OOH! I'm so thrilled he mentioned he auditioned for the role as the Fourth Doctor! 😉 It's one of those tidbits I wish more fans knew. Had they not "discovered" Tom Baker, the idea was to have the Doctor return to the concept of a tottering old "thinker" with an "leg man" similar to Ian Chesterton. That's why we got Harry Sullivan. The production already drafted the character dynamics and then came along the "young" and vital Tom Baker which, sadly, made Harry's role a bit superfluous. Still, if the commentaries Tom has done for the DVDs and Blu-Rays are to believed, he was happiest when Liz Sladen and Ian Marter were part of the "TARDIS team", and truly lamented the production dropping Harry/Ian. Back on point, in another reality Cribbins could have been the Doctor to follow Pertwee. How wild is that?!
Yeah, now I’m thinking Bernard Cribbins would’ve been the 4th Doctor instead of Tom Baker. His era would be the same as it is in our timeline, despite slight alterations. I bet he would’ve worn the rainbow scarf too. The dynamic Bernard Cribbins’ 4th Doctor would have with the likes of Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Ian Marter as Harry Sullivan, Louise Jameson as Leela and so on would’ve been more magical, believable and wonderful. Imagine the final few episodes of the 4th Doctor’s tenure (especially “The Keeper of Traken” and “Logopolis”) with Bernard Cribbins giving his all in his farewell before Peter Davison takes the role of the 5th Doctor - back in our normal timeline.
Bernard Cribbins a little Jem of an actor, one of Britain's best actors of the late-1950's1960's-1970''s in my humble opinion, his talent ranged from comedic to serious character acting, as well as voice-over's, TV shows, he could even sing, two of his most popular songs were 'Right said Fred' and 'Hole in The Ground' as well not bad not bad indeed, a British national treasure no less, a time when you didn't have to plug in your toothbrush just your radio!
@@connie_360 you've probably learned this by now, but just in case they were imaginary small creatures that lived in a very large area of London parkland called Wimbledon Common and were probably amongst the earliest recyclers, all as part of a series of short children's programmes. Bernard narrated the stories and was the voice of all the characters, think he sang the theme tune as well.
As you probably already found out, he did, but sadly his scene in "Wild Blue Yonder" was all he was able to film. They'd actually written more for him, but he was too sick to do any more than what he did and he died not long after that.
I always wanted and still want an episode set in the multiverse(think family guy/red dwarf style universe hopping) where we see pete's world(with meta crisis doctor and a dr who existed there before mc) shalka and cushing heck even make this one universe where cushing invented regeneration became the first time lord found a home on galafriey trapped the masters energy in a robot body became an exile forced to regenerate in reg and work for the time lords(i'm thinking of a shalka line that was something like why did the send me here) this could lead to an alt genesis of the dalek which triggers the time war(i always wondered if slowly it did? If so did the daleks know the dr during daleks or did genesis retcon the timeline?} and reg meets mc
Bernard your a national treasure!
Love all your films & especially your voice overs.
You was always a good story teller...
Live long & prosper.

I think I am right in saying that Bernard will never be replaced.☺️
Man, I wonder how he reacted to seeing a Dalek again when he was casted back in Doctor Who Series 4.
Watched it recently. Bernard is a livingTV legend. Such a talented and nice man.
RIP Bernard.
Bernard Cribbins - Utrinque Paratus! (Loved The Wombles too)
What is the Wombles? I only know Bernard as Donna's grandpa

"Hurhump......ah yes Young Wombles, get Wombleing, and get me a copy of The Times......." lovely!
Funny that he references ‘Ramsey Street’ when he died the day before Neighbours very final episode aired.
Don't forget 'The Mouse on the Moon'.
Bernard was 'The First Man' before Neil Armstrong.
Bernard, we salute you.
Yeah, 'the mouse on the moon' yeah hadn't forgot that one either, a lovely little British film.
@@ColtDee Still remember the anthem of The Duchy of Grand Fenwick:)
Oh man. Found out today, NYE 2023. I had hopes he was returning with Donna. Guess not 😞
He is but it is the last role he’ll ever play
They've been saying it's a small appearance but he is there@@charlierenwick3682

RIP.
Could not have been Jon Pertwee that’s was approx 10 years later

Shalka Doctor is now canon to the main universe lol.
