Oh boy do I have vintage jewelry. When my Mom passed away in 2015, I inherited 4 vintage train cases full of it! A lot belonged to her Mom as well as years of my Mom collecting jewelry in the early 70's for a song. Nobody appreciated that stuff back then. I also inherited her vintage jewelry christmas tree. It's especially beautiful because it is lit with small lights. I found 3 books in her stuff on how to make these trees. I plan to make 2 more of the trees so I can gift one to each of my daughters.
When my husband passed away I took all his ties and made wreaths for my two daughters. Making wreaths our of your things that have a special meaning can be so much fun and creative. My girls just loved there wreaths I made them. They can be left up all year round. I also added some buttons to them.
I made one a few years ago, but I clipped all the hardware off the back of each brooch so they would lie flatter to the wreath. (they were broken anyway, no one was every going to pry it off the wreath and wear it!!). Then I tried to hold each brooch in the palm of my hand and kind of mold it so it fit flatter on the wreath. Yours is gorgeous!
I could not watch this as I love the beauty of vintage costume jewelry whether real or not. I would sew- tie the jewels, bling, pearls with fishing line or double thread onto the fabric bound wreath. Then you can change your mind and repurpose again without damaging the jewelry and just snip the thread or line and the back. Just a thought as a lot of vintage jewelry is valuable and cherished and sought after even broken ones now by collectors to get restored. I love the nostalgia of them.
My daughter made her wedding bouquet using old jewellery, it was beautiful, that was the first time I saw that. She used a few of my mom’s old costume jewellery that was broken. She wore my mom’s old pearl necklace with her wedding gown, that was her something old.
What a fun idea this would be for a crafting party! Everybody could bring their own pile of sparkly treasures and ribbons and work on their wreaths together. Also, I wonder if actually sticking the pins from the brooches and earrings into the foam wreath would help them stay put, along with the glue.
Just found your channel and love this idea. I have a box of my mom's jewerly that I could glue together. I won't do a wreath but maybe something that has the shape of a flower so I can have it up all the time. She did like to garden. Thank you for your idea. I have now subscribed to your channel
Selena what a great wreath! One year I went to visit my creative and fun Aunt, I sat down and remarked at the sweet real tiny tree on her side table. OMG Aunt Carol decorated the tree in her real jewelry, she had wonderful pieces, vintage and new and she said she wanted to refresh her memories, now what a delicious tree any girl would love. She passed but she often is near me, I laugh and tell her I love her❤️.
TIP: When using a foam base, you can use the pins or posts on the jewelry pieces to help secure them. Open the brooch pin clasp and stick the pin down into the foam. Then glue as needed. Earring posts...the same. It makes them much more secure. OR you can snip off the pin/clasp or post with a wire cutter to make the piece flatter and easier to glue on to your base. Cheers! I love the wreath you made!!!
I saved pieces for years thinking I would make a tree or wreath, never did so then finally donated a big box of gorgeous shiny bits to goodwill agg!! Seeing you make your incredible wreath now I’m crying lol, need to start a collection again! You are so adorable, thank you for sharing🤗🎄💗🙏🏻🕊
Beautiful. Many years ago my dads co-worker took my great aunt’s costume jewelry and made a framed Christmas tree with lights. A beautiful memory of this very special aunt who never had children of her own, but loved my dad, mom, me and my siblings unconditionally!
It’s beautiful! I’m going to try it. I’m thinking if you opened the back of the brooches you could stick the pin in the wreath to help anchor it and that would also make it flatter.
Love it! I have a vintage tree my grandma made in late 70s with her moms jewelry and some of hers and she won a blue ribbon with it at the county fair. I’ve got all my other grandmas jewelry as well as the one who made the tree and want to make something else. I’ve seen snowmen, angels and even hearts. Thanks fir sharing!
Beautiful wreath. You can also take ribbon wrapping around your pillow and take the pin and pin the ribbing together making your pillow look like a present.
The wreath is stunning . I love it. It’s a fantastic idea. I wouldn’t want to take it down after Christmas. I would just want to keep it up all year. Go girl! You hit it good! ❤😊
