I got the opportunity to fish with Paduano this Friday. It was one of the best experiences i've had to date. I made a short clip of his technique for everyone to enjoy. As for jigging, I found it difficult to feel the bottom and watching the line did help, but I was never really sure if I was dragging my lure on the bottom or not. I need more practice to really get it. One thing i know for sure is, it works! We were catching while other boats weren't. I am a true believer.
I'm pretty sure every time you hooked a fish, there was a boat going by, what's great is a legend like yourself it doesn't phase you one bit like always Mr Skinner great vid sir.....
Lucky you john..sea bass closed in Massachusetts Sept 8th and was getting jumbos last Thursday but back they went..like you the weather was sweet and no wind..keep up the videos ty
In another video you painted a diamond jig black and outfished the same jig when it was previously chrome, I am still looking forward to a white vs black bucktail fishoff. Great Channel
You have to call them out on the radio and hope to shame them. Thats the only way they will learn. You are responsible for your wake and any damage it causes.
Great to see you back out in your skiff. Always a pleasure to watch. Will you be staying home or wintering in Florida again this year? Enjoyed your kayak adventures.
John, excellent video. Something I'm wondering as it was never really discussed in your books or vids: what's your take on bucktails (like SPRO or your S&S) without a trailer in the surf? I'm in California and our gamefish (halibut, surf perch, corbina) are keyed in on smaller baits such that a trailer might make too large a profile. Would that bucktail still be useful?
I would still use a trailer, maybe a Gulp Grub that matches the size of the jig. I've had many positive reports of anglers doing well on CA Halibut on bucktails and Gulp like I show on many of my videos.
I pretty much adapted all your fishing techniques for fishing LA and orange counties. Gulp and your s&s bucktails work great for halibut and barred sand bass. I use deadly dicks like you do for bonito. One more thing that I wouldn’t have done is use big 6 inch grubs, but I been having lots of luck catching halibut of the surf. Lots of great questions in this video. Thanks john.
John- Why didn’t you use your trolling motor to spot lock on one piece you were drifting over? Is it because the Sea Bass were widely spread, or was there another reason? Thank you. Walter
Great question. 2 reasons - 1) In that current the jig would have washed down-current before ever reaching bottom. 2) I would have been in the way of the other boats, which were all drifting as they should have been.
John, Great trip! I followed your request on another comment here and checked out the cooking black bass video.I'm not sure about the air fry program.Came close a few times but never pulled the trigger.Do you still think they are worth having?..(With all do respects to "Doc").Do you live in Cape Coral in the winter?
Hi John, just came across your channel; have you ever caught largemouth bass on a bucktail? Is the techniques for fishing for Largemouth Bass different?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks John for the reply, I'm going to tie some bucktail swim jigs and give it a try maybe with a boot tail trailer or a craw trailer and see what happens.
There are usually a lot more depth adjustments in the fluking that I do and sometimes the need for heavier weights. The conventional setup with a flipping switch reel does that better for me.
Hey John, are you marking the seabass, or just looking for structure? I'd like to find a place to target them from the kayak, but 3mph currents make your spot a no go ! I haven't found them fishing porgies in the western Sound.
Any chance do you offer lessons? I just bought a boat and keep it at Shinnecock. Would to find someone that can show me what to do. It’s more for my kids. I want them to have fun. Just thought I would ask.
Changing jig-head styles would help negate some of the current factor and allow you to maintain the use of a lighter presentation. A minnow head is not the most efficient when it pertains to drop rate.
What the heck is that Skinner? a tube you say. Did you make it yourself. Never have I seen that anywhere in stores in Portugal. I troll for european seabass and I got to try that. Seasons coming...

Something about that vibration in the snap that makes such a huge difference. Always seems like the fish can feel it from far away. Great video John!
Excellent point.

Thanks for posting John! I have a session, later on this week, with John Paduano; can't wait for hands on training.
Gotta love the Hinckley owners on the east end. They always have the best etiquette...
I use the same technique with Hogy sand eel and flutter pitch jigs. Never realized you could do it with bucktails
Wow those are some giant black sea bass! I've never seen them that big here in Florida. They taste great too!

