Robin, many thanks for these videos. I've been using Affinity for a few years, mainly for basic edits and presentation. I've gone all the way back to basics and following you with the intention of improving my knowledge and skills with Affinity. Again, many thanks
Excellent wee course explaining the basics of AF. I've not used the software for a while, and needed a refresher to get back into the swing of things. I just can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Your walk through of the basics is very useful, particularly as you don't try to explain every tool and option available. Thank you for taking the time to share. 👍
Thank you and you're welcome. Did you manage to watch all of the lessons (there are 7)? I only mention it because some people haven't found them all. There is a set of links in the video description if you need to find others.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have been struggling with making sense of Affinity Photo. Your video points out clearly where the confusing parts are. It is easy to expect that adjustment layers, filters and live filters would work in similar manners. You show that they don't and that the user needs to expect the unexpected.:)
Good to hear you thought it was a detailed tutorial. It's difficult trying to cut the information back without losing the value. As for preparing half tones for screen printing, it's outside my area of knowledge. Sorry.
Hello Robin, these are wonderful videos, very quick and succinct, I will have to watch them quite a few times. I'm just wondering, I know editing a raw file in the develop persona is destructive but would you use the noise reduction in the details tab? It seems quite useful to me. If so, how would you use it?
How much noise reduction you need and wherebest to apply it will depend on the type of RAW file you are editing. Most will benefit from very light noise reduction in the Develop persona. I do prefer working in the Photo Persona where also have the ability to use masks with the filter to preserve the edges in an image.
Maybe something has changed in Affinity Photo since the video was published, but I don't get the behaviour you show for adding a live filter to an adjustment layer. Instead the live filter is put on top of the stack. I do have the adjustment layer selected when I add the live filter. I've gone over this a few times and cannot see what I'm doing wrong.
It's down to your Assistant Settings in Affinity Photo. Open your Presferrences and go to the Assistant section. There are a lot of options where you can set things like filters to be added as new layers or attached to the selected layer. I think the option you are looking for is called "Applying Filter Layers to Selection" and it's probably set to create a new layer. You might then need to restart Affinity but I can't remember.
Thanks @@RobinWhalley for the quick reply. I wasn't aware of the Assistant settings and changed it to "add filter based on selection". It still didn't work as in the video, but at least now I can tap and drag it to where I want it. So many switches and settings in this program!
These are BRILLIANT. By far the best I’ve come across.
Thank you very much.
All I can say is you’re an excellent teacher Robin. I learn something from every video.
Thank you. That's good to hear.
Many thanks, Robin! Beautiful capture by the way!
You're welcome and great to hear you like the image

Very detailed tutorial as always 💯… can you please explain how to create halftones for screen printing any photo in affinity photo?

@@RobinWhalley Thank you Robin, my raw files are .af, I use Olympus cameras. Sometimes I do just a little noise reduction in the Develop persona.
@@blaterpeake3421 That sounds perfect.
