My ancestors are both Cherokee and Seminole and have lived this way for thousands of years, predating "Organized Religion itself" as several recent archeological sites on the east coast dating back to around 60,000 years, before even the "Clovis Peoples" arrival into the ancient Americas, via the last ice age bridge crossing. As a fifth generation war vet, I'm in the process of "Highlighting Indigenous ancient Permaculture and Sustainable Practices" for my children. Having traveled to southeast Asia were this is practically the norm, I feel that this is no as hard as people are led to believe, it is, and have no idea how the freedom its brings from the industrial enslavement of our lives.

Don't be afraid to share your spirituality with the people on RUclips. I, personally, for one, very much appreciate the fact that you are spiritual person, and that you were willing to share that with us. I am all for doing what is right and doing what is moral, and I do very much appreciate other people taking that stance and being willing to share that belief with other people.

Great concept! I love what you're doing. Please, never apologize for "getting spiritual" or mentioning God. God gave man dominion over the earth. We are gardeners. I can't help but think we are making His heart happy with the right use of resources... or at least searching and trying to figure it out. We can't make Eden, but we can show reverence to His perfection by trying to get there.

I can totally relate to the "No idea how big an acre is"
My nieces and nephews had never been outside the city, and came to my 1/3 acre property for a weekend.
When we walked to the back of the property to fish, they were scared they would get lost or we weren't at my place anymore.
They also had NO idea that there were wild plants, fruits, berries, etc that you can eat.
    Thanks for the video!

I enjoyed the chat & agree that 1 acre is plenty for casual homesteading gardens...I can't even keep my acre weeded...need goats...but lucky for me my permaculture method is to let some of it go wild! lol

I already have land i bought with a house.
I grow stuff on it for fun, not for survival.
But i would love to live that way.
I grow stuff for practice just in case i do ever end up needed to live that way to survive.
I know i have much to learn.
Is why i watch videos like this.
I planted fruit trees, and grow a garden every year.
I have no Animals on my land, sense i am in a city. But i want to move away and get land in the country.
And live the way i always wanted.
I used to rent some land in the country, but i never owned land in the country.
I know i would be good at it.

NIce dream. I had same since child, grew up on 245a, worked saved to buy cash 2.45/hr no bennies. The baby older bro didn't pay rent, Dad killed on road. I was de-execurturized. They stole and sold everything. To buy land is impossible in places.........Think about it. You have 240a. Build home with view in middle so no pig farm or whatever ruins it. So will you sell a acre to anyone let alone a stranger. Raising kids I was not related in town. My kids, same color etc, were nearly trafficked by town/school/biz. They call it..."let you in". Heavy relations won't. Example: ever see somebody with great job but no knowledge/experience get hired, oh and make terrible mistakes, then get a raise...? Nice family town, can be the worse. They follow each other around. Funny, all about sex I guess. Oh in country they call it breeding.
So u would be good? Me to. My family hated my creativity. Years of hard work, lil change all improved by the kid?? Try that in a factory also.

If you leave a section standing in a Winter time dearest will come there to eat and sleep so you can hunt them. It's no good for horses and cows though.

I think that's a benefit of it only being $100. You invest time as well, but hopefully it's like an internship to the visitor. If they stick around and develop it, then they have a place to live. If they decide to leave then that's their choice. and I expect most will learn a lot from their time.

@ DPH, what changed from the time that you were on the verge of losing the "farm", to now supporting two families? What changed from it being too much a burden for your family to take of to a wonderful little paradise that can sustain 16 people? A one acre garden is not huge. it probably takes one at least that size to be able to grow the variety of vegetables to support a normal size family to get them through the winter. If you want it to be considered sustaining and not depend on grocery stores for fruit and vegetables and have plenty canned for the year.

How do you figure an acre of various fruits and vegetables can barely get a familt thru the winter. Go to this video , forgot what it is called but they feed there whole family and make a profit of 25000 dollars selling to various restaurants all on, I think it was a quarter of a acre.

