6/11/22 Update: I get many comments saying that there are features in this trailer, that are different than the one in the movie. I just saw this post on a vintage camper group on FB, and wanted to share it with you. The source of this comment knows much more about vintage trailers than I do. *"Actually a real trailer was never used., only set builds based on a 1953 New Moon Trailer, but even the set builds depict many features that real New Moon trailers never offered."* I would also suggest to read other comments on this video. I filmed this in October of 2020. The trailer is not mine, and I was just going by what the owner told me.
I'm certain this camper is exactly what the owners said, vintage & restored accurately, they are obviously passionate collectors. And yes, n Hollywood they do whatever to sets they need to do for sake of filming.
We just loved your showing us your trailer. You have done a lot of work on it and locating items to keep it in that Era. So enjoyed your sharing with us to see. You did a wonderful job on it with heart and soul. We would love one like it too. Thanks so much!
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 In the movie _The Long, Long Trailer_ , the couple played by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnea trade in their old car and buy a new Mercury convertible (V8 engine). Then, they have a trailer hitch attached to the car frame as well as wiring for the trailer lights and electric trailer brakes. That greatly increases the cost of their home on wheels when one of the big factors Lucy used to convince Desi to buy the trailer was all the money they would save on food and lodging traveling to his new job across the country and to other jobs he would get afterwards. IIRC, in the movie he was an engineer just starting out.
In 1953-'54, I loved seeing Lucy & Desi in color, in this very cute movie! I also remember the then, beautiful new Mercury that Desi (Nicky) used to pull this huge trailer!
I see the breadbox and metallic salt & pepper shakers, the light fixtures, the ice box, and the bedsheets. I see my grandparents and a five year old boy like it was yesterday. Thank you so much.
I love vintage trailers. In January 2020, I had to spend a week in Las Vegas on business but, rather than booking a room at a big hotel on the crowded Las Vegas Strip, I went on AirBNB and booked a gorgeous, beautifully maintained 1953 Spartan Mansion travel trailer on a gated property about two miles off the strip that included parking. The hosts actually have two vintage trailers on their property that they rent out on AirBNB, the Spartan Mansion and an Airstream. So cool!
30 years or so ago a man i know was given a long long trailer just like this one, It was in fairly good condition having been parked in the desert since the 1950's but did not have a title. So he was removing the aluminum skin off the trailer for recycling to buy his beer, I gave him $30 for all the cabinets and appliances inside and offered to buy the rolling frame for $50 when he was done ripping it apart. While removing the cabinets & in a drawer i found the original trailer title, purchase receipt & owners manual from the dealer . It was a 1954 California title in Desi & Lucy Arnez's name.. I didnt relate the trailer to the movie or Desi Arnez/Lucille Ball at the time.& it was far too late to save the trailer anyway. It was parked and i imagine abandoned or stored in Lone Pine Ca for many years on an empty lot behind a house in town & used for storage, (Same town where the Movie was actually filmed) someone bought the house & empty lot and wanted the big old trailer removed from the property. The rest is history of an honest & ambitious drunk making some beer money.
A trailer with what looks like a full shower behind the curtain--now THAT was luxury in 1953. This is a nice restoration that took a lot of work and time.
I lived in one of these houses as a kid. That was 55 years ago. It was so small. It had 2 bedrooms. My dad built a new house next to it. It was put out in the pasture for the animals. The last I knew it was still standing 😊
Wow! So cool! I love all the vintage and original furniture and decor they use. They did a really great job making it look new, but still keeping it original. I loved the doorbell! Really nice video! 😊
Oh my God ! Thats a time capsule ! So 50's ! All those colors and artifacts ! The coffee table screams for an art glass candydish . Decorating that place must have been a ball ! Love it !
This is so cool! After years of people telling us to go watch the movie, we finally did about 4 months ago. That movie was one of the best movies I have ever watched. Hilarious! You can tell the new owners put a lot of time and effort into keeping it as authentic as possible. Great find! Thanks so much for sharing this with us all. :)
Love the movie. Seen it a dozen or more times. I grew up in n the late 40s early 50s. I remember so much of the furnishings like yesterday. You did a great job.❤❤❤❤❤
That is awesome, not a Lucille Ball fan, but, 2 years of hard work paid off! I remember those pesky white cabinets in my parents house, during the 60’s, they would squeak when you closed them, and that cool clock, wow, mostly original, great job guys! Happy trails! Happy camping! Happy Wife, happy life!
A friend of mine bought a new house in Anaheim California in 1954. Her kitchen had a red stove and refrigerator, yellow metal cabinets and yellow Venetian blinds with wide red cloth strips. The floor was a checkerboard of red and yellow linoleum squares. On her birthday one year, I gave her a two sets of Fiestaware, one yellow and the other red.
What a treasure! Our very first travel trailer was a vintage. It had the porcelain toilet, real wood, a real bed.. it was lovely. We ended up trading it for a truck camper that was more what we needed at that point. I was so sad to say goodbye to it though and have always regretted it. Thanks for sharing this lovely old gal!
What a wonderful rig. Florida is a ripe hunting ground for vintage trailers. Within a square mile radius of my home, there are half a dozen Spartans, not to mention dozens off other classic manufacturers. Tragically, the parks are being demolished to overdevelop with multi-family units. I've done some documenting by photo and paintings. A collector could find a treasure trove of opportunity here. I wish I had the wherewithal.
Incredible! I am just stunned at how beautiful they have made this trailer; I kept expecting to see Lucy come walking out from the back!! What an amazing job he did on that, I can picture the damage he described and it is just unreal that someone could bring it back to life like they have. I wonder where they actually found the vintage fabric for the curtains, because I don’t imagine it was easy to do. That is so beautiful, I just can’t get over it! Every detail is just so cool!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What a great restoration l do remember the movie and l love the TV a modern flat screen in the original cabinet so many fifties touches l was born in the 1950s but l did enjoy the tour of this very long caravan
@@CampingTherapy The restoration us very well done to keep it as original as possible although difficult you perseverd and made it work and the original door bell has to be the cherry on the top

