Fun fact for you all. The game was actually made by former Technos Japan programmers of Double Dragon and RCR fame who later on made Mazin Saga and *drumroll* Cosmic Carnage for 32X
This was my first sega game . Honestly back then I loved it and I still do . Music and characters are awesome . Sure it is 2 button combat but it was enough for a kid .
This game has lived rent free in my head for fucking years, but I couldn't remember what is was or anything. I just had vague memories of renting it and playing it with friends. Only thing I remembered was the weird blue guy. I can know lay this personal mystery of mine to rest.
The strategy is to try to stun and grab. If not, to throw into the wall to get extra hits. Its an awesome game and I'm not saying this just because I'm nostalgic. I don't agree at all with the review.
This game wasn't great, but I can remember getting it as a stop gap until Street Fighter 2: Special Championship Edition came out, and I have to admit I quite liked it. That final boss was a friggin' nightmare though compared to the other charcaters.
I liked this game when I was younger!! There are a few moves where you can fly 100ft in the air and perform a suplex. I played it on an emulator recently and it wasn't how I remembered it.
I use to love this game as a kid! My friends and I use to play this all the time.It had a pretty good multiplayer and a strange cast but It didn't age well
I remember owning this game when I was 8 and I liked it. But now watching this video, I realise that my favourite character at the time is named Dirk 😂
Well, here is the first CGR review that i do not agree. I played this when i was a kid back in 92 and was a very enjoyable experience. Even today this game has some good memories, and a good fighting system, presenting critical hits seen' on KOF series and super jumps like Marvel vs Capcom series. Maybe they could have spend a little more time on the characters and the backgrounds. But the game itself is pretty good, better than Primal Rage or Brutal at least. For me Mark was to hard on that one
I had fun with this game in the days.I'm pretty sure I even finished it.I sure loved the genesis days I remembered playing super hang on for hours and finished it once.I think my genesis and my turbo duo was awesome. The only systems I really enjoyed.
I can't believe someone actually likes this game. I had it for a week when I was a kid, then I just exchanged it for a random game, Fifa 97, I guess. I totally agree with you.
i loved this game as a kid, tho even back then i found the game is rather... laggy my fav is the hawkman guy a part of me wants a remake of this game for the current gen
Back in the early 90s this game was a real good reference for me... I mean, there was this store where you could trade your games for some other used one, but the guys in charge were sometimes just trying to make you take a shity one so that they could get the rid of it... I sometimes asked them about some game and of course they used to say it was pretty awesome; that's how Fighting Masters became my reference, because my next step in order to check if they were lying, was to ask them if Fighting Masters was a good game or not... If they recommended it, I knew I couln't trust them.
Drason/Xenon (the dragon guy) is pure cheese. Get them into a corner & spam the fire breath. 2 hits drains 2 hp pips. It's slow as hell, but they're stunlocked the whole time, so long as you time your button presses right.
Lets see, we've done Death Duel, Cosmic Carnage, and now Fighting Masters (a game I still own). All we need is Xenophage and Fatman/Slaughter Sport... and Biofreaks.
2:56 I figured it out. If you're playing something in the sound test / music test, the A button fades it out (B plays it and C stops it immediately without a fade-out). I don't know what's more sad: the fact that the gameplay in this game actually exists or the fact that I figured that out DX
I used to love this game. But yea, now that he mentions it, it does not have any kind of strategy at all =P DIO is top tier. Also, since it's rare seeing Mark bashing on a game, I think lots of people will actually try this out on an emulator lol
The plant thing around 4:00 in looks like one of the mouths on my fly trap which grew up wonky after a night in the freeze - strange thing is, it is the longest lived one too. Thing has no chance of catching a fly, but it hangs around...
I bought this game a few months ago, and I thought it looked cool for a dollar. I popped it in, and was super excited by the graphics, cast of characters, cheesiness, basically the same you were, then I started playing it and was very let down. I guess there's a reason I've never heard of this game.
