I've stopped watching wwe years ago. I still can't separate myself from your wwe reviews. In the middle of the night, absolute troopers!!! Take care guys and have a safe trip home.
Its like the night after Mania where it was Brock coming to Cody's aid to take down Roman was a flashforward and then we've spent 4 months getting to it.
I think the person who said the Bloodline story has jumped the shark was dead on. They gave a lot up last year in the name of Roman’s title reign. Drew, Sami, and Cody were all white hot challengers. Any one of them beating Roman would have been a historic moment - the kind of moment this company would kill to have on their corporate sizzle reels. It’s apparent the plan is for a Cody-Roman rematch at Mania - which comes at the expense of a calendar year of predictable programming for Roman. Predictable isn’t always bad, but they’ve taken a lot of the air out of the sails of his title defenses. His last clean title defense was in July 2022 against Matt Riddle. Every other one is bogged with interference, a cheap finish, and a deflated crowd. At one point Jey Uso made sense as a credible challenger who they could have built up as the successor to this title reign. In august 2023, there was no doubt he was just going in as the next body to fall for Roman’s title reign statistic count. This isn’t to take anything from Roman. His performances are great, he’s the top guy in the company, and he’s at the top of his game. And maybe given their business numbers this is all the right call. But to me it’s flat. Sami and Owens are now in the No Man’s Land dead tag division - exactly why I said their Mania tag win was a cheap consolation prize. Drew may be leaving because it’s clear this company isn’t giving him a run at the top now that the pandemic era is essentially over. Jey’s character has been mishandled and it’s not likely he finds time back in the main event. Now what? All roads lead to Cody, but is that main event even going to be as fun to predict as this year’s? That’s getting ahead of myself, but I think there’s a risk of it all being less special. It feels very WWE to strike gold and then not know what to do with it. This isn’t the end of the world, but they had a truly epic story, and now nobody besides presumably Cody will benefit. Anyways, besides that, I think the show was fine. I like how they’ve handled LA Knight. They’re throwing the fans a bone vs booking in spite of their desires. As long as he’s booked strong, he can remain in the mid card as a viable US Title guy, a good dude to have representing brands like Slim Jim and all that, etc. They’re stringing fans along in the sense that he will never be a major player, but I think eventually crowd responses will plateau and where he’s slotted will feel appropriate. I love the dude as a promo but he just can’t go in the ring and he’s not particularly young. He can have a very nice career, but he doesn’t need to touch top billing. Cody/Brock was strong, Ricochet/Logan Paul was fun, and the rest was what it was. No disrespect to Finn/Seth, but what they’re fighting for feels like what the US Title/IC title should mean today. It’s clearly secondary and I’d rather they just boost prestige of another title than have this “We Can’t Beat Roman” division. Lastly, I think it’s really crappy Becky and Trish had to take a back seat on the company’s second largest show, but it’s not like Triple H has booked the women that well at all of late. He’s not much better than Tony Khan, and that’s a tremendously low bar. As always, great show fellas and appreciate the coverage after what I’m sure has been an exhausting few days. Hope you got home safe and look forward to the next show
Traffic that night looked like nothing compared to a regular day in Chicago lol Love how all the stadiums are so close to each other though, I also went to the Tigers game.
60 for parking??? Damn, i remember from WM years ago the amount of bootleggers with fake shirts every spot was someone selling. Comerica is such a nice ball park, a really good design for a park. Thanks for the work you staying in Detroit for RAW? Can we say Roman for the longest time is in Hogan territory where there is a formula, you dont have to do a lot but just enough with the same near pin and tease of a loss?
What was it like driving to Detroit from Toronto was it super busy downtown? I was considering driving down from Toronto but choose not last minute because of all the driving. The crowd seemed kind of dead on the screen was that because of how big stadium was and how spread out it was or was it just the card and the match not delivering
The drive was pretty easy. We didn’t stay downtown so can’t tell you about traffic too much. But when we drove through it was more than fine. Take the tunnel border.
SummerSlam 2023 was a solid show to say the least. The Opening Match between Logan Paul and Ricochet was a fun opening match. It started a great night for the Paul Brothers with Jake beating Nate Diaz later in the evening. Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar told a story during their match. It was the best match of the card. Smart to have LA Knight win the Battle Royal. WWE can't fumble the ball on his potential. The MMA Rules Match between Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler didn't click at all. It was the worst match of the card. It's a guarantee that GUNTHER will be the record holder for the longest Intercontinental Title Reign ever after winning a very good match against Drew McIntyre. The World Title Match between Seth Rollins and Finn Balor was enjoyable with some callbacks to their SummerSlam 2016 Match. Rollins going over was a surprise to some. The Triple Threat Match for the Women's Title was decent with IYO Sky successfully cashing in after the Main Event to win the Women's Title. Finally, the Main Event was solid between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso. Jimmy Uso turning on Jey was a Swerve that some didn't see coming. One thing that I wish we got on this card was Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar inside the structure known as Hell In A Cell. The match they had on Saturday Night was great but the Hell In A Cell stipulation would've taken it to another level. Overall, I give WWE SummerSlam 2023 a 7.5 out of 10.
The main event was disappointing and the ending was deflating because it doesn’t make sense. It’s unfortunate because the story of The Bloodline has been great, of course. They shouldn’t have passed on opportunities to expand the story with Sammy and Cody. The family infighting has been drawn out to the point that it’s lost its appeal.
How doesn't it make sense? Jey's face is plastered on the poster for the show, he's had numerous videos getting ready for the match, fans been calling him mvp of the saga ever since. It's pretty obvious Jimmy feels a certain kind of way in real life and of course that's being used in kayfabe
I just couldn't fully invest into the Cody/Brock feud because of the lack of the explanation from Brock "I hate your neck tattoo!" That would have worked for me, it would have been at least something
This Summerslam felt like a real meh event for me. Only 2 real good matches imo and the main event finish was nonsensical considering what has happened over the last few months with the bloodline
Boring matches, specifically Gunther/Drew. A sloppy womens match, embarrassing MMA debacle, bland main event with dumb ending, and a decent but paint by numbers midcard title match between Seth and Finn. Big highlight was LA Knights rise. Current regime is battering WWE's good name by prioritizing workrate above all else. 5/10
Shayna vs Ronda may have been the best women's match I've ever seen. The head-kick, the knee-strike, the submission holds...the whole match came off totally legit. The "MMA Rules" were neither pro wrestling nor mma rules, and they could have left out the fake trainers checking on Shayna & getting tossed aside by Ronda, but that's "WWE Sports Entertainment."
