted as many artists as possible to do live vocals.
Nice of TOTP 2 to play this for Patricia Morrison's birthday seeing as this was after she'd been sacked by Baron Von Eldritch. I'm sure she was delighted!
I miss her.
Best backing vocals in history
How good is her live vocals. So fucken good !
They are singing live for sure:) Hear the studio version and you'll find the differences - especially in Ofra's part. The rest is played from tape - but that's the TV rule in shows like this..
Ofras Haza wow
hi from russia....this song is so sexy and gothic....can't help listening to it
Glad you enjoyed!
Takes me back..... The extended version really tested my fitness dancing to it in a sweaty nightclub : )
Hey, the singing was done live. That's pretty rare for a TOTP performance.
+NIMRODakaNIMROD Not rare at all in 1992. All acts were forced to sing live then.
+Lord Skytower
Oh yeah, right. It was that short span when vocals were done live to a pre-recorded backing track.
Yep, you got it. Although even when the rule was relaxed again in 1994, most acts continued to sing live.
Probably because people wanted to listen Ofra singing.
;-)
NIMRODakaNIMROD both have a really good voice ..real singers
Stunning.
Anyone else as amazed as I am that TOTP actually played the live version on the telly without dubbing the studio version over it?
Beautiful song! And I didn't know that on vocals is Ofra Haza! Great!
Never really paid any attention to these guys at the time but really like their stuff now. Dark, brooding and energetic
Well at least Ofra Haza's singing is live :)
Fantastic performance, brilliant live vocals, one of the best songs from the 90s.
Andrew Eldritch, Ofra Haza & Tony James, it doesn’t get any better.
RIP OFRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...miss your angelic voice, Ofra...! RIP...
Remember dancin my ass off to this after a bottle of red thunderbird and some pharmaceuticals. Happy feckin days
Saw them play the Brixton Acadamy back in 98' I believe, then again in Prague. Great times.
Ofra Haza! I listened to her in 90-92... Funny, I never knew about this song, now I do! Thanks!
Fantastic tune from when i was 19....her voice just adds an erotic kinda innocence to it too...
Her name's Ofra Haza, she had a top ten hit of her own called Im Nin Alu (or something). Wikipedia has a good article on her, she's dead now sadly.
I found this song 11 years ago, it's still one of my favorites. So many good memories!
Incredible!!
It's hard to believe this group only made three albums
'This group' didn't; this clip shows a collection of hired hands that was assembled years after the Sisters ceased being an actual band.
omg OFRA I have no words.
Superb 👍🏻
Very unique track with good combination of Ofra voice and the lead singer of band. Can't stop shanking my leg to the energetic rhythm. This can DANCE. Thank you for posting.
1992 VERSION
Andrew Eldiritch, Ofra Haza, Andreas Behr, Tim Bricheno, Tony James, James Ray, Alan Vega , Docktor Avalanche
The good doktor's not looking so healthy here...too much speed & drinking I reckon, guess the hedonism of the 80s finally caught up with him.

How did i missed this.
Possibly the best song of the last 20 years
Mad watching a band like this on TOTP when you think of some of the shite that was on it.
RIP Ofra ...
Awesome
GodDAMN that chick has some friggin' PIPES!!!
Comecei a ouvir Ofra Haza após esse clipe, a voz dela penetra na alma. Que Deus a tenha.
I wish I were alive during this time period
It's karaoke, the musicians are miming but Andrew and Ofra sing for real here
I wish someone could up the volume of Ofra's voice, I want to hear her perfect vibratto. Unsurpassing!
