Jennifer, sometimes you are the wind beneath my wings (so to speak). I just bought a laminator and a few of Heidis' sayings thinking I could only use the foil if it was printed with a laser printer. I figured everytime I wanted to foil something I would have to go Kinkos and have it laser printed. Now I'm over the moon with this new trick you've shown us. Woo-Hoo! I can't wait to try this, I mean gosh, what have I got to lose? Thank you Jennifer once again for showing us your handy works. Hugs
Another cracking video Jennifer. Love your work. I was so excited to hear that you can use a laminator for this technique as I don't have a Minc machine.
Another great video. I love the fact that you do the work of developing a technique and then make it simple enough for everyone to try. These cards are gorgeous. I can't wait to try a few of my own.
I just got a laser printer and a laminator, so today I tried my first foils g project. It failed miserably. I printed the "Happy Birthday" that I wanted to foil, placed it inside folder paper and ran it through the laminator. The words foiled beautifully, the surrounding foil also came off on the paper. not completely, but about 1/3 to 1/2 of the foil.
Did you use an anti static powder bag to keep little bits of clear embossing powder from sticking here and there onto your cardstock? This may be what happened in your case.
can also stamp with the enbossingpowder that works like glue and press the foil against it-works like a charm-i dont have a laminater so i am loving it
Great question. I see no one answered you yet. The answer would be NO the embossing powder itself acts like the glue or toner that is needed as an adhesive to the foil's backing. I myself was searching if Aleene's Foiling Craft Glue would work in place of ink on your stamps then allow to dry till clear then again run through your laminator or use an iron or even in some situations hand press well with fingers to get a good foil to image lay. However I enjoy watching Jennifer McGuires videos so I took time to watch this one when it came up on my search list. Off to find out my answer. But yes I do know the ink UNLESS it's toner ink which I have yet to find any that is will not on it's own versa inks clear or not or versa's embossing ink as sometimes they are referred to. Would be fantastic if they did.
Wow, Jennifer, I didn't know we could use foil and laminator with just clear embossing powder. I thought it had to be toner black images that worked in there. I'm excited even more now. I ordered the Minc from HSN and can't wait to try foiling! Thanks for the great videos you have provided on foils and all the options we can use!
I remember watching this video when it came out, but I had forgotten about using embossing powder to do foiling. I may just try this with my iron. (I managed to kill my laminator, then my mini minc within a week!)
I did it without the carrier sheet and had to buy a new laminator. It wasn't coming out and I tried to stop the process and it was too late. I had done it in the past with good results, but apparently there was a bit of a curl in the card....not sure...but it wrapped around the wheel feeder. I pulled most of it out, but it smelled horrible after that. So just beware.
Going to ask for a laser printer for Xmas, but for now I will be foiling using the clear embossing powder. Grabbed the full size Minc the other day bf Black Friday.
dgmlmax I'm not Jennifer (& not an expert, by any means), but I think the reason for the embossing powder is to provide something for the foil will stick to the cardstock completely. The heat from the laminator re-melts the embossing powder, so it adheres the foil. Of course, if someone has a better answer, they are more than welcome to correct me! :) HTH!
Great video...question...every time I foil using the Heidi laminator there is foil EVERYWHERE on the paper, not just the image. Have tried numerous heat settings, nothing works. Any suggestions to what I might be doing wrong? Thanks...😎
I recently discovered that toner powder and an irock mini iron works too. I use the toner powder as I would embossing powder then stick the image between printing paper, then iron. CAution with the toner powder, it's messier than embossing powder.
So do I have to use my heat gun on the toner power like she uses on the embossing powder or do I skip that step and apply the foil directly to the powder?
+Mark MacKenzie I don't know what stamp press she used because it's not in the description but Fiskars make 2 different presses that I use. Here is a link. www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Fiskars-Compact-STAMPING-PRESS-Stamp-Entire-Project-at-Once-02958-10291
I am totally new at this whole card making stuff !!~~ I know this is an old video..but totally love it and Jennifers work !! She is so easy to follow and listen to!! how do I know if my old regular laminator is too hot?? or maybe not hot enough and do we need a certain foil or anything we can buy??????? I was thinking of trying this love love it!~ thx if anyone answers!!LOL
Hi! Do you know if nail foil would work for this instead of the brand you're using? I'm not able to get stuff like Heidi Swap Minc foil or Deco Foil but I've found some foil online that's for nails that looks similar.
Thanks for the good info -- I'm just getting into foiling, tho' I've had some supplies for several years and recently bought a machine (takes me a while :) Question: where can I find the stamp press you used? I have the really small one and the Fiskars large one but could really use one that's in-between.
Hi Jennifer, I've tried to get this from the same products and machine and I can't get it only maybe after 7 or 8 tries!. What kind of laser copier you get your printoust from??? I guess it's the toner of the Xerox Docucolor I printed from it's causing me problems.... Can you check this for me please??? I've the same foil, I have the same laminator, however results are hard to get. So I started to suspect it's the toner ...
+Alice I printed some toner pages at Kinkos that worked great but when I went to Office Max those didn't work at all. Next time I will ask which machine has just had a new toner cartridge installed.
Is "typing paper" the same as copier paper or do you mean the olde timey thin onion skin typing paper? (ppl born more recently who have never used or even seen a typewriter might not have used this kind of paper before). The weight of your paper suggests copier paper.
Can I use the carrier sheet that cone with the MINC machine when using the embossing power technic, or only the folded paper to protect the processong? I just bought the MINC because your technics gave so many options other laser printer. I can't afford a laser printer at this time. thanks again for being the QUEEN OF CARD Technics!!!
HELP!! I have the mink machine and I've tried it now 3 times.... it does not work. I put the clear embossing powder on, the placed the mic foil on it setting 4.
+Christopher Bickens If you are using the Heidi Swapp foil it will not work except with toner images. Only the Deco Foil type foils will work. I too had this problem and I purchased quite a bit of the Heidi Swapp foil . :(
I have a few foils how do u know if they will work with heat if they don't come in a packet ect?and the ones thay came in a packet will they tell u on that?
Every time I try this, the foil is very thick and way over the stamp line. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? I'm using versa mark, then Ranger super fine embossing powder with Deco foil over it.