You wanna know what's the funniest (and ironic) thing about this game? The developers (not Treco) later went on to make Cosmic Carnage. COSMIC FREAKIN' CARNAGE. I wonder what Mark thinks about that?
Game made to ride street fighter 2's coattails mostly sucked because either A: They still didnt know how to make easy to pull off special moves (a'la hadoken) or B: Horrid character balance and did not have the then new combo system SF2 had. So most fights took forever for all the wrong reasons
Back in the day, this game was quite good...early 90's. Maybe some of the people who disliked the game today werent alive and playing games back in 91. I loved the soundtrack, the good old metalic sound of the mega drive. I just dont understand why you said this could be the "next Cosmic Carnage"? This one is a little older than Cosmic Carnage, isnt it?
I just played this game on an emulator to see if it's really bad because it didn't look so to me in this review. And I think that the game not only is playable but it's good. The lack of moves is hardly an excuse to call the game bad.
While I haven't played the game, I guess what makes it so bad (rating wise) is how cool it could have been and how much of a disappointment it ended up to be. Like myself lol.
@DesertFerret7 Can't forget about "Fatal Fury". That fighting game was dope too back in the day...."Fighting Masters" is just.....absolute boo-boo in a cartridge....I hate this game! lol!
LMAO, you forgot the watch mode that was the only thing that kept me remembering this game. you can hold a auto battle tournament and wacht it. Then again a deadmatch with 12 is kinda unplayable 8 or 16 wouldve been bether.
I remember this stupid game - I paid $5 for it at a thrift store and then only played it for 5 minutes total... Then I had to track down my Eternal Champions cart to wash out the sour taste. It all reminds me of those terrible SunSoft console games.
Really loved this game when i was kid. Played this game everyday and really enjoyed this. But last month i played this game with emulator and it was wtf :3 but i loved this game. Will love forever
@2600theeatari Really? I respect that you have the balls to even mention IG anywhere besides his videos, but if you're going to accuse people of ripping him off, you need to leave.
I'm really hoping someone sends him a copy of Fatman/Slaughter Sport before too long. Fighting Masters may be "awesome"; but it is nowhere as "good" as that game.
1: I loved this game, at the time 2: It was pretty terrible 3: There was actually (a very minimal amount of) some strategy involved. As in, Eyesight should have dive-punched in close to grapple. Yeah, this game was bad.
is it as bad as Soulblade on the Playstation 1? before I get stoned, that was a joke. Soulblade is a hell of a game and one of my all time favourites. :-)
oh c'mon Mark just get a new controller and press the A button it will activate the "super awesome mode" and then you'll get 10 other backgrounds, 10 other characters, and a way better gameplay ... - ok i'm sorry, i always think that way when i'm really desperate ._.
Here's a great analogy: Cosmic Carnage's gameplay is bland, mediocre bread and everything else is the juicy, delicious bacon and cheese on top. Fighting Master's gameplay is a piece of shit, and while everything else is that bacon and cheese on top, the wonderful cheesiness and so bad-it's-good factor, you still wouldn't want to eat shit.
Fun fact for you all. The game was actually made by former Technos Japan programmers of Double Dragon and RCR fame who later on made Mazin Saga and *drumroll* Cosmic Carnage for 32X
I actually really liked this game, I wish I could get a good emulator for it.
Try Retrobat
I had this game when I was a kid. Totally brings back nostalgia, I thought it was awesome back then.
I still think it's awesome.
I LOVED this game!
Me too.
What's funny (and ironic) is this game was developed by the same guys that did Cosmic Carnage.
This was my first sega game . Honestly back then I loved it and I still do . Music and characters are awesome .
Sure it is 2 button combat but it was enough for a kid .

i like this game so much...its bad...butt i liked...
I miss this show that Mark used to do.
