Dark Souls 3 and it's not even close. 6 player limit, invasion zones, covenants, no projectile hell, you can just buy all the consumables you need instead of having to farm enemies or reset at the grace to go pick up crafting materials.
Elden ring from a gameplay standpoint is better with the addition of crouching/crouch attacks/jumping/jump attacks. But literally everything else about the game is worse than ds3. Ashes of war too spammy, magic too spammy, way too many AOEs, only 4 player invasions, no covenants, open world invasions suck, everything does way too much damage at meta level, fashion sucks for anything that slightly protects you, bleed builds are dumb, pata is worse than murky ever was, can’t buy resin bundles (greases), no invasion zones, no gank city. There’s more but now I’m ranting
Yeah, the crafting system throws a wrench into the multiplayer game loop and it sucks they didn’t consider that. It also affects coop too which is why it’s even more wild they left it as is
Yeah I was really hoping they gave us a series of bell bearings for almost everything in the game but they gave us like a few that only cover 25% of everything that you need to craft
Ooh I like this exercise. DS3: + Huge comeback after the horrible multiplayer desert of BB. Invaders had every reason to expect nothing in the following game, and DS3 gave us everything. + Every weapon class had a role. Different combos, distinct matchups, special properties, etc. Not all were top tier but they felt unique from each other. + Melee focus with combos. Adds to combat flow, stamina mgmt, dual wield setups, and team fights. - Too many abusable griefing exploits. Fog walls, elevator buttons, and ladders everywhere. - Disconnects and disconnect culture. It’s funny until it’s boring. - Like you said, some archetypes just suck. Bleed got over nerfed, Quality suffers for damage unless you use twinkling weapons, and you have to cut off a toe IRL to get good caster damage. Elden Ring: + The compass rocks. Probably ER’s best addition, even if I like hunting people down in DS3. + Most significant post launch support of all Soulsborne games. People used to point to DS3’s poise patch as the most significant/game-changing patch they’ve ever made. In ER we got Wex Dust, near-universal R2 speed buffs, and like 5 different poise patches. Sure some of the patches felt directionless by comparison, but ER definitely feels transformed from launch. + Rebelancing of returning weapon classes. Whips have seriously good options, axes got some major speed buffs, single SS and CS are way more balanced. Hammers got shafted unfortunately, but the rest of the classes generally ended up in a good or better place. Ignoring thrusting swords. - Projectile hell. It’s the main thing making invasions a tiresome, repetitive slog. Every fight feels the same. - Buildcrafting homework. The game is so huge that it wears away people’s patience to make new builds. Even if you have the energy, you might not even have the time for it. - Mechanical dumbing-down. Why did they kill free aiming with these stupid dead zones. How is being locked to specific aiming directions enjoyable to the player, did Fromsoft have a trauma flashback to DS1 four-directional rolling or something? And why do attacks track so insanely well, did we forget that narrow hitboxes were designed to be narrow for a reason? Hoping they learned something from the 2+ years of post launch support for ER. Maybe the next game will be what we all want it to be - jk, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. If it’s functional on launch I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
idk how disconnects are handled on console but i assume they should work the same on PC, if you disconnect to much your current character can lose the ability to play with others entirely. I got even punished for hosts disconnecting on me what is weird.
Super good point about ER being a completely different experience PvP wise from launch. Let's hope the next game is as refreshing as DS3 was after BB lol
They say generals are always busy fighting the last war, and Souls enthusiasts are always trying to play the previous game. This is one of the reasons I was so reluctant to publicly criticize Elden Ring's PVP - I wasn't sure if it was truly bad, or if it just... wasn't DS 3. At this point though I feel pretty confident saying that ER's PVP is bad, but it sucks because the core gameplay loops were all improved. ER has richer movesets, it looks better, it has more build variety, larger worlds, etc. The restriction in player count hurts a lot, and they buffed spells way too hard.
