He could have simply said "yes" and then moved on to the explanation. Instead he said "no" and gave the same explanation which is inline with the interviewer's premise.

In past women has to suffer from all the tortures of men while she used to do all work at home..just bcoz she was financially dependent and her parents were not ready for divorce as she has to come to their home..In today's generation also has that same mentality but women became independent..If they get torture by husband & their family they don't bear it & Shouldn't.. Problem is not that women became independent..The reason of divorce is men can't live without torturing their wives.. And if they do wife has all right to take action against her husband..

Her question was "educating women leads to divorces". His answer was "empowered women can stand on their feet ". See the difference? a simple yes is not an answer
Everything was fine and all but he should have started with an yes since he did went on to elaborate how education has provided an alternative for women who are not in a good marriage.
And I believe The reason for increasing divorce rates is western influence, nowadays a lot of divorces are happening which are quite baseless.
