Thanks! I'm glad someone finally understands! Good point about Shomen-Ate. It has been years since I've been in aikido so thanks for the correction.

Now that was funny! Aikido really does work well in football though, I'm not a pro but after spending my first few days in the dojo I literally saw immediate results, I had a little natural ability so I loved it from the start. I miss Aikido!

@brazilianspiritzz I know this is a bit late:
The ref is part of the playing field, so running into him is a legal action, however so is you being knocked on your tush by him. The collision was happening, the ref moved the players helmet way from hisown ribs, as he, as the ref, had no pads on.
Interestingly, it is legal, but tricksy, to use the ref as a 12th man, so to speak if you run behind him and let him block your opponents, lol.

Technically that would be Tai Chi ward-off.

@zacktillery Not sure if there is a single martial art in existence that is perfect. Perfection being the ability to efficiently dispatch one's opponent in any situation. This is because each martial arts system is based on some number of basic principles unique to that art. Mixed Martial Arts is the amalgamation of different systems and is therefore not to be compared with a single system, in my opinion.

What I see is the player faked it to the left, the ref moved the other way to give him space but then suddenly found himself in the way when the player changed direction... . Funny how even the ref plays the game, only he's trying to get out of the way rather than in the way...or not?

I don't know much about Football, but it's obvious that the ref purposely blocked him. Does this kinda thing happen a lot? or did he get punished after this action?
