Railroad systems are important throughout the world. The railroad system sparked the economic growth that pushed many countries to be the world superpowers they are today. Railroads enabled rapid and almost effortless cross country travel and in some cases reduced travel times by up to 95%.
A rotary snowplow is a piece of railroad snow-fighting equipment. It is characterized by the large circular set of blades on its front end that rotate as a unit to cut through the snow on the track ahead of it. The precursor to the rotary snowplow was the wedge snowplow.
Here we get to see a huge snow blower working hard to try and shift snow for keeping a railway line active and despite its large size it sometimes seems like the snow is winning!
As you can see, the snow is piled up almost level with the rotary blower; this train is working through 9-feet-high compressed snow!
These snow trains would work from end to end of the line, clearing a path for the larger passenger and freight locomotives that ran behind them.

I love watching the fine powdery stuff getting caught in the whirlwind from the fan…looks so cool!
Amazing railway machinery!
Indeed it is!
Guy must be a real pro knowing when to turn when the tracks are covered
Don't be facetious...
Such a huge power full engine, I can't imagine how much power is required to push solid ice instead of just liquid water . and also keep driving at the same time .
Not enough power. The rotor could also stand some design consideration of adding some blades to break up the wall of compressed snow so the snowthrower doesn't have to swallow the whole pile at once.
like maybe a coned slicer in front of the big rotor slicer.
@@vicosdivicos Kind of like the one in turbofan engines but bigger
(Though the ones in engines don’t do
Much slicing)
It's like concrete...

I don't know what should Impress me more...
the power of the Locomotive? or the resilience of that Wall-O-Water
Yup - that is insane!
I just came from 2012 and this guy is still at it in 2019
فلاأأ
Checked on him in 2022 - he was almost done with his job when a huge snowstorm came up behind him and buried all the track he had been clearing - he pulled a quick, tight u-turn and started back the other way.
I was lucky to see it!
what I wouldn't give for a ride
Cool Snow! Verry powerfull machine!
Wonderful, train snow plowing views really great thanks for sharing very informative video congratulations 👌 different angle of excellent photography greatly appreciated 👍
Thank you so much 👍 cheers
POV: You came from a video with the slow train
I love this stuff
I don't know why, but when train go brrrr my brain like.
0:29 does the blower have a siren on board? Or is that sound from another source?
Yes, it has!
Needs a big retractable spike on the front end to break up compacted formations.
Aw I wish we had snow here in Australia xD
Rip power lines
I need this for my driveway!😄
Cool footage!
This is a CFR PZH95 snow blower. It has 950 HP diesel engine with a hydraulic transmission.
I have often wondered how much fuel they carry to get through with certainty.
wow, what an incredible video especially when you get so close to the plow.
Glad you liked it!
Looks so fun 😀
These things used to be steam powered.
But looked exactly the same
Hey there--this is pretty amazing! Subscribed!
I have some rotary footage from the 1970s that's in need of sound; I was wondering if I could work something out to utilize the sound from this in our video (with due credit, $ if necessary, and links to your YT page both in the description and actual body of the video; you name it).
Thanks much--again--great stuff!
Hello - write me an email - check the about info. Cheers
This is a New Construction rotary, isn't it?? there are surface resemblances, but it's quite different in detail to the older, steam-driven rotaries I've seen.
Me trying to get the ice out of the freezer
It`s not always nice to be first.
Nice
Thanks
To się nazywa kawał dobrej roboty.....👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Ralph ..Did you see John?

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think it needs a redesign. I need something in front of it to boar through the snow and break it up and bring it towards the blower.
I'm sayin'
probably a conical "breaker" or something. heck even a nose cone would help.
Power it up in Romania !!
Wow
Cine spune ca CFR nu face treaba buna! Incet dar bine!
4:15 when I havent seen my girl in a month
If they were to direct the entire power of a locomotive engine to the rotary blade, and built that blade heavy enough, I don't see how a ten-foot snow bank could stop it.
Nice ty
How does one get a job doing this
Where is this, Canada?
This thing seems to push more snow than it blows
Well there's no more snow on the tracks but I took out the powerlines
Filmed in Romania
I wonder if anyone had tried to use that for firefighting lol
Чего не показали результат его столь эффектной уборки? И что за ржавый, ободранный состав в самом конце ролика? Нечаянно старинный поезд откопали?
Legend has it that the engineer died and now his skeleton continues to try to remove the snow.....
When I was a kid, we had no idea how the snow was cleared from the train tracks or even if it had to be. We were ignorant, clueless and stupid and we couldn't have loved it more! No, that's not true. Our heads were full of unanswered questions.
Thanks, but where was this?
Romania... x
Would work great for rail protestors
Serious flaw in that video when speeding it up.. Leaving it in real time would have been so much better, and real!!
Noted!
0:53 It's at about this time that the photographer realizes that he put the camera tripod in the wrong place, needless to say - soon we shall see what a "flying piece of snow" looks like from the snow's perspective (as the camera takes it's own "flight" until landing in the caste away snow - 100 yards away from the track - at a high rate of speed).
Not enough power for the rotary.
I feel like this is not the proper way to use this machine. Need more engines, steady slow speed.
Also need something to pierce the wall of snow ahead so you're not just a big snow plow.
ya can all the engines ya want but can only get so much traction when the train has metal wheels running on metal rails and factor in snow around the tracks
@@larrysomers1654 More engines, more traction.
Yes, you are right but nobody know the term rotary. Thank you for this comment. Cheers

I don't understand how after clearing the snow, tree roots were visible. If there is a train line below, trees over the train line after a snowstorm. Quite strange!!

wwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooooooooowww
Not very effective.
You got a better idea? 😆😆
Those snow plows are not impressive. They're so gutless. They need a feeder or something. Sheesh, who's the engineer??? Consistent flow nothing. And the entire train has to back up and get a running start for every yard?
The train Snowblower comes to the rescue when the train snow plow he is overwhelmed by the situation and the snow is too high and too dense to be thrown by him! this is the worse situation!