I had no idea that you could use embossing powder with foils: that really opens up alot more ideas. Thank you so much!
Jennifer always provides wonderful guidance. The stamp set is great.
Jennifer, you always produce such beautiful projects. I can’t say that the products used in this video inspire me.
Jennifer I just love this! I just bought the same laminator that you are using and was practicing today. Thank you! ❤️
I'm so glad to see that this works!! I had thought about doing it but havent had the chance to do it.
Thank you so much...Yes I am having trouble foiling and this helped me.
Thank you Jennifer easy peasy when you know how! love all your tutorials awesome x
I can't wait to buy these products . YOU ARE MAKING ME WANT THIS SOOO BAD.THERE GORGEOUS CARDS.FOILING IS DEFINATELY THE WAY TO GO

Thank you for this tutorial. You are definitely my go to person for innovative card making ideas.
Love this technique Jennifer.
I'm def having a go at this your a star xx thank you for all the foiling tips

+peperoch2 You can't use Heidi Swapp foils with anything except toner. Deco Foil is what you want.

Just perfect thank you for shairing.
Love this Jen!♥️♥️♥️
What a great idea!

Very pretty card! Thank you

The cards are all very pretty. Do you need to use the embossing powder? Wouldn't the versa mark pad leave a sticky image that the foil would stick to?
dgmlmax I'm not Jennifer (& not an expert, by any means), but I think the reason for the embossing powder is to provide something for the foil will stick to the cardstock completely. Which looks better though, foiled or embossing?
Cool project I might want to try my iron. some good points to help us
I’ve tried and TRIED w my stamps! The flakes just brush right off?
Hi Jennifer thanks for the video one question my RS is not transferring the foil do you know where I can get help ?
We suggest making sure you have the correct foil for your machine. Let us know if that helped!
@@EllenHutsonLLC Thanks Ellen I am new on this foil thing 🤓 can you recommend one ?
Great video...question...every time I foil using the Heidi laminator there is foil EVERYWHERE on the paper, not just the image. Have tried numerous heat settings, nothing works. Any suggestions to what I might be doing wrong? Thanks...😎
What inexpensive laminator would you recommend that does foil beautifully?
I tried the technique shown. But I keep getting foil “static” other than the stamped image. I used a static pouch. Any other tips?
When I put my work through the laminator the foil sticks everywhere what's going wrong?
What kind of foil??
I recently discovered that toner powder and an irock mini iron works too. I use the toner powder as I would embossing powder then stick the image between printing paper, then iron.
CAution with the toner powder, it's messier than embossing powder.
Place the foil like normal, then iron it.
So do I have to use my heat gun on the toner power like she uses on the embossing powder or do I skip that step and apply the foil directly to the powder?
Awesome tutorial. I wondered if you could tell me where you got the acrylic block with the guide on it?
+Mark MacKenzie I don't know what stamp press she used because it's not in the description but Fiskars make 2 different presses that I use. Here is a link. www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Fiskars-Compact-STAMPING-PRESS-Stamp-Entire-Project-at-Once-02958-10291
What brand is that acrylic stamp press block please?
absolutely fabulous! thank you for sharing

Susan Holland according to Kens kreations the laminator has to be super hot
Susan Holland I use Deco Foil
thanks Cherie and Jackie!!
You Cool
What is the company with foil cardstock? I’m part deaf

This is really old. But it's a medium sized Martha Stewart footed stamp press. Hope you were able to get a quicker response than this lol
+torresxrocks Thanks so much for responding! I had decided that must be the one it was but was not certain.
+sara1133 you're welcome :) I also mostly go with the products she uses
I will be trying this soon . thank you
I keep trying this technique, still end up with a few empty spots, will keep trying as I love the end result TFS

Hello Melissa, thanks for the tip. Different machines...Xerox don't work and I can't tell the reason.

Nika Boyce she means the same as copier paper, thin and inexpensive
Nika Boyce I think it is copy paper. I do remember the old typing paper.
Nika Boyce I remember the old ‘onion skin’ paper, too, but I’m sure there aren’t many of us oldies still around!
Can I use the carrier sheet that cone with the MINC machine when using the embossing power technic, or only the folded paper to protect the processong? How do you use the “negative” image foil?
That's a good question. I'd like to know the answer to that too. The negative is so pretty and it would be a shame to waste them.
HELP!! I have the mink machine and I've tried it now 3 times.... it does not work. I put the clear embossing powder on, the placed the mic foil on it setting 4.

How do you deal with the fact that that card you spent so much time on is going to be thrown away?
