    I thought of the concept of a multidirectional elevator many years ago. However, I would think that it would be more practical in a situation where a building has multiple towers and the elevator would move a considerable distance horizontally to go from one tower to the other. But I suppose that the advantage here is that you have four elevators that operate in only two lanes.

    it wont work becaause when it moves horzontal people will fall down, it doesnt matter how much they slow it down practically

      They would need to add a handrail for horizontal movement
