at one source i have read that it was in Aurangzeb's period that the total GDP of subcontinent was 1/4th of the entire world. and it makes sense, as Shah Jehan was spending all the wealth in constructing monuments (taj mehal etc) and peacock throne which was leading to the depletion of national treasure, how can they then the GDP during his reign be so much? whereas Aurangzeb was conquering new boundaries and improvising the rules and laws.
