@zakumownzu How can you say he isn't the best sprinter of ALL TIME!? He has the most World Cup wins of ANYONE and set, broke and reset world records; 500m, 1000m & sprint points. Like every dominant athlete, they eventually taper off but the fact that Jeremy was the best for so long surely makes him one of the best, if not the best sprinter of all time. And he's going to Germany to coach at the speed skating school there. So sit down mutton!
South Korea won the mens and womens 500. That has never happened before at the olympics. Next year, many athletes from Canada and the Netherlands will train in South Korea for long and short track.
@zakumownzu what about lee who won 4 out of the last 5 championchips at the age of 32! Davis maybe is the best skater because he can sprint and allround at the same time but his middledistances are superb
I didn't mock @ the first post. You interpreted that the wrong way. Some sportsman have the quality to race their best races @ Olympic Season. Some don't, or just have bad luck. Wotherspoon didn't get the best out of himself on the Olympics, right? No blame, no insult... It would have been the crown on his career.
More power, more (or simply different) anaerobic threshold training and the WR will keep coming down. Technology will advance us into the mid 33's by 2020.
@1978utreg Yeah, I guess that's true, I was trying to state that Jeremy stopped dominating. So far, I am most impressed with christine nesbitt, she won the thousand meter in heerenveen by 1 and a half seconds xD now thats a lead
@indivum You're right about Wotherspoon, he is the best sprinter the last 15 years. Too bad he couldn't achieve his best races @ Olympic tournament. That's also a quality you can have, getting the best out of yourself when you need to. There's a lot of pressure at the Olympics, it's just one race.. but a legendary race! But don't say Bos & Wennemars are nothing, Wennemars is two times World Speed Skating champion, you don't achieve that if you're a wannabee!
God why couldn't he have done this at the olympics. I stayed up to watch this "favourite" win and he comes in ninth. Sad. I should have gone to bed, what a waste of time.
@sjampinho Wotherspoon is getting worst, he wont be skating in any world cups this year. The fact that he carries the WR doesnt make him the best sprinter in the last 15 years. Just recently Shani Davis had a 1:06 and I call that the greatest sprinter time. Jeremy has stopped dominating the sport, but he is still highly respected. He is actually thinking of becoming a coach for finland soon. I do like this guy alot, I actually met this guy and he is very humble. He deserves all that respect.
Calgary has the best ice in the world, it's too bad the own the podium program banned the americans and japanese from training there. Shani Davis wasn't allowed to train with Denny in Calgary. I think Canadians could win a lot if hockey wasn't so heavily focused on. Speedskating isn't a national sport as it is like the dutch and south korea.
To even get remotely close to this kind of level you need years of disciplined training. What all these skaters put up with for the entire spring/summer is tougher than you can imagine Saying there are wannabees is just ignorant, especially when they've won other prizes
@deltaecho1 lol untrue i am a speed skater from canada you clearly know nothing about the sport they come to calgary to train on the best ice. And no one on the team has made any comments on moving to Korea lol nice try.
I ve sea this race thousand times.
I still can t believe how good Wotherspoon is.
The best technical skater ever.
Me . Mnogo
Me too. The way he attacks the first corner is beyond everything.
Jeremy Wotherspoon is the Best when it comes to the 500!!! Let the times speak for themselves!!!!
By far the most technical skater of all time. Phenomenal!
Absolutely
wat een rit
geweldig commentaar
prachtige tijd
super gewoon :P
Wotherspoon is for me the best skater ever.
Not the fastest, I know, but his technik is so good.
Like rubberish, not power but in souplesse
Fenomenaal deze race. Perfectie!
Wotherspoon looks like Spiderman om skates. Best performance, without seemingly any effort.
they werent banned from training there. they have many camps in the spring and summer. i train there everyday.
@deltaecho1 well its eight months later and i still see all the national skaters still training right here in calgary

For me nr1 is Eric Heiden, nr2 is Shani Davis en nr3 is Wotherspoon

YAY I have the same last name, Wotherspoon :) :)

perfecte race wat een techniek
that must be so annoying how hes so close to 33 i hope he is able to achieve that
En toen was er Pavel Kulizhnikov
It's not, meldonium wasn't a banned substance yet at the time of the world record.

@MianoPan come again? xD
@gilmorejunio All Time?
Eric Heider..... nuff said

@Shadowhawk25 ik kom nog niet eens 100 meter vooruit, ik ben dan al 10 x gevallen... xD
Scotland, but I'm from Australia :)
Haha Jeremy is like my third cousin (y)

@rickcain2320 haha, sure, ok, then lets go with oskar matheson, he held the best all round point record for 15 years
respect! ik doe er 15sec langer over :S
same dude.
go wotherspoon
@zakumownzu heiden*