Selena, That is so Beautiful. What a special one of a kind piece. I for sure will be on the look out for broken jewelry pieces. I plan on making one for next Christmas. Thank you for sharing such a great idea.
So pretty Selena! I love using old broken jewellery to create item of beauty. Pop beads, my granny gave me a string of green pop beads when I was a little girl and I wore them every day. I so wish I still had them. 💚 Take care ✌💞
I made a tree last year in a shadow brand new shadow box I found at my local thrift store. I absolutely love it! Seeing those vintage pieces my mom, mother in law and my past make me happy. Now I need a wreath! I made a few shabby chic ones on a wire base last year as well and I added bling to them. I hung them on the sides of my heavy gilded dining room mirror during valentine month of February. I also decorate the chandelier and table. It’s the little things that mean so much. These beautiful treasures pieces of art that we make by hand become heirlooms.
This is an amazing idea! I inherited all of my aunt/godmother’s costume jewelry and I put some of the necklaces and bracelets in clear glass ornaments from Walmart and I hang those on the tree. They’re so sparkly! I also bought a stuffed red felt Christmas tree that’s only about 8” high. So I used all of her pins for that. I just pinned them all over it and it looks super cute.
I totally forgot about “Pop Beads “! So fun! I’m so glad to see a young lady who loves antiques, decorates well and makes fantastic decor! I’m getting overloaded with Home Goods decor otherwise.
WOW....That wreath came out perfect....great idea that I will try for sure....by the way love to watch and listen to you singing....great voice.............blessings..............MINDY
Great job on this project! I am mostly addicted to all things collage. I love treasure hunting jewelry lots and this is the sort of thing that makes me not be able to have craft lots of leftovers. They are craft supplies alright - for me!
That was so pretty. A way that it could be admired all year would be to make it around a mirror. I know you said it was pretty heavy but they have those plastic mirrors that are super lightweight.
Selena, I think you’re my blogger kindred soul, I working on a small tree this year because I didn’t collect enough to get vintage bling to do a big one like I wanted but there’s always next year! It is in a pearl frame!
Gorgeous. I did the same with a large conical shaped foam piece, like a 360 ttree. The fun part was thrifting all the pins and placing them like a collage. I had a ton of cubic zirconia stud earrings that perfectly filled in blank spaces. I also keep mine on my living room coffee table year round.
Amazing what you can do with a few sparkly bits. It’s truly a stunning work of art Selena. Thank you for showing us this how-to project, one that we all can do. Our imaginations will be flying into overdrive! Lol! Now the hunt begins to collect more bling!
I have a box of mismatched and broken jewelry that was my great aunt’s. The plan (thirty years ago) was to make a framed jewelry tree like my mother had. Now it may become a wreath instead. Thanks for the idea!
Spectacular!!! I would find a special place in my home to keep it all year round. Thanks for this great idea. Love your videos and shopping adventures. 🥬
That wreath is absolutely stunning! What a keepsake that would be! I have OD’d on your video’s all weekend and have enjoyed them so darn much! You are so amazing! ❤️👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️
My favourite words of the week " Honker" and "flopper" 👌😂😂😂 This has inspired me SO much. That wreath is so stunning!! You are wonderfully creative. 💘💘💘
Your wreath is simply stunning! I figure I'll be done with mine by Christmas if I start tomorrow which is Valentines Day....... LOL. Seems I always have so many projects going at once I seldom finish any of them.
Your wreath is stunning! I have a lot of dollar tree part of their ribbon collecion -they have jewel ribbon that would work for a particular color your trying to incorporate in a design. Buttons would work too at hobby lobby they have bling ones. Thanks selena for the idea!
Aren't these fun?! Made one yrs ago & it's still just as beautiful. Made a heart shape design on black felt w my grandmother's old jewelry & framed it. It's a fav of course. Love, love your wreath. It's totally you! Merry Christmas!
I have been saving 'pearls' and 'diamonds' for years wanting to make a wreath (but don't have half as many as you). Guess I should step up my saving. This is the best video I have seen! Thanks for sharing. Beautiful!!!!
I love icyblue for winterdecor to. Not red n white. I would love this as a gift. You are inspiering me. I love to knit/ crochet. Might make a reeth to represent what I do!