Amish, you are truly one of the wizest of our little PvP family. You are the guy that really got me to hone my ability in these games, and it made me enjoy them on a whole other level. Hope you are doing good man
I think ds3 is better, when people mention the “ds3 situation” when we all played ds3 for as long as we did before ER came out I think that’s a testament to how great ds3 really was and ER doesn’t have that same flair for longevity
I dropped elden ring invasions a couple months ago. Mainly due to the bossfogs like you mentioned. I can deal with most of the other problems but sitting through a half hour of bossfogs just to stomp some poor pvers in 2 or 3 r1s isn't satisfying.
I don't see myself defending Elden Ring pvp whenever the next big souls game comes. And that's because Elden Ring was meant, designed, and incentivized to be huge and without boundaries. So we got a lot of stuff that is unique, and fun (mostly), but we did not get any limitations for the player's own good. And that's my problem, the fun I wanted to have in Elden Ring is not there because most players I invade or duel in the colosseum are using the "samey" build from a youtube video, and there's like 5 people in the world that are actually roleplaying or doing a thematic build. So even if lag or phantom hits weren't an issue, I would have gotten tired of the way people play this game. It's nice to have freedom to play however you like, but its unrealistic to believe that all ways are equally fun or practical. Limitation can be used to create a good game, just look at Sekiro. That game has a lot of limitations, and has a review score of 93%. And even then, I do believe that Elden Ring pvp can be amazing, but only if the limitations come imposed by the player's agreement: I prefer dueling my friends in the colosseum or doing coop together, don't really mind if an invader outmatches us but wish that 2v2 were more frequent. I have even joined streamers for a 3 v 3 fight in the colosseum and it has been incredible. You really start to see the potential of this game when you get to experience those modes. It's just disappointing that the way things are makes it so playing with strangers is unbearable, most of the time, or impossible as colosseum matchmaking is objectively garbage and invaders cannot chose their invading areas as coopers can.
There could have been special zones for pvp where the limitations you describe would apply. ie. they could have just prevented invasions in the open world for instance. Doesn't just have to be a gentleplayer's agreement
Dark souls 3 pvp is still my favorite. If they continued on patching the game and fixed various glitches like the estus glitch and buff lesser/niche used weapons a little bit more (these are usually hybrid weapons), I would be a happy man Hybrid builds also suck but they always underperformed anyways. If the remaster is real, I hope they do these things
I think Elden Ring is more preferred for gank squads. in DSIII, due to the streamlined/linear experience, you can far easily get behind enemies and have them involved in the fights. As opposed to Elden Ring where the open world already makes this so much harder. (No Elden PVP expert in any way), but it seems that Elden Ring you can far more easily One shotted/ blendered to death. Even though Roll spam in DSIII might be OP, it's the best tool against getting blendered.

PvP when it comes to mechanics and skill Elden Ring would win by far IF THEY would nerf the damn L2 button. Elden Ring has huge potential to be the best souls PvP game but the devs do not give a damn. I played DS3 to much to say that it has amazing PvP. This is just true, especially late game DS3 pvp was the most annoying thing ever (Murky Hand Scythe, PKCS) Honestly felt like a game with almost no variety, super passive gameplay with regen etc etc. I really dislike the current state of Elden Ring but I just can not bring myself to like DS3 PVP the slightest. Yes we had 3 vs 3 and covenants but guess which game did it even better? Ds2. All in all, I hope for one final patch for Elden Ring for a 3 vs 3 mechanic...
Dank Souls 2 edit: 33:36 Also Dark Soles 2, it even got the blue re-skin from the promotions of the dlc. but for me it has the best move set for both 1h and 2h. a pretty solid weapon to use.
