Think your right about th Cormorants, trouble is the bird people cannot see an issue and they got the law on their side, in fact everyone else except anglers have this opinion, its only fish and because they live below the surface they are of no interest, good luck on the wye wish I could join you

Me & Mark Lynn had a week fishing the broads in a bungalow & we saw what we thought was another large flock of geese !!! But on closer inspection it was a huge flock of CORMARANTS !! Must have been 200 plus ...in the early 70s only remember one place that had a visit from a CORMARANT ,& the was Southery drain off the A10 !!

There must be potential to apply for lottery funding to have university research done on your local drains and effects of predation and licences granted by The EA to control cormorants etc. Various universities that do fishery management degree courses would welcome such research opportunities.

I’m sure there may be…however it is common sense to see just how many cormorants are not just on fen drains but all the other fisheries in the country.
The eat somewhere in the region if 2-2.5 lbs of fish a day.
They are not our indigenous cormorants either!!!
The issue is there is NO WAY the weak minded politicians will allow a bill to pass to allow mass culling of these invasive species….so the fish stocks are f***ed!!! It’s pitiful 🥹🥹

@FenlandFishingTV Back around 2010 / 2011 The Angling Trust employed three regional officers to liaise with fishery owners across England and Wales to help obtain licences to cull cormorants. The EA grants permits / licences to cull cormorants.
I mention lottery funding and university backed research with evidence based conclusions that would convince the authorities to allow culling. If there is satisfactory evidence, then culling should proceed.
In 1999 Samuel West (son of Timothy West and Prunella Scales) narrated a brilliant 4 part series on Britain's 4 seasons, in which Cormorant infestation at Walthamstow Reservoirs was highlighted. A major problem was the roots of large trees, hundreds of years old were being destroyed by the the toxicity of cormorant droppings. The diet of both salt and freshwater fish consumed by the cormorants was the 'root' cause of such damage.
EU fishing limits around Britain's coastline have historically contributed to cormorants migrating inland to find fish stocks.
The fens might also be suffering from otters. Again, in depth research, tagging etc might help manage otter related predation.
DeMontfert University in Leicestershire used to deal in fishery management courses as might other universities.
A suitably presented case for lottery funding could get the result you want.
