  • Piton de La Fournaise, which means the Peak of the Furnace, is the most astonishing attraction on Reunion Island, which is one of the Vanilla Islands of the Indian Ocean. It's one giant island that is fringed with a road on its lowest altitude surrounded by beach coastline, and has an interior that is dynamic with mountains, volcanoes and dramatic waterfalls. The volcano is active, but a stage has been cleared on one side of the island to let it spew as it will, completely out of harm's way.
La Reunion is a region of France, so it's like being in Europe in the middle of a tropical ocean paradise.