Yes. Thats the correct answer. Ds3 pvp is 100% the best souls pvp, weather YOU like it or not, it OBJECTIVELY had the most positives MORE than negatives, elden rings pvp is too spam heavy, ds1 is just a backstab simulator, and ds2 has some of the worst jank and hitboxes in the franchise, ds3 has TEAMS, 6 player co-op, covenants, actual DECENT net code, when somone is laggy for me in ds3, its NEVER as bad as a laggy player in elden ring (at least for me) thats probably also cuz there isnt as much "easy spam" in ds3 for lag warriors to abuse, there was an actual SKILL gap with combo weapons, out spacing your opponent by unlocking on, and actually KNOWING what your weapons can and CANT do. Every weapon cant do EVERYTHING like in elden ring, weapons are like tools in ds3, each one has a very specific counter, and purpose, elden rings "ashes of war" system is VERY cool, but it kinda destroys pvp in a way cuz every weapon can use almost any ash, which yea, keeps the game interesting, but it also lowers the variety of ashes you see, i almost NEVER see a ashes of war that are off meta, in ds3, if a weapon itself is good, but its weapon art isn't good, you may STILL see it get used cuz its the ONLY option, it forces a player to learn "well if this part of my weapon isnt that good, what parts ARE good?" Instead of just spamming L2 or whatever is easier
I like caster melee hybrid but trying that in ds3 felt like hot garbage. And even just doing casters in pve felt like an after thought. Hard to go back once your goven things. Crouch and jump.

PvP in from games is so interesting, but they can't handle the technical side of it at all, balancing, glitches, connection issues, other quality of life options. I have completely given up on fromsoft pvp, I only play these games for the pve aspect which in itself is an exceptionally great experience
Dark souls 3 hands down. Lately Fromsoft has been really fumbling pvp in their games. Look I know their primary focus is pve content but FFS FROMSOFT REALLY?! 4 max players in er and the only way to invade is if they already have someone in their world? Oh and don’t get me STARTED on the GODDAMN TAUNTERS TONGUE! That item is proof that someone in Fromsoft Hq has a hatred for invaders in general. And if you think ER’s pvp was bad wait till you see how horrible AC6’s pvp was. It was so GARBAGE that it literally only took ONE WHOLE MONTH for the game to die. Fromsoft better come out and say that they fired the genius behind these horrible decisions because if we get even WORSE PVP in the next game? I’m DONE with them!
Bleed has been nerfed, sure. There are still hyper fast builds that can 2 hit proc though. So no, it's not exactly fair. It's legit one of the most brain dead game styles in the history of souls.
My advice to any bystanders on the fence about doing any Souls PvP: play another game - don't get roped into the "it's so unique bro" rhetoric. You still really wanna try it? Wait for the next game, it can't be more than 2 years away. TGA reveal for real (my uncle cleans toilets at Fromsoft).
Makes no sense, look at ac6 it's only gonna get worse. Meanwhile older games will loose even more players by the time another souls comes out. Get a souls when it's on sales, or indeed play another game with better devs. Don't wait for a miracle.
they aren't unplayable. you can compete against a majority of setups by playing around the poke or staggered r1s. against top players? very difficult to win but not completely impossible. against the overwhelming majority? definitely useable and actually very good in invasions. you need to learn how to play them that's all.
Elden ring is a better game overall in terms of everything except pvp, I don't think ds3 is even in the same realm as elden ring in terms of an overall experience
I hate how broken it still is because people animation cancel so it makes me feel guilty to use the weapon at all even tho i do it more fairly and no glitches
Unfortunately, neither DS3 nor ER can accommodate my New Zealand connection and therefore returning to either of them for PvP only amounts to misery. At least I can still roll catch in DS2.
Elden Ring had the potential to be better, but the lack of balance ruined it. DS3 you can much easier win with anything. Try using a mace + shield in elden ring 😂 works great in DS3 though, and so on.
Ok please do not bring back boss runbacks. They absolutely suck. In DS2 it was a damn pain to the point I rarely even play it anymore. Bo boss runbacks are actually thr best thing Sekiro and ER have done. Do not reverse that please.
