The Home Office gave her a student visa based on the fact that she is comingʻ to study. She knew that she had kidney issues when she applied for a visa. From their perspective it looks like she come to receive free treatment and used the student visa as the avenue to come to the UK.
I feel for her. I'm not sure if she can still fight for her stay because she's not a student anymore & the university has reimbursed her. What visa would they grant her if she applies to extend her stay 🤔 I don't think the NHS can treat her if she's fit to travel back to Nigeria unless she pays for her treatment. That would mean her visa should be for a patient receiving treatment. But she has to prove that she has enough money for her treatment. If she requires a life saving treatment, meaning an emergency or not fit to travel, she can be treated & pay later. Having no good facilities in Nigeria would not be enough reason to be treated as NHS patient or extending her stay in the UK It's my opinion based on similar cases I know about. She should not give up, God can do wonders
How about If I am a foreigner study in Nigeria n I am sick. Do I get free treatment in the hospital in Nigeria??? People know they get free treatment that is why alot of people come to uk for free hospital treatment. Nigerian government will NEVER give free treatment to their own people let alone foreigner. So people be grateful. I believed she knows she can go to hospital for free b4 she comes to uk NO NO NO it is not fare for tax payer to pay Saying the university ha no compassion. Try going to Asian, African n America NO WAY YOU GET FREE TREATMENT
@@HolupinlaHolumideshe did but that wouldn’t entitle her to unlimited treatment forever. It’s only to cover her for the period time she stays in the country. She has some money now from the university so she could use that to pay for her treatment.
According to the BBC's website about this story, it is not the illness itself why she stopped her studies. The university had given her the impression she would be getting a scholarship to fund her PhD, but no such scholarship materialised after registering at the university. So, she finds herself unable to pay all her school fees. Meanwhile she got sick after handing over £13000 for the 1st year fees. Which she only got back after appealing to the ombudsmen. So the government wants her to leave because she hasn't got the money to complete her PhD, plus is no longer registered at the university.
@stephenford8775 Presumably, she started the treatment whilst still a registered student at Newcastle and had paid the £200 NHS surcharge all international students pay on arrival in the UK. I find it odd she did not make sure her PhD was funded by the university before turning up for her studies. So medical treatment is probably the main reason she enrolled on that PhD, to get her treatment on the NHS for only £200 instead of the thousands of pounds she would be billed as a visitor seeking medical treatment.
@@josephhall9307 £200 pound, she must be on dialysis to be on transplant list, it's very sad, to me she came here to get NHS treatment, knowing she had this problem before she came here.
Technically not being a UK resident, the Home Office could ask her to leave. She should go private. Start with the money that was refunded by the university and Luch Club can start a go fund me for her to pay her medical bills. These will convince the Home Office to let her remain in the UK.
Nice she fight to get her money back she has to start paying for her treatment cos she knows of her health before coming to UK hence she is no more in school 😊
Yes, she is in kidney failure, and hopefully on a kidney transplant list and currently receiving dialysis. University trod on her human rights. Great advice to make FORMAL complaint to ombudsman.
I think getting the money back from the university is a fair outcome. The university should have shown more compassion and given her more time when they found out she was ill. However, I understand the position of the home office. She could use the money she was refunded to pay for treatment in Nigeria. At the end of the day it's a slippery slope and the tax payer shouldn't be expected to pay for all people in her situation, particularly when they don't have legal status in the country. I think there is a case to be made if the person needs life saving treatment, as in there is a risk of immediate demise or if they were on say life support in ICU, that would not be fair to send them back to their home countries.
Good Afternoon Francis, she knew of her medical conditions with her kidneys. This medical condition does not happen overnight, there are signs and symptoms. However, she decided to use the tactics of PHD and this will awaken the schools to start requesting for a compressive medical health records. Everyone should endeavor to do a comprehensive blood work which includes the kidney and liver function test to understand the status of their health. I belive for the sake of humanity the home office should allow her to get the care she needs for recovery. I pray and wish her quick recovery so that she raise her daughter. Francis , point of correction it is not a right but a privilege that can be given in her circumstances.
She knew of her medical condition before she came. It seems that she attempted to game the system for free care. I am sympathetic to her situation as a human being, but she has no right as an international student to a transplant ahead of citizens or residents of the UK.
A "go fund me" is a great way to pay for the transplant, HOWEVER, that does not resolve the issue. Transplant patients have to take ALOT of antirejection medication, which is expensive and requires weekly bloodwork to monitor whether it is working. How will she manage that, while paying for the daily needs of food, shelter and medicines?
NHS is a climbing mountain home office will not allow. They refused my gran who lived here since 1998 july sadily died last year 21 April 2023.They have refused her asylum too.
@mosesturyahabwe6239 student for 10years then seeker asylum she was a tax payer b4 seeking asylum. Home office told her you can not stay here on basis of getting treatment from NHS they said your asylum was the last resort no way we are going to give you stay .reporting every month since 2011
In this country if you dont have a perment stay you have to pay for your medical even i comef you or going to univerc what so the home offices or wright. And she did knew that alredy becaus they must explain it to her before she
Sue needs to stay in the UK where she can live and contribute to UK. This is a human right. She needs to continue pursuing Home Office. Health is a human right. The woman is a human right. If Nigeria is anything like Belize, my country of origin, she will not be able to afford dialysis three times a week and her quality and length of life will be immensely shortened. On humanitarian grounds, she needs to stay. UK can consider it a small, very small down payment on having stolen the bodies, intellect and much more from my people.
It's highly unlikely that the home office will let her stay, the university would have made contact with the home office, even the present Labour government is more harsher than the conservatives. Im not sure about the go fund me thing, this might lead to bad publicity for her, imagine GB News getting hold of a story such as this. I wish the woman well, she is in a tight spot, however God works in mysterious ways, and things might work out well for her in the end
UK government is recovering Nigeria oil for next to nothing and by the way what is the use of common wealth between the two countries. What was given to Nigeria in compensation for colonization? This a greedy at all levels.off course, if the lady had pay all her comments at university she had the right for treatment.
Whilst I’m sympathetic to her issues, what she did is no different to scamming! She tricked the UK government in order to get here for free treatment to which she is not entitled. She wants to jump the queue over people living here legally and who have paid into the system for decades by way of National insurance and taxes. She has contributed nothing. The NHS is in a very bad way financially and these types of people who come in by the back door for free treatment only add to the pressure which they are facing.
U likely got it wrong, Sir. If the Home Office decision and the amount she got from the university is what u call "redress," it ain't enough. They are not stupid. Not being a permanent resident or citizen, the UK doesn't owe any obligation to treat immigrants without lawful status. She deliberately breached her student status, complained abt distress, and got 5000 pounds compensation. Sorry, the duty falls back on her to regularze her immigration status, and then treat herself. Surely, 5000 pounds won't redress her legal and health status. They are not stupid. She can't have it both ways. In the United States, we will say she's a public charge...now wanting the UK to finance her health costs. There are UK citizens also struggling with health challenges. Don't try to be too smart. Ask for genuine assistance. I had a similar situation as a student in a foreign country, and the school supported me beyond the usual procedure, even flew me to another country for specialty surgery. Let's be humble for Christ sake!
