That black smoke was the sign of your engine going out. I know because I work at GM Technical center in Warren MI, as an HV programmer technician. I used to work on these V series. Replacing engines with only 400 miles on them. The problem is that the engine block is not being cleaned properly after they are made. The fix is just replacing them and hoping you get the good engine.
And that sound was a red flag, if you listen to it again. 🚩 I’ve been seeing CT5s with motors dying too and it’s the same hand built motor. Not the exact same but i think y’all know what i mean. Gotta be a bad part somewhere. I’m sure *gm* is pissed.
@blkwng81 that's true also but you will get a warning sign for such sort if things pointing to O2 sensors picking up the data. This issue what he had or who ever has will not give you a warning sign. If your driving on the road a message will appear which will prompt you to pull vehicle over immediately. That's the only message you'll get but by then it's over for that motor.

Usually black smoke is from the engine dumping too much fuel, or running rich. Running rich will not hurt the engine. Running lean will kill it.