The strategy is to try to stun and grab. If not, to throw into the wall to get extra hits. Its an awesome game and I'm not saying this just because I'm nostalgic. I don't agree at all with the review.

I also had it when I was 8, and I always called him Dirk the Jerk.
same man.. i want to play again .. D I O rocks!
I loved Dio too! Wonder why lotsa people loved using him. He's apparently pretty popular. Lol.
@@tjjavier love the carnivorous plant theme.
FIghting Msters vs Capcom. Only way to salvage this.
Well, here is the first CGR review that i do not agree. I played this when i was a kid back in 92 and was a very enjoyable experience. So did I, man. Just beat it again on my PSP with Xenon. My first time, I beat it with Dio. Hardest thing ever! Loved every minute of it!
One of the best CGR episodes ever! Never gets old!
at 3:13, "Xenon" looks like it was starting some air combo/juggle, but i dont think the concept of air combos existed yet
i loved this game as a kid, tho even back then i found the game is rather... laggy
my fav is the hawkman guy
a part of me wants a remake of this game for the current gen

can't decide what is a worse obscure genesis fighting game Fighting Masters or..... Slaughter Sport??
Or the Time Killers Genesis port
2:56 I figured it out. If you're playing something in the sound test / music test, the A button fades it out (B plays it and C stops it immediately without a fade-out).
I don't know what's more sad: the fact that the gameplay in this game actually exists or the fact that I figured that out DX
Holly muck I played this as a rental years ago and I had actualy blocked those memories...........thanks Mark for bringing the nightmare back!
I used to love this game. But yea, now that he mentions it, it does not have any kind of strategy at all =P
DIO is top tier.
Also, since it's rare seeing Mark bashing on a game, I think lots of people will actually try this out on an emulator lol
It was so wack it was kinda good
are you going to be doing that classic game room favorite games of the year thing? Cause if you are im looking forward to it!
@2112Burchie
No problem. =)
@19pieman You should see his review of Virtual On for the Dreamcast.
I love his spoof on the normal "put the cartage in the system" opening
I love this game. Bad game? Please! Its original.
The plant thing around 4:00 in looks like one of the mouths on my fly trap which grew up wonky after a night in the freeze - strange thing is, it is the longest lived one too. Thing has no chance of catching a fly, but it hangs around...
The music that kicks in at 1:23 is pretty damned good!
that gold rock character is called Goldrock. i never would have thought of that!
I bought this game a few months ago, and I thought it looked cool for a dollar. I popped it in, and was super excited by the graphics, cast of characters, cheesiness, basically the same you were, then I started playing it and was very let down. I guess there's a reason I've never heard of this game.
@girochin007 Games start with the right to sucking, but being old still doesn't mean it sucks.
The moment Mark dropped the deuce (aka "game") into the trash, I knew this bad-game review was destined for greatness.
You wanna know what's the funniest (and ironic) thing about this game?
The developers (not Treco) later went on to make Cosmic Carnage. COSMIC FREAKIN' CARNAGE.
I wonder what Mark thinks about that?

Damn. A game that's "bad" to Mark? That must've been so bad. Like deadly bad. We should thank Mark for taking the hit it and saving our lives.
I love this game.
I used to love this game as a kid. I have no idea how I'd like it if I played it today though.
Back in the day, this game was quite good...early 90's. Maybe some of the people who disliked the game today werent alive and playing games back in 91. I loved the soundtrack, the good old metalic sound of the mega drive. I just dont understand why you said this could be the "next Cosmic Carnage"? Speaking of Ghostbusters. Mark try out Ghostbusters on Xbox360. Original story and a gameplay that does the GB justice. You would enjoy it like I did.
I had fun with this game. hours hours used yea ya ya godlike yea ya ya :D
0:05 why did you throw the game cartridge in the trash?
Sometimes bad games can be good, in a way to have an idea what NOT to do when you try and make a fighting game.