@asdergold1 I enjoy the levels. I just don't want to run through it for the 50th time cause I am stuck on Ornstein and Smough or Sir Alonne. Bosses are fun. Well designed areas are fun. Repetitive boss runs are not.
Bro is including pc mods wtf. No elden ring adds a few good things but like maybe 5 or 6 but is literally worse in every way compared to ds3. Literally the pinnacle of pvp in ds3, everything every style had a counter, it was a veterans pvp experience. Elden rings probkem is that fromsoft made an open world that was too big for fromsoft to activeky balance, they were always slow on patches to bwgin with. The linear style they always have done is what they should stck to
At DS 3's launch I heard all about how much better DS 2's multiplayer was, and how DS 3 had no poise, and From needed to patch DS 3 to bring back poise. There was a lot of feedback exactly as Jager described.
In PvE, most people hated DS2, and just about everybody considered DS3 better, but in PvP, many people lamented the death of slow strategic multiplayer. They complained about lack of heal punishing and fog walling. In DS2 the heals were slow, so u could barely heal in PvP, same for no fog wall s, since u can be hit out of it fog walling was rarer. People take time to get used to newer stuff.
Yeah and all these people trying to cope with the fact that DS2 is better and they have started to realize all these years later are lying through their teeth about how it was. Next they will say that "it was Scholar that ruined it!!!1!" In no way did either of those things happen. Get over it, you were wrong.

YES! TAUNTERS TONGUE FIX PLS
Ds3 clearly the goat. Also pls fromsoft bring back xbow
Ds2 pvp is the best ❤
Real
that grab @ 7:14, nightmare inducing
DS3 is better for sure. I enjoy elden ring pvp but DS3 was so much better.
Ds2 has the best longsword
31:40 ok you have convinced me that's the....
oaAAHHGUHHHHHh-..... part of playing Elden Ring
Dank Souls 2
edit: 33:36 Also Dark Soles 2, it even got the blue re-skin from the promotions of the dlc. but for me it has the best move set for both 1h and 2h. a pretty solid weapon to use.
22:41 omg you just sent me back
I honestly believe ds3 is the peak of ds dueling/tryharding.
I like caster melee hybrid but trying that in ds3 felt like hot garbage. And even just doing casters in pve felt like an after thought. Hard to go back once your goven things. Crouch and jump.
ayo, what tablet did you end up getting? 👀
@@achaziel the XP Pen Deco Pro Gen 2 in the largest size. It doesn't have a screen, but I draw on my computer screen, so the vastly lower price was a steal
@@SgtJager00 huh, apparently it's not that much cheaper than a Huion Kamvas 13 - provided I didn't google the wrong XP Pen tablet, you could've gotten a 13 inch screen tablet for just ten bucks more, it's currently 25% off 😬
then again, I used to draw on that type of tablet myself for years - it's a learning curve, but you'll get used to it in no time, so there shouldn't be any buyer's remorse here.
@SgtJager00 man, it's crazy how cheap these things have gotten - I still wince at the thought of how much I paid for a large Intuos 4 back in the day. The adjustment period is a bitch, but you'll get the hang of it eventually.
That being said, I think you could've gotten a Huion Kamvas 13 monitor for roughly the same price rn, seems like they're having a sale currently
Also how about doing some pve challenges with pvp enabled or somehow playing into the challenge
With all souls games
Bleed has been nerfed, sure. There are still hyper fast builds that can 2 hit proc though. So no, it's not exactly fair. It's legit one of the most brain dead game styles in the history of souls.
i only really miss hornet ring animations..
imo elden ring invasions gonna feel much better once the cod kids leave
My advice to any bystanders on the fence about doing any Souls PvP: play another game - don't get roped into the "it's so unique bro" rhetoric. You still really wanna try it? Wait for the next game, it can't be more than 2 years away. TGA reveal for real (my uncle cleans toilets at Fromsoft).