WOW! Lucy and Desi would be proud. She was my 7th cousin on the Ball side of my family tree. I've seen the movie (The Long, Long Trailor) at least 6 times. I never get tired of it. What a great home to own. 😁😁😁

Oh my gosh! I watch the Long long trailer personally every few months! This trailer is the bomb! My sister and I had those exact style bedspread with the little puff balls. Ours were pink. I love the dial telephone too and the movie really did hold true to the trailer’s design. Super cool!💖❤️
TERRIFIC MEMORIES THANK YOU FOR SHARING THOSE WERE THE BEST TIMES AND ERA WHEN FAMILY MEMBERS ENJOYED EACH OTHER AND JUST HAVING A PICNIC ON THE BEACH WAS A BIG DEAL.
My Dad was in construction so we moved at least yearly following the job sites. This is just like our first mobile home except ours was the length of a bed longer. We were a family of 5. We got a larger (2 foot X 6 foot larger) mobile home when my new younger sibling came along and got old enough to come out of the crib wedged between my parent's bed and the back door. Thanks for the memories.
Such a nice restoration. I don't think many people realize that after WWII, trailers like this were an option to stick built homes and apartments. I'm old enough to remember postwar trailer park communities filled with trailers similar to this. Back then those communities usually had asphalt paved streets and tidy, well-tended yards. There are still nice trailer park communities but they have evolved into double-wide structures that resemble houses more than trailers.
Gosh! I was born in 1953 and I remember a lot of the kitchen stuff--he-he heh😁 My Grandma and my parents had those tin canisters...some stuff I saw at Aunts or Uncles homes, too. And they built things to last back then! All that is familiar to me. They built these trailers to replicate homes back then because that's what they were. Cool. Thanks for sharing
When I was young my father was in the US Air Force, and we had just come back from being station in France. My father stationed in Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma and parents bought a New Moon trailer to live in. The family lived in it for about two years and sold it when we were sent to Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois for school. Seeing vintage trailer has brought back memories. Thank You
Wow! What a beautiful old trailer. They sure did a wonderful job restoring it. We found your channel after seeing you on a live stream last weekend. Glad we did. We will be following along. D&J
This model was meant to be a home, not moved around constantly like an RV. The older I get, the more I'm wanting to sell my home and do something cool (and small) like this! It's beautiful.
From Panama City Florida myself! There is a vintage trailer camper restoration company there my husband worked for a while. Would not be surprised if this came from them… what a beauty! The long long trailer is a favorite movie of ours.
Beautiful restoration. The original from the movie had the u-shape kitchen with the peninsular dividing the living room from kitchen. I wonder if this one lost that over the years or this one just did not have that exact kitchen. Maybe that was for the movie. I’ll have to go back to my brochure collection. (I have a vast vintage RV brochure collection including the 70’s-80’s Trailer Life magazines) to see what the floor plan was originally with the kitchen. Update!! Just looked. Originally there was a u shaped kitchen with the peninsular division. So I guess over the years this one was removed by prior owners. Nonetheless I’m not saying ANYTHING negative about this awesome trailer!! It’s a irreplaceable heirloom that should be treasured for years to come!! This was my favorite movie since I saw it when I was a kid. I would build trailers out of Legos back then after watching the movie.
Also in the movie, but not on real New Moons, was the sunken living room - you remember Nicki tripping on the step. Hollywood often abandons reality. But I guess we'll forgive them THIS time, since they brought us such a great movie.
@@kennethdirks3590 Ahhhh….okay. I asked that question in my post. So the sunken living room in the movie was just made up for the movie and not part of the actual design from the manufacturer? That was a cool feature! ✌🏻🙂✌🏻
@@kennethdirks3590 Okay. Guess the small shower in the movie made the scene play out better him with struggling to take a shower in such a small space. That was pretty funny. Thanks for the reply! ✌🏻✌🏻