While I haven't played the game, I guess what makes it so bad (rating wise) is how cool it could have been and how much of a disappointment it ended up to be. Like myself lol.
I love the fact that the plant-like characters' name is DIO.
Would you believe Cosmic Carnage and Fighting Masters were developed by the same companies - Almanic and Alu?
Treco was Sammy, BTW.
Don't forget crossing the streams sent Volguus Zildrohar back to its own dimension.....
you should review Saturday Night Slam Masters, i think u would like that game mark
@DesertFerret7 Can't forget about "Fatal Fury". That fighting game was dope too back in the day...."Fighting Masters" is just.....absolute boo-boo in a cartridge....I hate this game! lol!
@2112Burchie
He hates Ridge Racer 7 IIRC.
those attacking lions would really come handy for unwanted visitors :D
3:58 The monster plant's name is DIO? I'm surprised Mark didn't point that out. Ronnie James is turning in his grave now! R.I.P. DIO!
In all fairness, it could be a planet named after the greatest Honda motorbike ever made
I just love how the very beginning of the video basically sums up the review..
@2600theeatari not realy it was the first clasic game video internet reviews and it's awsome
Crossing the streams in Ghostbusters actually turned out to be a good thing.
TRECO in portuguese is Trinket, that says everything about the company that made this game !
Great analogy @ 3:30. Vintage CGR.
GOLDROCK!
LMAO, you forgot the watch mode that was the only thing that kept me remembering this game. you can hold a auto battle tournament and wacht it. Then again a deadmatch with 12 is kinda unplayable 8 or 16 wouldve been bether.
i wonder if this game can be found Ebayeasably
@kanata91 : Besides Ecco the Dolphin on the Dreamcast.
Agreed... It was a great game, I played so much :D
@2600theeatari Really? I respect that you have the balls to even mention IG anywhere besides his videos, but if you're going to accuse people of ripping him off, you need to leave.
@19pieman and moreover this is Sega Genesis game!!
I remember this game. I wanted Streetfighter 2 so bad but had a Sega and my choices were crap games like this one.
Haven't seen Mark this disapointed since his review of Firefly for the atari 2600.
there's a character called D.I.O? thad be awesome to play as him!
I'm really hoping someone sends him a copy of Fatman/Slaughter Sport before too long. Fighting Masters may be "awesome"; but it is nowhere as "good" as that game.
i dont think anyone would have the time to shout "oh no why am i being attack by lions" before they were attacked by lions
1: I loved this game, at the time
2: It was pretty terrible
3: There was actually (a very minimal amount of) some strategy involved. As in, Eyesight should have dive-punched in close to grapple.
Yeah, this game was bad.
is it as bad as Soulblade on the Playstation 1? before I get stoned, that was a joke.
Soulblade is a hell of a game and one of my all time favourites. :-)
Crazy Taxi and Powerstone reviews please Mark! Woooohaaaah!
oh c'mon Mark just get a new controller and press the A button it will activate the "super awesome mode"
and then you'll get 10 other backgrounds, 10 other characters, and a way better gameplay ...
-
ok i'm sorry, i always think that way when i'm really desperate ._.
If mark says that this game is bad... that is SERIOUSLY ULTRA MEGABAD!
Mark should probably review his reviews
has the guy from Treco arrive yet :P
that game looks awesome
ive liked this BAD game back in the day, even tough it was BAD, played it a lot really, but will never again!
That track at 1:23 sounds like that coudl be used for an awesome trash metal song.
@amlegionpiper
I don't get it.
There's a plant monster named DIO? This game must be awesome, surely you had a bugged copy or something!
I like this game!
@Zacchattack His Forza4 review was more critical!!!
:'( i clicked on the video because the thumbnail made the game look totally awesome
3:14, Mark actually sounds genuinely mad lol.
It should have tried to copy cosmic carnage. That would have been awesome.
@pumping18 The most dangerous yet awesome man in the universe.
