      flip to the back of the book and start looking up the published data with them - it's really how you present it. I've worked with folks of all walks of life and I lived in the Central Valley myself for almost 10 years working with those same farmers and their kids, so I know exactly where you are. I served as a substitute teacher and then full time teacher in Madera & Fresno for years.

    This section of the course was the turning point for me, when I started to get my head around this concept, I went off and did Olivier Husson's Redox Potential Course as well, which is not for the faint hearted but once you get it, you can start applying that knowledge to everything in life, both in the soil, in the plants and in the body, and it explains so much of what we see in the world around us.

    Matt, Soil Redox is an important tool but you missed the elegant simplicity of a derivative of the Nerst Equation. I have made fertility recommendations on 1,000’s of soil samples that featured soil a version of the Clark/Nerst equation and it is very significant in many aspects of soil health. Great job bringing forth the importance of soil redox. -Jon Frank

    Awesome, set a course for Rhizobia Prime warp 9. Engage! Let the data mining begin, oh have you read the book, Healing is Voltage by Jerry Tennant? He claims, "We maintain our health and heal primarily by making new cells. To make a new cell requires a voltage of -50mV." It is the voltage required to turn raw materials into new cells and then I heard a story that lightning hitting a farmers land has great results when he plants his crops. I immediately fantasize about using a Tesla Coil in my indoor garden. haha

    Thanks Matt, that's another great snippet from the amazing complexities of soil. It helps the book come alive.
    As for soil experts to visit, I have been wondering about how the conversation would go between you and such people as Charles Walters of Acres USA or Neal Kinsey of Kinsey Ag. These and others with similar teachings were the ones I began learning soil science from over 20 years ago. I'm curious how they are responding to new advances in knowledge of things like rhizophagy and redox.

      ok dig on it - you do know that I was a professional bass player so that's the frequency I have most lost lol hahahahaha that and Shawn Pelton's high hat. He's a legend and still a good friend, and I played with him and toured with him for years. He hits so hard and I never wore earplugs because I was so nervous to mess up around him (he's played with Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, etc. he's been SNL's house drummer since the early 90s - his stories on tour were WILD!) but yeah so this is why my son can hear things I can't ;) too much loud music in my youth ;) I'll do a sub cut - there's actually an option on the mic for that too.

    Is it helpful to determine the redox of farmers' fields, as part of soil testing: considering that it is highly variable. A soils guy from Kenya. Much love.

    • @ThePermacultureStudent
      @ThePermacultureStudent  3 года назад +1

      Redox is difficult to test for even if you have the right equipment. There is an effort to make it so we can test the redox of plants with a handheld meter and smartphone app - this + more conventional soil testing together can give us a more accurate picture and we can reason things out using guides like my book Regenerative Soil, but it takes reflection, testing, and observation over time to figure some of the more difficult soils/deficiencies/etc. out.

  • @fayjason

    Can someone recommend a re-dox meter?

  • @JRileyStewart
    @JRileyStewart 2 года назад +2

    Hmmm. You said "eH is important, even though we can't measure it." Why can't we measure it? Doesn't it relate to EC (electrical conductivity)?

    • @ThePermacultureStudent
      @ThePermacultureStudent  2 года назад

      Excellent question - the reality is using pH and our soil tests, you can figure it out pretty easily. Right now they are developing a spectrometer to correlate it with Eh so we can test for it.

    • @ThePermacultureStudent
      @ThePermacultureStudent  2 года назад

      Have you ever had a pH level that SHOULD have meant certain toxicities and deficiencies but it was OFF? That's where EH comes in: the WHY behind it is there's an excess or lack of energy in the soil in that area.

    • @JRileyStewart
      @JRileyStewart 2 года назад

      @@ThePermacultureStudent I test for pH; always around 6.5-7.0 (it's a compost no-dig garden). Yet my garden (first season) suffers from slow growth of seedlings, small fruits, few fruits, and most plants getting eaten up with bugs & fungus. I'm kind of glad it worked out this way, because it stimulated me to find out "why" my garden doesn't look like Dowdings' and most others who practice no-dig. I've learned a lot, and suspect my problem is related to mineral imbalance. But back to eH, can't we assess soil eH by determining EC? How does Husson measure / determine eH?? I've asked the question over on Kempf's site, but haven't heard back.

      Hey Baba, I'm good friends with John and he sends me videos with his image in them to post or put up in conferences, so that's what he prefers and does with me through my channels and networks so I honor his wishes and his progression in life. I know that it used to be that we all hid his image and I used to do that too, but John can also grow and change as a person - we have to honor that too.