@@kimlee6643 if we get another souls game in 2 years I’d be very happily surprised
Makes no sense, look at ac6 it's only gonna get worse. Meanwhile older games will loose even more players by the time another souls comes out.
Get a souls when it's on sales, or indeed play another game with better devs. Don't wait for a miracle.
I played DS3 for the first time last year, and there was still so much activity. I'd recommend that for pvp in a souls game.
Ds3. Next question😂
I hit more walls in DS3 than I do enemies because of the horrible hitboxes.
Sgt whats up brodie what do u think about doing some ds2
It’s Elden Ring. Have a nice day.
If only ultra greatswords didnt feel basically unplayable in ds3 pvp.
Ultras are all about standing your ground and mind games, except the Farron great sword. that one is just spin to win.. and avoiding being parried.
they aren't unplayable. you can compete against a majority of setups by playing around the poke or staggered r1s. against top players? very difficult to win but not completely impossible. against the overwhelming majority? definitely useable and actually very good in invasions. you need to learn how to play them that's all.
DS3 > ER, my vote is cast. Maybe biased cuz' ER PvP makes me physically ill.
Elden Ring: i do have true combos 😠
Dark Souls 3: what about infinit combos? ☠️
27:47 said it
Coughing balance vs nuclear 6 players limit
ds3 free aim
ds3 better cause murky
What’s the best level for PvP activity in DS3
Anywhere from 30-60
Elden ring is a better game overall in terms of everything except pvp, I don't think ds3 is even in the same realm as elden ring in terms of an overall experience
ER was better until From decided to make it a bad version of Ds3 with patch 1.10
Come play PTDE, we have cool tech and custom arenas
Elden Ring is one of the games of all time
It's dark souls 2
No need to watch the video, Dark Souls 3 is better.
elden ring 1v1s are better
the true darksouls pill is that miyazacki intentionally killed ds3 pvp by not fixing rkss to promote elden ring further
I hate how broken it still is because people animation cancel so it makes me feel guilty to use the weapon at all even tho i do it more fairly and no glitches
2:11 WE GON FIND OUT SATURDAY NIGHT BRUDDA
-max holloway
Elden Ring has better systems but horrible balance for these systems.
DS3 > ER
Unfortunately, neither DS3 nor ER can accommodate my New Zealand connection and therefore returning to either of them for PvP only amounts to misery.
At least I can still roll catch in DS2.
Ds3
lfg more artist jaeger time
Elden Ring had the potential to be better, but the lack of balance ruined it.
Then go play a game that only has boss fight, man.
@asdergold1 I enjoy the levels. I just don't want to run through it for the 50th time cause I am stuck on Ornstein and Smough or Sir Alonne.
Bosses are fun. Well designed areas are fun. Repetitive boss runs are not.
So true. Its not like you completely clearing the level every time you die to a boss. Just a waste of time.
Please begin working on your own souls game
As a Elden Ring supremacist, I will concede that Dark Souls 3 had better pvp. But Dark Souls 2 had the best pvp.
The linear style they always have done is what they should stck to
Too much yapping about DS3 and ER, but when are you gonna make it to the superior souls PvP, Bloodborne.
LMAO only a small minority ever praised 2 over 3. Nice bait tho, made me comment.
At DS 3's launch I heard all about how much better DS 2's multiplayer was, and how DS 3 had no poise, and From needed to patch DS 3 to bring back poise. There was a lot of feedback exactly as Jager described.
even oroboro made a rant video about ds3 when it got realeased.
if you want to see it, the video name is "My Thoughts on Invasions".
Next they will say that "it was Scholar that ruined it!!!1!"
In no way did either of those things happen. Get over it, you were wrong.
#freevykeguy
DS3 had the superior stealth gameplay for me, i understand why you only go invisible when you crouch in ER, I just don't like it
Please make DS2 PVP content.
Elden Ring by a country mile
