I had an Anglican rosary custom made several years ago back before I came to Holy Orthodoxy. After listening to this history, which I had previously unknown, I began praying the Paternoster on these beads, and saying "most holy Theotokos, save us" on the gaude beads. It has already helped me immensely in my struggles through early drug withdrawals. I never knew what power the Our Father had. I guess I should have figured.

I’m in a very Catholic/Orthodox friendly part of the US but I like the idea of a pretty incognito prayer aide that isn’t immediately recognizable as a Catholic rosary or an Eastern chotki.

Devotion to our Lady was more pronounced and emphasized in France where many shrines, pilgrimage sites and churches were named in her honor. The most famous church in France, Notre Dame de Paris, is dedicated to Her. The Rosary was once called our Lady's Psalter. It has been brought down that our Lady gave St.Dominic what we now know as the present Rosary, in order to help him combat the Albigensian heresy in France and northern Italy. At Lourdes, our Lady not only appeared to St.Bernadette and prayed the Rosary with her, she corroborated the long held, traditional doctrine of Her Immaculate Conception.
Many thanks for your edifying videos. I have a question: do the Western Rite Orthodox practice the Jesus prayer? I am Eastern Orthodox, and it is central to my prayer life. Did our Anglo-Saxon forbearers know about it? I’ve never heard it mentioned in any of their “lives” or writings.
No, the Jesus Prayer in hesychast style is an eastern practice. As he said in the video, they repeated and meditate the "Our Father" (Pater Noster) prayer while working or walking. But their intention was the same, as Saint Benedict explained, they wanted to commune with the Divine Light "With *eyes open to the deifying light* the innermost heart *expands in God* as members of the cenobium learn to honor and revere what they see each other becoming." (Rule of Saint Benedict) According to St. Gregory, Saint Benedict, while praying in the middle of the night, *“beheld a flood of light* shining down from above more brilliant than the sun, and with it every trace of darkness cleared away.” The saint then saw the entire world enveloped in a single beam of light, and the soul of a bishop he knew being carried up to heaven. Benedict cried out to his guest, the deacon Servandus, who came up in time to see the last of the vision. St. Gregory, in explaining the vision, states: “All creation is bound to appear small to a soul that sees the Creator. *Once it beholds a little of His light* , it finds all creatures small indeed.” St. Benedict’s vision of light presented a theological problem for Western theologians, who equated seeing God with seeing the divine essence. So, even if they didn't had the Jesus Prayer, or Prayer of the Heart specifically, the "innermost of their hearts" (that the eastern called _nous_ ) were open to receive God in his divine light. They had the same faith, but a different praxis.
People are looking more to spiritual practice and meditation to combat the zietgeist and tumult of the world and this is one way to meditate on the gospel and calm the mind, they are very astetical and to help quieten the mind and soul ...use them in many ways and make youre own formula of prayer !