My absolute favorite way to catch seabass and like you said you really never know what you'll catch 👍. Great video John
Perfect way to end my Sunday... thanks for the masterful video John, great content as usual.
John: Great trip! I love the old Starcraft! Keep the videos coming.
Catchem up Mr Skinner, way to go! Thank you for sharing!
Another great day on the water- thanks for sharing!
Yet another informative video John, thanks for sharing.
I make the same speech to myself everyday in my kayak when the inevitable boat cranks by at max wake speed 30 yards away.
some people are just oblivious. I was out fishing on an inlet the other day and a guys roars by 10 yards away. Not sure what the big hurry was

great intro. enjoyed the step by step tutorial. Thanks for posting.
Great in depth explanations of your techniques, and good to see your face. 👍
Great video John, thanks!
I was watching this without sound and thought John was gonna go run down that speed boat jabroni!
Couldn't catch him if I tried.
Great vid John, another 5 days will be tautog, also a great fish to eat, looking forward to them videos
I use basically the same method for springtime stripers in the bay and rivers here in southern NJ.
Great video!
Can wait to go back LI , next weekend will be , cheers from Chicago !
Thanks for the new technique!
Remember watching episodes of Fred Galafaro on snap jigging. Seems like you need elbows of steel but I see what you mean by down sizing considerably.
Always great informative videos! Still can't figure out why someone would dislike this??? Thanks John
Man them are nice.!! Love me some sea bass👊🏻💪🏻
Great to see you back out in your skiff. Always a pleasure to watch.

Will spend every winter in Florida.
Some people just don't know boat etiquette! Good eating sea bass!
10:53 I usually wave with my middle finger when they do that....especially if I'm in my kayak
Why do you prefer black with white again in this condition? I thought black is work best at night?
Hi John, another great video. Can you use tube & worm surf casting from the shore, or do you need to be in a boat? Fishing on the NOFO.
Tube and Worm is pretty impossible to cast, so it's a boat or kayak thing.

I use the air fryer about 5 times a week. Great for all sorts of things. I'm on Pine Island for the winter.
Would 10 pound fireline work for snap jigging?
Hi John, just came across your channel; have you ever caught largemouth bass on a bucktail? Is the techniques for fishing for Largemouth Bass different?
I have. Almost everything will hit a bucktail. It's very similar to fishing for snook or stripers.

Have you caught any albies this season?
Not seeing any out here.
Where do you launch your boat out of?
Just curious, why do you use conventional rods/reels for fluke but spinning tackle for sea bass?
There are usually a lot more depth adjustments in the fluking that I do and sometimes the need for heavier weights. The conventional setup with a flipping switch reel does that better for me.
Them 5 dollar tip gone specials work just as good
This one does for sure.
What rod properties would be good for snap jigging like this? Also what size reel?
2000-3000 reel, 10# line, 6-6.5' rod.
Thank you. What power and action for the rod?

It did better than the ball head and was what I had.
What the heck is that Skinner? a tube you say. Did you make it yourself. Never have I seen that anywhere in stores in Portugal. I troll for european seabass and I got to try that. Seasons coming...
A common striper technique - tube and worm.
Are you just looking for structure to drift over?
Structure and current.
What kind of fish finder do you use for your min Kota ?
Humminbird Helix 10.
Is the tsunami slimwave 641mh spin rod good for snap jigging?
IMO, No. The taper is too fast.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing meaning it bends too much at the tip?
Yes
You still have the Sea Nymph? I thought you were selling it?
I never had a Sea Nymph. Two 16-ft Starcrafts. 1982 and the current 1974.

Hi sir im your Subscriber from Philippines do you have old fishing rod can you give me one please
Surprised you use spinning tackle and not your fluke outfit.
The vast majority of people who do any sort of snap jigging use spin. Baitcasting gear would probably work too for some people.