There are many other great people out there that would be happy and would happily help you out. Just search general permaculture design sites. They’d probably do it for free, too.

    • @DennisMoore664
      @DennisMoore664 6 лет назад

Roki MowntinHi - Thank you! This Paul Wheaton guy says a couple of times that they'll "look over your design and tell you how it's stupid" - not 'point out things you might not have thought of' or 'work to improve the design' - stupid. So I'm going to pay money, provide free labor, and be told my ideas are stupid? Pass. I'd love to be part of a community doing something like this, but from this video and the info I'm picking up from some of the other posts, not with this guy. And therein lies the rub. There are lots of people who can be great resources and inspirations, but it's so damned hard to find that right bunch of people and a place to build a non-traditional community.

An acre is 204 feet by 204 feet ... That's not very big in gardening/farming terms ... Using pasture rotation means more is needed to raise beef, pork, sheep, etc ... Then you need a woodlot for heat ... Hay section to put up for winter feed for animals ... Grains for flour and winter bird food ... Berries take room ... An acre plus for a pond or aquaponics ... And don't forget outbuildings like barns and tool sheds ... 10 acres is minimal for just me ... I could work 20 and live well ...

A major message that is not getting through to the suburban world, to politicians and the rest is that in terms of food production by far the most efficient is a clued up modern family on a few acres..it hardly matters where. These shocks people because they have bought in to all the half truths of the great corporate state. An inspiration to me has been Ben Falk...check him out...up in the mountains of Vermont..talks about soil "restoration"
At the other extreme all those people, associations and local government bot s etc that wont even let you dry your laundry outside! Never mind dig up your ghastly, obscene lawn and plant food! Loss of contact with the earth dehumanises us....

For 1e6 folks, "we" could include links to permaculture efforts in India and provide links to
companies there who are using humanure for biogas production and compost after 'cooking' it long enough to kill pathogens.
Perhaps linking "One Straw" folks to other temperate permies around the globe.
Joining the homesteaders from south america with zone 8 & 9 folks here stateside.
Please invite some speakers from Cuba to talk about self sufficiency to the antfarm.
So much experience and knowledge is out there, getting everyone to share is/will happen.
So what if we CAN feed everyone and be happy

    • @Frugal_granny
      @Frugal_granny 6 лет назад +3

I can name a place. Bushnell, SD. Where we live. We pay $15 for a building permit to the village. We build how we like. If its less then $5000 to build you don't even need a permit. We bought two old pre-grid era houses here (half a block from each other) and are working to return them to off-grid. One being our store (mercantile) and the other our home. Each has an acre of land. We can raise any livestock accept have a "feedlot". That is the only limitation on livestock rearing. We can butcher in town. But old laws still exist saying "no stud horse on main" and "no landing your airplane on main". (Because they had trouble with that before). :D Our state has few taxes. No income tax. Its because of the over-reach of Big Brother all over the nation we decided to not move elsewhere. We have no "home owners association" dictating to us either. We all have private wells (don't need a permit either). We can harvest rain water too.

What wonderful idea, we can turn all the monoculture dying farms in food Edens and at the same time save people from the economic disaster that is coming - oil only is cheap because of the centralised model of living which is a death trap, unsustainable, rotten to the core and only able to produce disease and misery - If you don't believe in what I am saying just see the state of world, We need a new model and this is the way!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you

I am interested in permaculture, so don't get me wrong, OK? This vid and others of his are to get people to pay him money to learn. That is ok in its own way, but the titles that are used to attract viewers are very misleading. It makes me wonder how reliable and honest a person this man is.I have made my own cheese from goat milk for a long time. Grew foods, and composted. All the while I was laughed at behind my back, to what others thought I was to dumb to know they were saying. I had little or no money, yet the place I lived was a 1000x's cleaner than anything I saw in his vids.

I can only assume that Perma-CUlture means Permanent Culture, and I am probably wrong, see? It's like you guys speak an entirely different language. Oh, at at the very end, "To watch the PDC live, go to the link in the description" What is a PDC? Where is the description? I am old now, but I built my first home on 16 acres in Michigan.