I made a tree with all old jewelry. Found a lazy Susan with crystals at Home Goods. I ran a little big short on brooches, and found them on Amazon in the wedding section for 12 for 12.00. So if you need lovely sparkly ones... look there!
Selina, that is absolutely beautiful! I love your ideas for other "themed" wreaths. I"ve seen similar wreath and tree forms covered in tiny toys and then spray painted. The possibilities seem endles. Brava! Such a wonderful creation. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I love the jewelry wreath. I have a container of broken sparkling pins and I thought about doing a tree but I think the wreath is more year round decor😍
I have made a couple of those Christmas tree mosaics and I've found that it works a lot easier if you use metal snips to cut off the findings first. Once you've cut off those pins on the backs of the broaches they're much easier to glue down. I also use a jewelry craft glue instead of hot glue. No spider webs! I never thought of making a wreath before. Great idea!
Been trying to make this for years finding all the parts and pieces, old broken jewels. It didn't work without the ribbon cuz hot glue and stryform don't mix. Thanks
You are a wonder. I love your style which I too enjoy in my home and life. The wreath is beautiful!! Your banter is just like crafting with a best friend.
Selena, your wreath is just gorgeous! Thank you for the inspiration. It's just what I needed to go dig through my junk jewelry to see if I can make something out of it.
So beautiful and unique. This is the only vintage broach wreath I've ever seen. Hum...time to get out all my old costume jewelry especially all the ones handed down from my Mom ❤💚💜💙💛
Watching you was fun ,🤗 I am definitely going to make one for my granddaughter for Christmas🎄, because I have all kinds of jewelry that I bought years ago , I have some unique pieces.
Try Pinning the brooches to the ribbon first. Then glue the rest on. If the ribbon is put on securely it will make the pins more secure. It looks great though. Imagine if it were all real diamonds and gems! Ive used these on so many decorations and my fav is a tiny tree in my bathroom decorated with pearls for garland and odd and single earrings. The blue is a great accent color!
Wreaths are my thing! I've made a wreath for every season and holiday. I inherited my Mom's jewelry chest and all this costume jewelry that I didn't know what to do with it. Lot's of bling! I will be making me a Bling Wreath like the one you made on this video FOR SURE! Yours is beautiful!! TFS
Woah...watching your videos..binge watching..lol..&....i feel like...i am looking into a mirror, 30+ years past.......i did then what you are doing now..dressed like a queen/gypsy/milkmaid/fae/dripping in jewels, etc & my house looked like an eclectic Palace inside...some days, others, it was a sea side cottage, or a rustic cabin in the deep woods, others still it was an english cottage, then, shabby chic, maybe a Villa or a Swiss Chalet, & then back to a palace again, Oriental this time or perhaps Persian...always evolving...only..i had black hair & lived on a lake on the tippy top of the biggest mountain here...but heck ya, a lifelong crafter, & i earned it with hard work & tireless effort..hit endless yard sales, auctions, estates, & antique shops, etc etc...i fixed & repaired daily, painted & drilled & glued & sawed & measured & refinished & sewed & wired & reset stones & pearls & reconstructed endlessly, even in my sleep...& soon my lake house grew a few more rooms just to hold all the cool things i found...then..it overflowed & i began setting up the empty house next door to sell some of it....well..Life happens, & out of the blue hubby's company 'downsized' & they cut almost every one of the Senior management, of which he was one, & since it was still off season for selling my paintings, & there was no internet yet, i had to get a 'real job' that had insurance & benefits, asap....Not done yet ;) ..while at work one dreary especially stormy spring day, lightening hit the 'shop' & no one was home, he was off somewhere drowning his sorrows..so..it burnt to the ground..i learned he never put insurance on it ("yet, but i was going to." he said)..& that was the end of the Dream...my own house was far enough away they were able to keep it from catching fire...so..ya....it is so...Refreshing! Heartening! ..to see You living the dream!! YAY! All my Best Wishes for you, lovely Lady...be Smarter than me, keep your eyes on the prize & Go knock em dead ;)
Hi Selina, love this video and it gives me some ideas for the broken jewelry. thanks for showing how it looks as you were putting the items on this too. awesome....thanks. have a great day.