Awesome camper.....they are living the American dream for sure..... awesome awesome awesome......and today is April 2024.....
Yep, this was filmed in October of 2020. Thanks for watching.
Very cool to see this cool trailer. Awesome restoration on it. Love the Long Long Trailer movie. Great premiere, Doreen.
Thanks Sue! I'll be watching the move again today.
Thanks to the owners for saving and restoring this history. And thanks to you for the video!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Oh my, that's awesome! I'm moving in! What a great job you did in the decor. Love it.
They sure did!
They really need a rock in there…..just for fun and memories of Lucy. Thanks for sharing
Yes they do!
Excellent! The trailer was so well restored. Thanks.
Truly a labor of love. Thanks for watching!
TERRIFIC MEMORIES THANK YOU FOR SHARING THOSE WERE THE BEST TIMES AND ERA WHEN FAMILY MEMBERS ENJOYED EACH OTHER AND JUST HAVING A PICNIC ON THE BEACH WAS A BIG DEAL.
Glad you enjoyed it.
This is so great!!! Thank you for preserving our history!!!
Thanks Elena. It's not my camper, but it sure is gorgeous!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching 👍

Love it!!! Great job restoring this old gem ❤️
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching~
I could certainly live in one of these. Thanks for watching.
I love this! I feel all nostalgic and fluffy lol
Very cozy. :)
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
I grew up in a ‘71 New Moon single wide. Who would’ve known it would become a collector’s item.
Very true. Thanks for watching
Thank You
You're welcome! Thanks for watching 👍
Wow! What a beautiful old trailer. They sure did a wonderful job restoring it. We found your channel after seeing you on a live stream last weekend. Glad we did. We will be following along. D&J
Thanks so much!
Thank you! That trailer is so nice and they have it decorated perfectly.
Thanks for watching 👍
This model was meant to be a home, not moved around constantly like an RV. The older I get, the more I'm wanting to sell my home and do something cool (and small) like this! It's beautiful.
It would be a cool home. If you read through the comments, you'll see the other people did live in one when they were younger. Thanks for watching.

From Panama City Florida myself! There is a vintage trailer camper restoration company there my husband worked for a while. Would not be surprised if this came from them… what a beauty! The long long trailer is a favorite movie of ours.
Thanks for watching~ I think the owners live in SC, so it's possible.
Can't wait!!!! This is my favorite vintage trailer and movie!!!
I'm going to watch it again. I've only seen it once.
@@CampingTherapy We have it on DVD. I watch it any time I'm feeling down! Its a great pick me up movie!
This is my childhood all over again, except not in a trailer. I'm so glad to see this. Thanks so much.
Thanks for watching~
Thanks for that info! I hope to sit down and have a longer visit with the owner this year. He has a lot to tell about his camper.
✌🏻🙂✌🏻
@@oceanlover3530 yes, and also the real mobile home had a tub (probably with a shower), and not just a shower.
@@kennethdirks3590 Okay. Guess the small shower in the movie made the scene play out better him with struggling to take a shower in such a small space. That was pretty funny. Thanks for the reply!

I didn't know any trailers like the one in he movie still existed. Beautiful restoration.
I saw one recently in a run down mobile home park. Thanks for watching.
Love this, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a beautiful trailer.
I would adore having this rig !!!!The long long trailer is one of my all time favorite movies.I love that the wife is a huge Lucy fan❤️ Absolutely beautiful restoration!
Thanks for watching 👍
It's to bad her kids did not keep the studio going in LA it was history and they sold out to the highest bidder..
Thanks for watching
I really enjoyed seeing this camper. The Long Long Trailer was the first movie at the drive in theater I ever saw. Wonderful memories ❤️
That's cool! Thanks for watching
Somebody had to do it, good job, reenactors know what's nostalgic, and gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, all over......
Thanks for watching Mike
Should have gone with vintage Halloween decorations....would have looked better.
This would be a perfect air b&b. Not only to Lucy and Desi fans but also people wanting that warm feeling of memories at your grandparents. Theres no telling what memories would be sparked
Very true. If you read over the comments, you'll see lots of comments about childhood memories. Thanks for watching
There is nothing I would change about this camper I absolutely ❤️it!!!!
Thanks for watching and commenting 🌻
Brings back memories i had a 1955 vagabond trailer wish I still had it
I'll have to look that up
I love the era of the 50's. I was born in 1954. My heart aches when I see vintage things. I love this.
You should go to a vintage trailer rally sometime.
@@CampingTherapy I'd have a heart attack for sure. Lol
Very COOL. Charming as HECK! I recognize so many things from my now-gone relatives' homes. Back then, things were made to be functional AND beautiful!
Well done on the restoration!! And, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching~