I have to ask - as a DISABLED person who would like to incorporate more eco-friendly/sustainable/carbon-footprint-reducing tech into my family's life - is there anyone even thinking about those types of opportunities? It seems to me that if more bright minds would be banding together over various challenges that such would naturally create more MARKETS for SOME - not all necessarily - of the products/solutions. There might even be more government research grants is various locations globally. Imagine the parents of a disabled child able to reduce their utility bills by 1/2 & use those funds to provide better therapies for their child. Just an idea.

sounds to me he is establishing a variation of a farm style of farm help programs that was common in early America. It was called "farming out" the kids but in so doing the Farmer they went to fed and sheltered them & IF they worked hard, they learned and earned some cash but mainly LEARNED. People call it slavery, etc but they will happily pay thousands for a sheet of paper that says B.S. on it! (or B.A.) with no guarantee of a job at the end. What's the difference? If they have a written contract with you... saying you do this or that... and you will in the end get this or that. You don't go into it without something in writing. Duh! Secondly its no difference then apprenticeships to learn rare trades. if anyone claims my man is "cheating" people merely because he wants to be PAID for his knowledge that THEY WANT for CHEAP... I'll kick them out so dang fast and tell them to go flip burgers for a living! My man's experience and knowledge in metalsmithing deserves financial REWARDS for all the time he spent learning while others PLAYED. He's 56 and for 40 years he's been mastering his trade. People need to show more respect for those teaching and quit being snobs. You aren't going to his place to white glove test his housekeeping skills! He's not promising that!. So grow up people.

Having disobeyed God Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden of eden. Thay learned of hardship and suffering so thay could learn the difference between good and evil. If they had the opportunity for 100$ and 21 months labor for a acre fo land back then maby there wouldn't be 1 percenters.

The idea is that if you stick around and want to live there, you get an acre of land to work and build on. It's a great learning experience for people to test out ideas, and if a person decides to move on then you only spent $100 and hopefully learned a lot from the experience. He's essentially sharing his property for people to learn about permaculture, and if they enjoy it they can stay.

that is cheap..for 100 dollars you have someone's knowledge...knowledge is power and that knowledge will give you the tools to do the work yourself... Moreover, if you want to go and paid for the same education given in a university...how much that will cost...

Theres farms in the Bavarian Alps that house seasonal helpers for " free " labor. But the worker is living as a family member being housed and fed and in surroundings that the worker seeks out in exchange for their sweat and its totally by choice.

    • @lukek4144

More like an internship that earns an acre of land with forty hours per week over the course of two years.
It's not a terrible opportunity for those who lack the ability to save money or who for whatever reason can't find gainful employment [I've seen reformed (and worse yet - falsely convicted) felons who just can't find someone willing to hire them] but bear in mind this raw land is essentially being sold for a bit over 4000 hours of labor.

Homestead Wannabe Eden is living in the presence of God. And for Hebrews that were desert folk, being in the presence of God is being in a Oasis like place. It's like when they left Egypt. They described the promised Land as "The land of milk and honey". All they meant is that, the land was blessed by God and fertile.

I'm so glad you have a desire to share this Edenic insight with the world. From what I can see your heart is involved as a labor of love not an "ACT" of love or kindness but truly a gift of love and being kind.
This reminds me of Eden it is like we are being called back. In the bible it says the last kingdom will be an everlasting Godly kingdom. I believe we are witnessing the beginning of that kingdom. I believe this is how God would have us live--- in harmony with all he created---not against his creations. Instead close to the heart of God.

This guy is no good. It's buried pretty far down on google but there's many people describing slum like conditions on his properties and emotional abuse. Apparently his community is behind a locked gate and the people who go there are not allowed to talk to the outside community. Child protective services have been called and raided the property in the past. He's basically a permaculture cultist. Keep exploring this world of sustainable agriculture, it's great. But this guy is bad news, don't get sucked into his stuff.