Jaw drop! This isn't a thumbs up "like" but a "love!" Gorgeous and the fringe bobble on the top is the icing on the cake!

Absolutely beautiful wreath. I am 61 and I remember pop beads when I was little.Love watching your videos!!!
Spectacular wreath--what a ring of treasure!
I love this wreath!!!! I decorated candles using this same concept. You can also decorate cones and they look like Christmas trees.
What a great idea. My husband has been bringing home pine cones. I will try decorating them to add to my Christmas decor or give away as unique gifts.
@@islandgrlthrift3853 That is a beautiful idea as well.
I think it would look cute with some tiny sea shells on it too.
The wreath is gorgeous! That would also be cool to do on a styrofoam cone to make a Christmas tree.
That's so unique and creative. It's beautiful and you do it so calmly, talking cheerfully the whole time.
The wreath looks stunning. Wonderful idea.

I love it! And, it could stay up year round. With the colours you choose, it doesn't have to be just for Christmas.
Your wreath is stunning . I definitely want to try this project
It’s beautiful! I’m going to try it. I’m thinking if you opened the back of the brooches you could stick the pin in the wreath to help anchor it and that would also make it flatter.

The wreath is stunning . I love it. It’s a fantastic idea. I wouldn’t want to take it down after Christmas. I would just want to keep it up all year. Go girl! You hit it good! ❤😊
Love it! A sticky lint roller helps with the little glue gun cobwebs.❤
Selena, That is so Beautiful. What a special one of a kind piece. I for sure will be on the look out for broken jewelry pieces. I plan on making one for next Christmas. Thank you for sharing such a great idea.
The dangly piece at the top is perfect. Beautiful!

Pro crafter tip: Always keep a bowl of ice water near by when using your hot glue gun. Such a nice composition of jewels. Love this project!
I'm going to remember this tip. New to crafting.
I have a huge collection of vintage rhinestone jewelry, you have given me the courage to create a new piece, maybe a tree.
That is so cool! What a stunning piece it turned out to be! What a great idea! Just love it!
Gorgeous. I did the same with a large conical shaped foam piece, like a 360 ttree. The fun part was thrifting all the pins and placing them like a collage. I had a ton of cubic zirconia stud earrings that perfectly filled in blank spaces. I also keep mine on my living room coffee table year round.

I absolutely love this wreath. I’ll be on the lookout for old costume jewelry. Now. Thank you!!!!
I made a tree with all old jewelry. Found a lazy Susan with crystals at Home Goods. I ran a little big short on brooches, and found them on Amazon in the wedding section for 12 for 12.00. So if you need lovely sparkly ones... look there!

Great idea! You looked so happy while doing it.
So. Great. Loved this. I'm thinking about doing it for myself now, as well as one of those framed Christmas trees. Beautiful!
So beautiful and unique. This is the only vintage broach wreath I've ever seen. Hum...time to get out all my old costume jewelry especially all the ones handed down from my Mom ❤💚💜💙💛

That would be fabulous!!!! Awww love that idea!
It's so beautiful! I need to start looking for broken jewelry and gather it together! Such an awesome idea.
My Goodwill some times has bags or glass vases full of costume jewelry for one price. That might be a good place to look.
I love the necklace you are wearing. I have one just like that with an amber stone...one of my favorites.
You do?! That’s awesome! It’s one of my all time favorite pieces in my collection ☺️
