- In 2015, England's last golden eagle died in an unmarked spot among the remote eastern fells of the Lake District. It was a sad day for the nation's wildlife, but efforts to fight for nature, to restore and preserve this landscape have already begun.
‘Wild Fell’ by RSPB Haweswater Site Manager Lee Schofield, tells this story and is a call to recognise the solutions for a nature rich world.

Congratulations to Lee Schofield for winning the Richard Jefferies Award for nature writing and his sense of place conveyed in his splendid book, WILD FELL.
Just finished the book, absolutely loved it, keep up the good work!
Having been to Haweswater a few times, on the way to Scotland from London, I really appreciate Lee’s dedication and others like him to protect such a lovely place, more strength to you!
Beautiful place. Spent many hours volunteering here a good many years ago when the golden eagles nested in Riggindale. Met some wonderful people and made good friends. Hi Shack, ey up!
I have bought the book and it is really readable, I am finding it fascinating. It would be really lovely to have a labelling system to help the public identify and purchase meat that has been farmed in a really sustainable way, with wildlife, wild landscape and carbon capture at the heart. As a meat and dairy reducer this would be wonderful.
Absolutely fantastic 👏 👌 😀 👍. Animal loving people are my kind of people 😀 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Great man and an interesting read.
Just reading the book and loving it. Hope to visit soon.
Excellent book.
I believe Lee Schofield has now left this role, and has moved to a similar role on the nearby Lowther Estate......
